"The strike comes in response to the deadly rocket firing toward Israel over the past 24 hours, which resulted in the death of a foreign national in Netiv Ha'asara earlier today," Israel Defense Forces said in a statement.
The statement was referring to a worker from Thailand who was killed when a rocket fired from Gaza landed inside southern Israel.
Five tunnels used for smuggling and terror activities and a weapons manufacturing site were the targets of the air strike, the IDF said.
"Direct hits were identified," the military statement said. However, no other details were provided on what was hit.

i see the terrorist apologists are on here again today. it scares me at what the liberals have done to this country. these palestinian nomads will never have a country as long as the government and its terrorist citizens continue to launch rockets and suicide bombers into israeli territory. their problem is that they want israel out of jerusalem and that is never going to happen. so the quicker they and the misguided liberals understand that, well maybe they will get a country...but i doubt it.
I undestnd the need to protect your land, that said, protect it from what? The gaza is a tightly controlled concentration camp that isreal has allowed the residents to reside in. no food in or out no travel in or out no aide in or out without the approval of isreal. the whole thing is disgusting. you have a group of people fighting a non-elected no representative oppressive foreign government to earn the freedoms that north americans have and yet due to anti-semitesimn fears no one says to isreal, enough! instead we allow these fighters for freedom to be villified and labelled as terrorists. Britain called the american fighters the same thing when they fought for independence from a less repressive regime and now the us sides with the repressive regime instead of helping the poor prisoners of gaza.
I know death has been caused by gaza strip inmates and by isreal blitzkreig air strikes last night but cant people see what is right in front of them, the isreal government is in the wrong here and need to be told by the international community to release the gaza strip people from oppressioin and allow them the freedom that they themselves afford all isrealis. stop being the nazis and strart being the responsible international partner that they should be.
What is gratter than the day of judgement when Isreal will stand victorious in the presence of the LORD OUR GOD do to Isreal standing fast in obediance to the word and the will of GOD. We got hit 9/11/2001 and are still hitting back. It should be no surprise that Israel hits back when fired upon. What really scares me, should Iran ever send a nuke to Israel, while never discussed, the hit back may well make the entire region unhabitable for a very long time.
Israel left an infrastructure rich territory when they pulled out of Gaza. So the people elected Hamas and focused all their energy on instigating their neighbor - not on building a fair and just society.
And, who has killed and maimed more Muslims in recent years? Israel? No. USA? No. Muslim terrorists? Yup. Muslim governments? It's funny how the middle east was quite stable well before the creation of Israel. Don't forget that everyone has their freedoms and will fight for them. This is just human nature. We have to work together and not seperate and listen to what our fellow beings have to say and respect how they would like to live their lives. Then if you understand, our social and global problems may creep closer to a solution.

I just love how everyone makes these comments towards the Palestinian, that their "savage"s, or" terrorist"., Palestiniasn are peaceful people, the only people on the face of the earth, who don't have a place to call thier own. The isreali's, have cut supplies in entering gaza, the unemployment rate for palestinian's are at a all time high, and everyday innocent palestinina's are dying..for being palestinians. This is not an arab Vs Isreali issue, it's a humanitarian issue. Isreali's have the most sophisticated technolgy for weapons, the palestinians have rocks...real fair, kinda like david and goliath??. Isreali's are not bad people, they are also peacefu people, who want to live side by side with the Palestinans. It is about time that Israel defend its people. If incessant rocket fire reigned from Canada into upstate New York, I'm sure the National Guard would retaliate with force. It's about time Hamas renounce terrorism and its role as an Iranian proxy and recognize Israel's right to exist. The Israeli government and people want a two state solution; now it's time for the Palestinians.
And, as one addition – these attacks were primarily at underground tunnels. We do the same thing here in the U.S. when we find drug smuggling tunnels from Mexico to America.
It's funny how ISRAEL's retaliation makes CNN's front page headlines. Where was the report of the terrorist rocket-firing yesterday? CNN is pathetic. They had to explain to their readers "oh yeah there was a terrorist attack yesterday but we're trying to cover for the terrorists so as to make the Jews look like the aggressors, so we're not reporting it". But as soon as Israel responds, CNN is right back at it! Good job, CNN! This is why I watch Fox.
