Tea Partiers to illegal immigrants: 'Sign guestbook'

Lee Earle, left, and Ronald Ludders of Phoenix support Arizona's new immigration law.

Lee Earle, a self-identified “Tea Party facilitator” in Arizona, ground zero of the immigration debate, wants you to know that he supports immigration. He considers it the lifeblood of American society and the backbone of our economy – if it’s done legally.

“We want immigration. We need immigration! All we want is for people to sign the guestbook at the door,” said Earle, a Phoenix resident. “Being an illegal immigrant in Arizona is like trespassing. If you’re in my house and you’re not invited, then I have every right to send you out.”

Earle says he supports Arizona’s controversial new law targeting illegal immigration because it lets local law enforcement do what the federal government should be doing to stop people from entering the country unlawfully.

“When people come here without permission, when they come here illegally, they automatically become victims of the coyotes who bring them over and the employers who take advantage of their cheap labor,” Earle said. “Let them come legally so they can take advantage of all the wonderful services and opportunities this great nation has to offer and they can contribute in a meaningful way.”

Earle, a loquacious retiree who gesticulates frequently as he fires off in a stream-of-consciousness manner, shared his thoughts Tuesday night before a legislative district meeting at the Jumbo Buffet in a strip mall in southwest Phoenix.

Dressed in a Hawaiian shirt and jeans, his long gray hair pulled back, Earle said he blames health care, education and incarceration for illegal immigrants for contributing to the state’s $2 billion budget deficit.

“It’s a monetary thing for the state, because I’m a taxpayer but also a human concerned because they can’t take advantage of our legal system because they’re afraid of being deported,” he said.

Earle’s friend and fellow Tea Partier Ronald Ludders dismissed with a wave of the hand the suggestion that the bill encourages racial profiling.

“Illegal is not a race," said Ludders, who, like Earle, is a Republican precinct committeeman for his legislative district. “Law enforcement will be looking for people who they have reasonable suspicion to believe are breaking the law. They cannot stop them based on the color of their skin.”

Both men say this is not about hating Hispanics: Ludders has a home in Mexico, and Earle lives in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood.

“This is about fixing a problem that has been plaguing our communities for a long time. If the federal government isn’t going to do anything, I’m proud of Arizona for stepping up to the plate,” Earle said.

Moose you are extremely ignorant.. i happen to know people who come here for a better life. not to take jobs or mess up this already messed up country. All everyone does is complain about things not being good enough for you. You are being selfish and greedy. Most illegals can not even get into college. So really they take good jobs? The people who can go should and get a "good job" but wait you are to stupid to do it. I thinkt if all these lazy people would get up and instead of sitting waiting on on the government to give them money there wouldn't be jobs for mexicans to take. So do them all a favor all you who hate this so much. DON'T eat mexican food or buy anything mexio makes. oh and DON'T eat anything Asians make either. If it's not made in america like your fatty foods DON'T use it! How is that. And DON'T bother leaving the country you love so much because they WON'T want you there just like you don't want them here they DO not want you there. What a racist country!

What papers are immigrants required to carry? Does this mean that all U.S. citizens would be required to carry around their passport or birth certificate? Many illegals get drivers licenses...so that's not enough. How many citizens would feel comfortable carrying around sensitive documents like their birth certificate everywhere they go? If we didn't, even citizens would risk being arrested for lack of "documentation". I guess some of you don't fear that because you know ultimately police will only question Hispanics...which is racial profiling. Let’s call it what it is and stop lying to ourselves.

That's exactly right. If we were talking about New Jersey, Illegal is definitely not a race. In Arizona, Illegal will officially mean brown-skinned and/or latin-named. Shame on you.

To all of you people citing that the native americans were here first and we're all illegal immigrants...let's take that a step further. Humans were not the first species on the plant and thus our entire race is illegal. We should all kill ourselves! Morons.

The depths of White America's immorality amazes me. Next thing you know immigrants will have to wear a special sign like...hmmmm...maybe a star on their arm or something. Then before you know it, so many "illegals" will be rounded up and before you know it we'll need camps. I think I've seen this film before and I know how it ends. Been there, done that, and don't want to do it again.

