GM to add 1,600 jobs

General Motors will announce Tuesday that it will add 1,600 jobs as part of a $890 million upgrade of five plants in North America, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The automaker will invest $658 million to overhaul plants in Michigan, New York, Ohio and Indiana. It will also invest $235 million to upgrade a facility in Canada.

GM is upgrading the plants to manufacture a next-generation engine for full-size pickups. The automaker will officially unveil the plan and provide additional details later Tuesday.

GM can say whatever it wants but awarding business to companies like http://yhtec.com (who have ZERO U.S. presence). We have companies like Delphi, Lear or Yazaki North America who for 10 cents more (guesstimation) will be willing to keep some if not all those jobs/dollars stateside where its needed.
