Immigration protest set for Cubs-Diamondbacks game

The fierce debate over a new Arizona immigration law has spread to America's pastime as protesters plan to demonstrate against the city's baseball team on Thursday.

The protest will occur outside Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois, where the Arizona Diamondbacks will start a four-game series against the Chicago Cubs.

"America's favorite pastime will be hit with a reality check," the protest's organizers wrote on a Facebook page set up to publicize their rally. "Bring signs and banners to the protest."

By early Thursday morning, the Facebook group had more than 800 members.

The new Arizona law requires police to check whether a person is in the United States legally if there is a reason to suspect he or she isn't.

Critics say the law could foster racial profiling.

Along with the protest at Wrigley Field, the group said it is planning a protest march for May 1.

Its not the illegals protesting you idiots.....It is the Mexican American or other "Latinos" who are here legally and were born and raised here that just so happen to look exactly like these illegal immigrants. I as a Mexican American would hope that the US would not make it so easy for them to set up shot by allowing them in school, giving them public assistance or any other type of help, we dotn want them here either but at the sme time I dont want my rights violated because i happen to be the same color as the people they are trying to get rid of. Also if all you people would quit hiring them....that would help too. Thats my solution. Bet it would work better than any solution the Democrats or Republicans can come up with.

lets set up an adoption agency where anyone can adopt an illegal alien alien family with the stipulation that they have to pay out of their pocket for their educaton, clothing, feeding them and pay all their medical bills.now remember they can not get any help from the government(taxpayer money) or #2 have the irs go after everyone that hires illegal aliens.

Is that ok police stop you every day on several occasions just to check your ID because of your look ! you don't know the story of JEW in WW2 . They all did not get killed by Germans .They suffered in all angles such as what i alredy said. you need to study some books. Sorry for you and for some others. Lets talk about Legal people for a second. How about Arnold! If he goes to Arizona and police stop him, no body can blame police. In his heart (the police )stopped him beacuse he didn't liked the TERMIINATOR 1 ....or he doesn't like him as the CA governor.
Bush 's GOP sold you The Iraq war by lie and now another lie by his GOP/TEA party gang. no wonder him and his wife came out of blue during the last couple of days.

Though I do not support Illegal Immigrants, but this law would put many individuals in very embrassed situation. Few here made comments that it is as easy as showing up a Drivers license, IT IS NOT THE SAME. To PROVE yourself as LEGAL Immigrant you need to carry Legal Documents with you ALL THE TIME (24 x 7). Thye would be Your passport, Visa documents and many more. Forget the Legal Alliens, what about a US citizen with a different LOOK / Skin/ Color? How many US citizens who are born and Brought up here carry a birth certificate ALL THE TIME ( 24 x 7) or your passport?
DRIVERS LICENSE will not be suffice to prove your self as LEGAL. And now if you still SUPPORT THE NEW LAW, some day one you might face the same problem, Being a U.S Citizen you are still questioned for not carrying your birth certificate or passport.
And think how many Americans have the Passport????????? How many carry the Birth Certificates with you.
IT IS NOT SAME AS SHOWING YOUR DRIVERS LICENSE TO PROVE YOUR AGE OR WHEN COP STOPS YOUR CAR. YOU NEED TO PROVE YOU ARE AMERICAN. THE ONLY WAY IS TO CARRY YOUR PASSPORT ALL THE TIME AND PROVE, KEEP PROVING YOUR WHOLE LIFE. THIS IS NOT A SOLUTION. MAKE A LAW TO ELIMINATE AND NOT DISCRIMINATE.
I used the word DISCRIMINATE here because, MOST OF US IN THIS COUNTRY IS IN AN IMMIGRANT Some time or the other, YOU CANNOT SUSPECT SOME ONE BASED ON COLOR, RACE OR HOW YOU LOOK. THIS WILL END UP AS RACIAL PROFILING.

THINK BROAD, YOU CAN SEE IT.