@JULIA, IF YOU HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE THEN YOU SHOULDN'T BE UPSET. PEOPLE LIKE YOU AND THE OTHERS HERE WHO CRY OF RACISM USES THIS LAW TO GET THEIR WAY. I MYSELF AM AN ASIAN AND MIGRATED HERE IN THE U.S. LEGALLY. I DON'T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS COPS STOPPING ME AND CHECKING MY ID. TO EVERY LAW THERE IS ALWAYS A LOOP HOLE AND THAT WILL ALWAYS BE INEVITABLE. THERE IS NO PERFECT LAW. THOSE PEOPLE WHO THINKS THAT IS LAW WILL PROMOTE RACISM ARE RACIST THEMSELVES. OUR LAW ENFORCERS WILL NEED TO BE TRAINED WILL IN ORDER FOR THIS WORK I AGREE. A WHOLE LOT OF PATIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING WILL BE REQUIRED TO THESE PEOPLE.

Why is it that everyone is talking about Mexicans? Are you people fixed on race? What about illegal Canadians? Yes, that's right folks, illegals are white too so I am no racist when I say find all illegals (black, brown, yellow, red, white, tie-dye, etc.) by asking anyone to prove their citizenship ad then sending the criminals back to their respective countries. These idiots who use the race card are the biggest racists around since they cannot seem to take race out of any conversation.

I HOPE ARIZONA KEEPS IT UP. FEDERAL GOVT JUST KEEPS GIVING ILLEGALS A HAND OUT, THEY GET MORE BENEFITS THAN PEOPLE THAT ARE CITIZENS. MORE BREAKS, ETC..... THEY HAVEN'T EARNED A SINGLE PENNY IN SOC SEC, MEDICAL BENEFITS, ETC... BUT THEY CAN GET THEM. IF THEY DON'T LIKE TO LIVE BY THE RULES OF AMERICA, GO HOME AND STAY THERE. THE ORIGINAL IMMIGRANTS THAT CAME TO AMERICA, LEARNED ENGLISH, THAT'S THE LANGUAGE OF THIS COUNTRY, LEARN IT OR GO HOME. I RESENT HAVING TO PUSH 1 FOR ENGLISH.

Louis how about cutting and pasting the whole quote instead of cherry picking what sounds good to your weak and pedestrian argument. To compare the extermination of a people to sending an illegal immigrant back to Mexico is beyond moronic. There IS no similarity and stop your propagandist rhetoric that it is.

There is now a world movement from various countries, as a result of reciprocity, mutual and equal principle from the new Arizona law, which in fact will put in to law, where all AMERICANS when traveling abroad must carry their visas, passports and immigration documents with them at all times while visiting their country. Thus, any police officer in that foreign country, no matter whether he/she is legitimate, CORRUPT or UNTRAINED, will have the right to demand the American to present their documents. If in fact that police officer deems the American is in the country illegally, even if he or she is or is not illegal, that AMERICAN will be ARRESTED and spend time in a FOREIGN jail until the proper national immigration authorities can resolve the matter. Given that most countries are not as efficient as others, most AMERICANS that would be sent to the local jail may spend quite some time imprisoned, even if they are in the country legitimately. Furthermore, any corrupt police officer would be tempted and enticed to harass AMERICANS traveling abroad, as the officers and their co-workers would be looking for bribes. Also, please keep in mind the danger of theft or loss of your legal documents as they would need to be with you at ALL TIMES. Thus, this is a very stupid law.

A little Caucasian girl (about 5'1") was stopped at a border patrol checkpoint when leaving Kitt Peak Observatory and was told that a california driver's license was not sufficient identification and if the patroller wanted he could arrest her on the spot. He suggested that even she should start carrying her passport to make sure.

So how does that sound for "should only affect illegals" huh?

I may have been a little hard on the millions of people who come here in search of a better life but the real questions is this UN-constitutional?

Under the Naturalization process “how much has the illegal completed"? Years of setting up shop in America and still can't/won't learn English.
Are they really supporting America while waving Mexican flags?
Are they here against their will or trapped (i.e. Slavery)?
Is it a crime specific to Hispanics (i.e. racial)?
Those who hire and provide shelter for the illegal are considered to be aiding and abetting the criminal, true or false under the law?
Most important question we must all ask.... In the constitution it states "All men are created equal" was this statement for the illegal or the legal immigrates?
How does an illegal have constitutional rights when they’re not citizens? Humanitarian sympathy sure but not rights and please don't play the "the end justify the means" card. Now that I broke into your home and did very little damage – it's ok to stay in the spare room, right?

    The illegal immigrate is free!
Free to roam America without any accountability (Al Sharpton, please go home! You have lost touch with the term "freedom").

They can leave America tonight the same way they came...

Asian folks, Canadian, Middle-Eastern, Russian, Haitian, Cuban, and many others are here illegally and legally. What say you to those who have proudly earned their citizenship?

STOP...STOP with the refried beans and Nazi symbols!!!
