NOW 'incensed' over anti-abortion executive order

National Organization for Women President Terry O'Neill issued a statement Sunday afternoon slamming President Obama, saying that he had broken his faith with women by agreeing to issue an executive order that prohibits federal funding for abortions.

"The National Organization for Women is incensed that President Barack Obama agreed today to issue an executive order designed to appease a handful of anti-choice Democrats who have held up health care reform in an effort to restrict women's access to abortion. Through this order, the president has announced he will lend the weight of his office and the entire executive branch to the anti-abortion measures included in the Senate bill, which the House is now prepared to pass.

"President Obama campaigned as a pro-choice president, but his actions today suggest that his commitment to reproductive health care is shaky at best. Contrary to language in the draft of the executive order and repeated assertions in the news, the Hyde Amendment is not settled law - it is an illegitimate tack-on to an annual must-pass appropriations bill. NOW has a longstanding objection to Hyde and, in fact, was looking forward to working with this president and Congress to bring an end to these restrictions. We see now that we have our work cut out for us far beyond what we ever anticipated. The message we have received today is that it is acceptable to negotiate health care on the backs of women, and we couldn't disagree more."

I'm thankful that the President will not allow the government to pay for abortions. Now let's see if hie lives up to his word. NOW is incensed, but without good reason.

If you cannot commit to have a child and did nothing to protect yourself, then do not have sex.
If a woman has a child either care and love that child, or give it up for adoption.
    Do not kill.

This goes to show that the president will do ANYTHING to get what he wants.

We have returned to the dark ages. Europe laughs at the fact that we are still struggling with he abortion issue.

Our "change" is a step backward – not forward.

I'm always amazed at men having an opinion on abortion. Or specifically, telling women what they can and can't do with their own bodies. Abortion is a choice. If it's not yours, fine, but you can't possibly speak for everyone.

Without going into the rights and wrongs of abortion, NOW should accept that a significant portion of US Citizens/tax payers are against abortion and their views should be respected by ensuring that their tax dollars are not used in a manner that goeas against their moral and ethical beliefs.

It is unfortunate that such groups seem to forget their objectives somewhere along the way, it is NOWs right and prereogative to campaign for choice, but it is wrong to campaign to have that choice financed by the Government.

This is the FIRST time I've agreed with President Hussein Obama on anything! Finally, those of us who believe in a baby's right to breathe their first breath have gained a somewhat victory. I believe in a woman's right to chose but that choice ends at conception! Too long has our sinking Godless nation allowed the murder of innocent humans who have no voice. Any woman who has a baby inside of her and decides to murder it will be judged in the hereafter by God. No matter how the Pro-Death advocates try to smooth over the obvious, there is absolutely no avoiding the judgment when these women die and must stand face to face with God. Yes, God is a God of love, not hate, which is exactly why He will not tolerate the murder of his beautiful creations: these tiny babies who are killed each day in clinics around the US. Yes, there is a law made by mostly Democrats that allows this as so called 'legal' but guess what, it cannot be avoided when these women die and they have allowed the murder of these tiny babies. That is what gives me hope. While not in this life and this nation will these murders, doctors included who kill these innocents, but in the greater judgment it will happen. What about the cases of rape? Well, my daughter in law is a product of rape and thank God her mother believes in the life of a child. My daughter in law is a beautiful person who has given me my precious grandson. This would not even be possible had her mother believed the Pro-Death advocates and killed her in utero! What about the argument of the risk to the life of the mother? How foolish! Kill the baby so that the mother can spend the rest of her life in regret! No argument can justify this! Thank God President Hussein finally is being forced to give these babies life!

If federally funded really means tax payer funded then you people have you're nerve for sure. I do not think I should have to fund something that I do not agree with in total. If this means that tax payers will not have to support the objectives of NOW then I think President O made the right choice.

NOW you do not speak for me,,,,in fact, I think you barely speak for any women anymore. How dare you have so little regard for the sanctity of human life when half of those "abortions" are female. I don't "damn" women who have abortions, I feel sad for them that they believed that was their best option. I do not believe that most women use the procedure as birth control or take it lightly. Bless all those women that have had abortions and may they experience a healing from that unnatural and barbaric procedure. Abortion is an elective procedure, NOT health care.

If you don't believe in abortion, don't have one. Simple as that.

There are way too many people that shouldn't be parents that already are ... and no one but the children suffer. If an adult is intelligent enough to know that she is not ready for a child there should be no one who can tell her otherwise.

Our country would be much better served if people focused on raising the children that already exist. Feed them. Clothe them. LOVE THEM. Educate them. Keep them from living in poverty. Give them hope.

There is no excuse for a woman to get pregnant today. I don't want to hear the excuses. Pure laziness and stupidty on both parties (man and woman) allows this to happend. Grow up people and take responsiblity for your idiotic choices in life.

I am a woman, and I am pro-choice. Whether tax dollars should go toward abortions is a completely different issue. I can appreciate the controversy over government funding for abortions, and I think pro-choice organizations that dismiss concerns of a large segment of the population appear stupid, at best, and rabid left-wingers, at worst. These organizations will be viewed as crazy radicals in the same way that those on the fringes of the right are seen by reasonable citizens of all parties. Perhaps organizations like NOW and NARAL should shift their focus to encouraging their supporters to provide private funding for these services, rather than trying to convince the government to allow public funding.

ABORTION is not a medical problem its a choice. Its like choosing to shave your hair or not. simplistic but it is not a disease and should not be paid for by tax payers! Pay your own abortion! YOU spread YOUR legs and the guy dint protect himself, DEAL WITH IT! This is coming from me – a libertarian woman therefore definitely pro-choice. Honestly i don't see any other logical option here.

Note that rape, incest and health of mother reasons will still be funded just not the random 'I think i want an abortion' cases. LOVE YOU OBAMA!!

An executive order can NOT trump current law. This means Stupak sold his vote for nothing! He tossed his principals aside based on a worthless gesture. He, and many other dems, will pay the price come next November. Abortion will be government funded based on this new law. You people need to do what congress did not and read the bill.
