At least 15 people killed in Ciudad Juarez

[Updated at 7:17 p.m.]  At least 15 people were killed in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, Wednesday, as drug-related violence goes unabated, authorities said.

Police found seven young men killed in two locations in Juarez, police spokesman Jacinto Seguro told CNN.

Earlier Wednesday, eight men were shot to death outside a bar in what has become one of the country's deadliest cities, the state attorney general's office said.

It was the second violent day in a row that the city witnessed.

On Tuesday, 10 people were killed, Seguro said, including three who were shot outside a supermarket. Another victim, identified as Marin Orosco, was killed outside a mall hours later.

In all, 25 people were killed in a 24-hour period, Seguro said.

Ciudad Juarez is the most violent city in the nation, with more than 2,600 drug-related deaths in 2009. No official numbers are available for this year, but more than 400 killings have been reported by local media.

The city, long the focal point of President Felipe Calderon's battle against drug cartels, came to renewed prominence after the January 31 killings of 15 people, most of them students with no links to organized crime. The massacre sparked outrage throughout Mexico and drew worldwide attention.

In another incident that drew widespread attention, three people associated with the U.S. Consulate in Juarez were gunned down in two shootings last month. Two of the victims, including a pregnant woman, were U.S. citizens living in El Paso, Texas.

Arrests were made this week in the recent killings of federal police officers in Juarez, Seguro said. The suspects, members of the Juarez cartel, deny they were involved in the killings, he said.

[Posted at 3:04 p.m.] Eight men were shot to death early Wednesday morning outside a bar in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, one of the country's deadliest cities, the state attorney general's office said.

The victims, who remained unidentified, were shot outside the Aristos night club about 4:35 a.m., office spokesman Vladimir Tuexi told CNN.

Authorities recovered 12 shell casings at the scene, all 9 mm, he said.

Police were looking for a motive.

According to Chihuahua state police, the victims all had gunshot wounds to the head. Four of the victims were teenagers, three were in their early to mid-20s. The eighth man was about 40 years old, police said.

Stef, so to you and your 3rd world mentality, just saying end the demand for drugs will make it happen? I can see how I should take your post seriously now, you must be a genie! Would you mind using all that logic and poof some more solutions just by speaking? Have you been to Iraq or Afghanistan? I have, twice now, if you had been there, and didn't just get your news from the TV, you would see most people in those nations are grateful for what we've done, should we still be there, that is a subject of great debate, but since you know nothing of how those people feel, maybe you should poof yourself over and proclaim world peace.

3rd world mentality? is that even suppose to mean something?
And yes, i literately mean that we should say outloud the words "end demand of drugs" and it will happen, and all the worlds problems will end, its EXACTLY what i mean. (sarcasm). Taking my words out of context doesn't make you right.

You or I being to Iraq and Afghanistan has NOTHING to do with ANYTHING. As with most of what you've said, its completely irrelevant. It does not give your pointless and groundless accusations or arguments any more credibility.

Anyway, illegal immigrants and drug cartels are two different issues. The violence of the drug cartels that is devastating mexico is spilling over to the US because thats where their market is.

I do work for it as civilian and do not need to specify where, if you believe it or not, that is your problem not mine. I think you are right that profiling is a must.....does Oklahoma city bombing sounds familiar?? Was a latino or black, or chinese or from middle eat who planted the bomb??? Timothy McVeigh was .........yeah,...you are right , he was an BROWN illegfal Mexican who crossed the border to commit a crime here in the US...RIGHT?

REALLY YOU ARE NOT MAKING SENSE, TIMOTHY MCVAY WAS WHITE, SO WHAT IS YOUR POINT, WE KNOW THAT HE BOMBED A BUILDING, I GUESS THAT EVERYTIME I HEAR ABOUT A HOUSE INVASION RAPE, I WILL ASSUME IT IS A MEXICAN SINCE THE NIGHT STALKER WAS MEXICAN. THE TERRORIST OF TODAY ARE PROUD AND WANT TO BE KNOWN WHO THEY ARE, SO IT MAKES IT VERY CLEAR THAT WE MUST DO SOME PROFILING. I GUESS THE SNIPER IN DC IS ANOTHER EXAMPLE, EVERYTIME SOMEONE IS SHOT FROM A FAR WE SHOULD GO AFTER BLACKS, OH WAIT NO ONE WANTED TO BELIEVE HE WAS BLACK, BUT REALITY IS THAT IF WITNESSES OR SOME OTHER TYPE OF EVIDENCE OF A CRIME OF STRING OF CRIMES OR MURDERS IS HAPPENING AND WE REFUSE TO PROFILE THEM RACIALLY EVEN WITH WITNESS OR OTHER INFORMATION THEN WE ARE STUPID. THE SITUATION AT THE BORDERS IS MEXICAN DRUG CARTELS KILLING AMERICANS SO GUESS WHAT, WE HAVE THE INFO, WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT, GET THEM OUT OF HERE, THEN WE CAN GO ON WITH LIFE.

