Immigration protest set for Cubs-Diamondbacks game

The fierce debate over a new Arizona immigration law has spread to America's pastime as protesters plan to demonstrate against the city's baseball team on Thursday.

The protest will occur outside Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois, where the Arizona Diamondbacks will start a four-game series against the Chicago Cubs.

"America's favorite pastime will be hit with a reality check," the protest's organizers wrote on a Facebook page set up to publicize their rally. "Bring signs and banners to the protest."

By early Thursday morning, the Facebook group had more than 800 members.

The new Arizona law requires police to check whether a person is in the United States legally if there is a reason to suspect he or she isn't.

Critics say the law could foster racial profiling.

Along with the protest at Wrigley Field, the group said it is planning a protest march for May 1.

It is sad that all of you whining about illegals are all descendants of illegals. We tell the world that "WE" are the best and that anyone, well almost anyone can achieve their dreams here, but those freedoms and happinesses are only for the chosen few lucky enough to be born here. Or pay the price of entry. I am here of immigrant stock and I bet most of you low IQ's are too. With the exception of those we brought here on slave boats or those few who's ancestors actually were here before Jamestown. You all make me sick, I can't think of a better word. You selfish pieces of s... wait my immigrant grandmother taught me not to say bad things about others.

If the natives of America as we told them what it was called would have treated our ancestors as we now treat the rest of this world... we would still be in europe waiting for the next war of dominance to occur by other morons we believe to be civilized.

May God have mercy on your soul when he asks you how you treated his children.

What are you blabbing about, you can come to this great country from foreign lands and become a citizen LEGALLY, the problem is that there are people who by the very act of being here are breaking the law because they haven't gone through the proper channels- that's why we call them ILLEGALS

What am I blabbing about? Work on you IQ some and read what I typed again, but do it real s l o w, so you allow the w o r d s to have meaning, But, you are exactly my point and may GOD have mercy on your soul and let's hope he really does forgive.

I think the point is being entirely missed here. Regardless of where you fall on the amount of leniency you feel should be provided for illegal immigrants, what his law does is encourage discrimination, plain and simple. No one can clearly articulate how a officer of the law can fairly determine what is meant by "reasonable suspicion" without first considering race. I don't think anyone, when they read news of this law, first pictured a person of European descent or Asian descent being dragged in for questioning in Arizona, so how do we expect law enforcement, as well meaning as they could possibly be, to behave better than the rest of us.

Hey Pete, God also said this:1 Peter 2: 13 Therefore submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake, whether to the king as supreme, 14 or to governors, as to those who are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and for the praise of those who do good.

As a matter of fact, according to the new Arizona law, police indeed can stop someone who has not broken any laws. All the officer needs is some reasonable suspicion that the person might be an illegal immigrant.

William: We are not against IMMIGRATION. We are AGAINGST ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION! I know that all the whiny babies on here are only good for emotional exploits and not for real debate. Read the law, http://www.azleg.gov/legtext/49leg/2r/bills/sb1070s.pdf A license is sufficient.

The only time you have to sweat is if you are committing a crime (i.g. Running a red light, running a stop sign, leaving a grow house, stabbing someone, etc.) and happen to be here illegally.

So, William (or should I say Guillermo), perhaps you should start sweating NOW!

#131, a Mexican/American according to him, says it is not right that he should ahve to walk around carrying ID. He says there is no black and white solution. Yes, #131, there is a black and white solution. If you are illegal you need to be sent back to Mexico and we need to begin shooting anyone attempting to illegally ener our country. There, black and white!

My husband came here from India and was able to get his citizenship 2 years ago. The process took 6 years. He looks so much Hispanic that Latino people speak to him in Spanish thinking he is one onf them. He SUPPORTS the new law in Arizona 100%. He has no problem being asked to show his ID and prove he is a citizen. He's extremely proud to be one! The illegal alien problem is not just in Arizona. It is horrible here in the Washington Metro area. Maryland and Virginia are overrun with illegal aliens. Our ER's are swamped. Our taxes are used to pay for special teachers that speak Spanish and teach English to the illegal's children so they can get an education. The parents don't even bother to learn English themselves. If you apply for a job, the person who speaks English AND Spanish is the one that gets it even if you are more qualified to actually do the work. Loudon County Virginia cracked down on illegals and got rid of alot of problems. Maryland and Virginia need to enact laws similar to Arizona before it's too late here. If all the states don't do the same and our Federal government doesn't start enforcing our laws we will soon all be forced to learn Spanish!

Maybe those people in Chicago should go live in West Phoenix for a week and see if they still support illegal immigration. People that aren't from Arizona have no business commenting on this issue.

Clearly CNN needs to redo the article to ensure fairness. My rewrite is below.

Pro-Illegal Alien Group Plans Protest at Ballgame

The fierce debate over a new Arizona law to control illegal immigration has spread to America's pastime as protesters plan to demonstrate against the city's baseball team on Thursday. The demonstrators have not commented on the killing of the rancher, Arizona being the kidnap capital of the US and the fact that the state is running a huge defecit to carry the educational and health burdens of the illegals not to mention drug and human trafficking.

The protest will occur outside Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois, where the Arizona Diamondbacks will start a four-game series against the Chicago Cubs. It remains to be seen if t he protestors will throw bottles at the Chicago Police like they did at the Arizona Police and how Windy City cops will respond.

"America's favorite pastime will be hit with a reality check," the protest's organizers wrote on a Facebook page set up to publicize their rally. "Bring signs and banners to the protest." Supporters of the law were not interviewed. By early Thursday morning, the Facebook group had more than 800 members.

It is alleged that the new Arizona law requires police to check whether a person is in the United States legally if there is a reason to suspect he or she isn't. This is not an automatic pullover at the whim of the officer. Actually the new law is based on and contains the same wording as the federal law. Police will not stop anyone who would not otherwise be of interest in a violation ( such as robbing an ice-cream store.)

Critics say the law could foster racial profiling. This has not been proved and is not based on any evidence.Along with the protest at Wrigley Field, the group said it is planning a protest march for May 1.

    #144 Somratni:

I guess you and your family is fine to carry identification with you all the time and ready to court arrest if you forget it. Don't you think it is a bit extreme to be arrested if you forget your purse or wallet?
