Nine suspected members of a militia group were charged Monday with seditious conspiracy and related charges, federal prosecutors said.
Six Michigan residents, two residents of Ohio and an Indiana resident were indicted by a federal grand jury in Detroit, Michigan, on charges of seditious conspiracy, attempted use of weapons of mass destruction, teaching the use of explosive materials and possessing a firearm during a crime of violence, U.S. Attorney Barbara L. McQuade and FBI Special Agent in Charge Andrew Arena announced.
The five-count indictment unsealed Monday charges that between August 2008 and the present, the defendants, acting as a Lenawee County, Michigan, militia group called the Hutaree, conspired to oppose by force the authority of the U.S. government.
The suspects were identified as David Brian Stone, 45; his wife, Tina Stone, 44; his son, Joshua Matthew Stone, 21, of Clayton, Michigan; and another son, David Brian StoneJr., 19, of Adrian, Michigan; Joshua Clough, 28, of Blissfield, Michigan; Michael Meeks, 40, of Manchester, Michigan; Thomas Piatek, 46, of Whiting, Indiana; Kristopher Sickles, 27, of Sandusky, Ohio; and Jacob Ward, 33, of Huron, Ohio.
Eight of the nine defendants are in custody and seven of them will make their initial appearance before U.S.Magistrate Judge Donald A. Scheer on Monday morning, prosecutors said. Joshua Stone is a fugitive, according to prosecutors.

No Government is perfect including ours (U.S.). As a retired professional soldier living outside of the U.S., I assure you that the world is watching us 24/7. The majority are wondering what sick group of militants would even think of waging war against one of the best governments in this world. Living behind the white picket fence for generations in peace has caused many a good American to become competely indifferent to and ignorant of this world around us. If one feels that he or she cannot tolerate living in our land any longer, then they should pack their bags and move to North Korea or Cuba among others and then try and spread thier treacherous militant BS in these other lands. I for one am proud to tell the world that I am an American. And, I like millions of others will not let our nation fall. Although our nation is not perfect, it is by far the better of many many evils.

Most of them are unemployed, reaping governement benefits, which is interesting that they are trying to "overthrow" the very hand that feeds them – literally! davonskevort – The purpose of the 2nd amendment isn't to allow people to rise up against the government to overthrow it. Here is some specific verbiage penned by the Pennsylvania legislature when the Bill of Rights was ratified:
"That the people have a right to bear arms for the defence of themselves and their own state, or the United States, or for the purpose of killing game; and no law shall be passed for disarming the people or any of them, unless for crimes committed, or real danger of public injury from individuals; and as standing armies in the time of peace are dangerous to liberty, they ought not to be kept up: and that the military shall be kept under strict subordination to and be governed by the civil powers."
It's made pretty clear there that the purpose of the amendment is to allow people to protect themselves, their state and their country from attack or to hunt game so they can eat.
These clowns are no different than the Klu Klux Klan during the early part of the twentieth century. If they want a real enemy they should take their tired buts to Iraq or Afghanistan and face a real enemy to our country. These splinter groups of budding terrorists must be snuffed out as soon as possible so we can get on with the business of restoring our country to the level of leadership and innovation that the world used to view us as.