I live in El Paso, which is the city right next to Cuidad Juarez, but we feel very safe living in El Paso. The people trying to come across are mainly individuals trying desperately to get out of a country that does not provide for them and the drug violence. In El Paso the number of murders in 2009 was under 20 compared to many cities around the country with over 700,000 that is exceptional. It is extremely sad to see and hear about the violence across the border, I can't imagine going over anymore. I used to go several times a month to shop and eat, it was something we never thought about. Now I risk are to great. It's amazing how much control the cartels have over a community and country. But we also have to realize that this would not be the case if we were not buying what they are selling!!

OK, seriously you're whining that Az cops should have the right to ask papers from anyone who looks Hispanic? These are the same people who called Obama a socialsit, facist, etc. During WWII Jews were asked the same thing from real fascists, so think again who the real facists are you damn rednecks. Go chew on some tobacco and die already. I can't wait for your ignorant generation to die off so our society can finally advance.

  8. The Truth

The Truth is that none of you are from the area. All you do is assume and see the world through your hate filled UN-AMERICAN eyes. You don't know both sides of the issue. Do you know any of the history behind the America at all. If you did then you know that the ties between these two countries is crucial to the survival of the United States. There needs to be a unity between America and Mexico to root out all these problems we have in both our countries. What really gets to me is how the postings say the law is not racist but they are the same people who call the roaches in our cities.

Funny – a lot of you posted to stay away from bordertowns. I happen to live in one and it's actually considered the second safest city in the U.S. TOMA!

Hey Kyle, I have never tried an illegal drug simply because I have a fear of not being in control. With that said, I am a CA resident and will definitely be voting for Marijuana legalization, simply because we could use the tax revenue and because it would kill of the black market. Most of the policemen here also support it because it means they can focus on REAL crimes and not make petty arrests for someone lighting up. So so much for your thought that none-stoners will all vote against the passage. (Of course, your ignorant rebuttal will be something along the lines of.. "you must be a closet stoner, you druggie!")

The only reason there are all those killings in Mexico is all related to drugs. If Americans didnt demand marijuana, cocaine and all those other substances people from other countries wouldnt export the drugs and therefore there would not be territorial issues in those countries. So once the U.S people stop demanding drugs for their use drug cartels might actually dissappear. People in america always criticize other countries but dont look at their own faults.

    YES! I agree.

and to all the stoners out there who believe legalizing drugs will end the terrible violence and deaths, i'll assume you are using drugs already... doesn't it bother you how you are so closely involved in these mass killings, this violence? How do you get around that? Or are you so high you dont even care for the blood on your hands?

Thats great they want a better life, but not at my expense. If I wanted to live in a Socialist country Id move to one. Keep your spread the wealth around ideals to yourself and unless YOU have something more intelligent to say other than "Shut the hec up", im gonna assume your living off the system as well.

@ jason: You're right. I don't care if "innocent" people are being sent to jail. I'd rather have a bunch of people that don't even live in the U.S. shot up and have millions of stoners in jail than have millions more stoners free in the streets polluting society. You are a prime example of why non-stoners don't take you seriously and why we think you should all be shot.

This is a joke. Nobody is this stupid to post everything you are doing. You are obviously just trying to push buttons to get replies. That, or you are a pyschopath.

Damn. Both Steve Jobs and Bill Gates smoked weed and did LSD. Too bad they didn't get picked up off the streets.

If everyone sat back and looked at the big picture they would see the greater impact this bill will do. Its simple math if you take IDK 20,000 illegals and those 20,000 paid 10,000 a year in taxes...because they do pay taxes. Every food, clothes car every and anything has a tax on it how much money would the AZ lose. How much will the business lose. people being laid off because there isnt enough business. Not to mention all of the kids left behind who are citizens but their parents arent...those kids will grow up in poverty, gangs, so on. I agree that the border has to be controled and drugs have to stop. But it doesnt change the fact that even though they use the word IMMIGRANTS no one seems to say if the bill will go for all other ethnic groups, how do I know if a black kid is from here or Africa, White guy not from Irland or Europe, How do I know that Asian woman is here legaly...are the cops going to stop every single ethnic looking person they come in contact with...because the bill does state it is a requirment to ask for documents when they come into contact with someone they think maybe here illegal....

Stef. Stef. Stef. Are you serious? People were smoking pot long before it was illegal. It's the illegality and the black market it creates that does the harm, not the drugs. You're assumin everybody who smokes weed gets it from drug cartels. Weed grows easily. I don't smoke, but I know people who do, and they get it from a local grower. No blood. No harm. Only relaxed individuals doing something less harmful than eating cheeseburgers, drinking soda, or drinking wine.
