Navy: Photo shows warship destroying pirate mother skiff

The USS Farragut, a guided missile destroyer passes the skiff it destroyed after pirates tried to attack a Sierra Leone-flagged tanker .

New photos released Friday show what the U.S. Navy says is the aftermath of suspected pirates attacking a Sierra Leone-flagged tanker this week in the Somali Basin.

The confrontation between the MV Evita and two suspected pirate skiffs was disrupted by the U.S. Navy destroyer, USS Farragut, according to the U.S Navy. The suspected bandits’ “mother skiff” was destroyed and sunk.

“The pirates have become bolder and are attacking ships further away from the Somali shores,” said Rear Adm. Bernard Miranda of the Singapore navy.

The Evita fired flares and sped up to ward off the attackers, who were armed with rifles and rocket-propelled grenades.

Coalition forces were summoned by the International Maritime Bureau in Kuala Lumpur and the UK Maritime Trade Operations office in Dubai, who received a call of aid from the Evita.

The Evita was also assisted by a Swedish vessel, which located the suspected pirates’ skiffs and witnessed them throwing equipment overboard.

Farragut coalition forces found 11 suspected pirates aboard the skiffs, along with fuel drums and grappling hooks.

Coalition forces released the suspected pirates after making sure they couldn’t attack again.

This is madness. By releasing the pirates, the west is encouraging piracy. The US navy should just blow the pirate ship together with the pirates and left them as feeds for the sharks.

They should of captured it and investigated the ship and looked for intel, instead of engaging in violence. Maybe they would of found a map that had the location of a treasure chest full of gold.

The best solution to this problem is drones. They can cover many miles in a short period of time. Identify the pirates launch a missile and problem solved. I would save so much money, and you could get shipping lines to chip in on the expense.

We shouldn't be as barbaric as them. But with that being said, In stead of these ships
paying such high insurance rates for all the losses. Have them (ship owners) pay for armed troops and navy back up. The navy always want training, put it to good use.
The pirates all or most dieing, and no profit will bring it to a stop very fast.

Since the US Navy has no stomach for this, call in the Russians and they will finish the job for them. They will make sure the pirates will be on board when they do this, while US sailors sleep well in their beds that same night and not take blame for any of this...!!
