Former White House Chief of Staff Karl Rove was heckled and branded a 'war criminal' at a book signing in Beverly Hills, California, Monday night.
Rove, who served as senior advisor and deputy chief of staff to former President George W. Bush, was at the Saban Theater to discuss his new book, "Courage and Consequences: My Life as a Conservative in the Fight," to an audience of about 100 people who paid up to $40 to hear him.
But the audience members were unable to get their copies of the book signed after Rove was shouted down and forced to leave the stage, reported CNN affiliate KCAL-TV.
The event was heated from the onset as several anti-war protesters interrupted Rove's talk to accuse him and his administration of lying to Americans about the threat Iraq posed to the United States - and thus, taking the country into war.
Rove called one heckler a "lunatic." He told another to "get the heck out here."
At one point, Jodie Evans, the co-founder of the anti-war group Code Pink, rushed toward Rove waving a pair of handcuffs - saying she was there to make a citizen's arrest.
"Look what you did ... you lied to take us to war. You ruined a country. You totally ruined a country," she shouted.
As organizers tried to keep Evans at bay, another woman stood up and yelled, "The only comfort I take is that you're going to rot in hell."
Rove, who defended his administration's stance on several controversial issues in heated exchanges with other critics, said the interruptions reflected the "totalitarianism of the left."
#1 Comment. Just because the event was in Beverly Hills and the people that attended said event in Beverly Hills doesn't mean the people "throwing Stones" live in Beverly Hills. Good for Code Pink calling this traitor on his lies. They paid the $40.00 to get in, they can heckle.
Meanwhile the Tea Baggers aka "The Waterlosers still can't come to grips with the fact that the $20 they paid Glen Beck for the .25 cent Bumper Sticker he sent back in return has not "repealed" the law of the land and irreversible healthcare bill that (eventual 2 term) PRESIDENT Obama has passed.
There is still a thing called character, and Karl Rove does not have any. Neither did Cheney or Feith, Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz. And neither did their sleazeball friends, Chalabi and Pearl. Bush was out to lunch.
Why don't all you left wing dorks look back and see how many Dem.'s voted to give GWB the vote for use of force in Iraq. They all had the same info he did and believed Sadam had wmd's. They also believed it would be a cake walk in Iraq and they all wanted a piece of the glory. Then the war got tough and they all bailed and said they were lied to, what a bunch of scumbags......
Rove is the lowest form of life.
and so what where the hecklers live?: be it Beverly Hills or the Bronx.
Karl Rove is a heartless war monger who deserves all he gets.
Seen from this side of the Atlantic Ocean, it seems to be rather unbalanced, when the liberals and left side is accused of hate and totarialismen for protesting against Carl Rove and US warcrimes, while at the same time armed groups of private millitant vigilantes are threatening the Presidet and police force to take their lives. It is way out of proportions.
John Borup, Denmark
Joe McGary is right. The Democrats and everyone else had the same info Bush and Rove had about Sadam having wmd's. So why are only Bush and Rove war criminals? Liberals are so brainwashed, they believe any spin that is fed to them by the liberal media.
I am happy the far left are able to take advantage of our Free Speech Amendment.
I was allways given the impression that all US citizens have the God given right to free expression.
Ammendments 3, 4, 5, 10 have recently been eroded. This will effect everyone left and right and all in between.
Another attempt to rewrite history. But facts are a little too tough to disparage. They make the disparager the oaf.
Isn't it strange most of those that advocated for an unnecessary war were people who never served on active duty. Bush, Cheney, Wolfnowitz, Feith, McConnell, Boehner, Limbaugh, Delay, Hasert and a host of other chickenhawks, many of whom ducked serving in their generation's war. I think we ought adopt a Civil War policy. That is that those who ducked serving their country pay those that served in their place.
You are right, but those who lied and knew about it, are those people talk about here, politicians are scumbags, all of them, but some of absolutely disgusting like Carl Rove, Douglas Feith, and many other so called intellectuals from Bush administration.
George P. Hebert.
Is that the collective "our" in your statement, " I am happy the far left are able to take advantage of our Free Speech Amendment." Or is it that you are allowing us to use YOUR FREE SPEECH AMENDMENT?
By the way what type of speech is it when someone cuts someone else's propane lines?
And tell me George what type of free speech was it when the teabaggers went to townhall meetings asked a question and then shouted down the person trying to answer that question. It seems some people know little or nothing about free speech or for that matter anything else.
It seems to me that both the Bush and Obama administrations are wrong. Both tried to govern from the extreme sides rather than the middle where most of America is living. Hey the left has some good ideas so does the right. Yet though both have some really bad ideas also. What happened to governing for the people? It seems now people govern for the party, sad really.
We held a very successful protest against Karl Rove Wednesday at his La Jolla book signing! The book store reported that they sold less than a hundred books. We enjoyed solid and spirited support also from passer-bys on foot and in vehicles! Prosecute Rove!
I see you are still a worthless bum.
Bush, Rove, Cheney, and the rest of the profiteers knew there were no WMD's in Iraq but rushed us into that war anyway. Most of the people who voted for this war were lied to by this group of traitors. Sorry Joe McGary, nice try but the lies leading up to the Iraq war is yet another sad chapter in the Bush debacle also known as his presidency.
I'm glad eventual 2 term PRESIDENT Obama is here to clean up the Bush/GOP mess they put this country in.