How is it that the illegals can come here and rally huge protests so that we change our laws to accomodate them but they can't or won't do it to fix THEIR country?

MLB will get this law reversed...I am african american and know how stupid AZ could get....I remember the fight over MLK day......with MLB being majority hispanic of some decent and the MLB all star game to be held there next year, this law will get reversed....

    ===============================================

First, no MLB will not do anything. WHY???? Because the majority in the country support Arizona's law. If MLB gets involved in this--the mjority in the country will boycott MLB.

And, in regard to MLK Day--the ONLY thing that was about--was that Arizona did not want to pay for any more state/federal holidays---no matter what the holiday. It had nothing to do with the fact that it was MLK Day.

Good points but the first thing is to get most illegals out of here then place rules and laws so the remaining ones can't get any aid

Perhaps after the illegals and their friends demonstrate at the ball games, the good citizens of Illinois will be incensed enough to get a law passed similar to Arizona's. I think every state should and I think Arizona's governor is gutsy enough to do what 90% of the legal population wants – unlike the politicians who obviously don't care about what their constituents want. Illegal is illegal is illegal – go the _ _ _ _ home!

Any "protester" that showes up should be made to prove that they are a citizen of the US- and Arizona.

Mexico has the nerve to complain about our laws against immigrants, look at their laws about immigrants. Below is a section of an article in the Washington Examiner.

Michelle Malkin: How Mexico treats its illegal immigrants
    By: Michelle Malkin

Mexican President Felipe Calderon has accused Arizona of opening the door "to intolerance, hate, discrimination and abuse in law enforcement." But Arizona has nothing on Mexico when it comes to cracking down on illegal aliens. While open-borders activists decry new enforcement measures signed into law in "Nazi-zona" last week, they remain deaf, dumb or willfully blind to the unapologetically restrictionist policies of our neighbors to the south.

The Arizona law bans sanctuary cities that refuse to enforce immigration laws, stiffens penalties against illegal alien day laborers and their employers, makes it a misdemeanor for immigrants to fail to complete and carry an alien registration document, and allows the police to arrest immigrants unable to show documents proving they are in the U.S. legally. If those rules constitute the racist, fascist, xenophobic, inhumane regime that the National Council of La Raza, Al Sharpton, Catholic bishops and their grievance-mongering followers claim, then what about these regulations and restrictions imposed on foreigners?

    – The Mexican government will bar foreigners if they upset "the equilibrium of the national demographics." How's that for racial and ethnic profiling?

    – If outsiders do not enhance the country's "economic or national interests" or are "not found to be physically or mentally healthy," they are not welcome. Neither are those who show "contempt against national sovereignty or security." They must not be economic burdens on society and must have clean criminal histories. Those seeking to obtain Mexican citizenship must show a birth certificate, provide a bank statement proving economic independence, pass an exam and prove they can provide their own health care.

    – Illegal entry into the country is equivalent to a felony punishable by two years' imprisonment. Document fraud is subject to fine and imprisonment; so is alien marriage fraud. Evading deportation is a serious crime; illegal re-entry after deportation is punishable by ten years' imprisonment. Foreigners may be kicked out of the country without due process and the endless bites at the litigation apple that illegal aliens are afforded in our country (see, for example, President Obama's illegal alien aunt - a fugitive from deportation for eight years who is awaiting a second decision on her previously rejected asylum claim).

    – Law enforcement officials at all levels - by national mandate - must cooperate to enforce immigration laws, including illegal alien arrests and deportations. The Mexican military is also required to assist in immigration enforcement operations. Native-born Mexicans are empowered to make citizens' arrests of illegal aliens and turn them in to authorities.

    – Ready to show your papers? Mexico's National Catalog of Foreigners tracks all outside tourists and foreign nationals. A National Population Registry tracks and verifies the identity of every member of the population, who must carry a citizens' identity card. Visitors who do not possess proper documents and identification are subject to arrest as illegal aliens.

All of these provisions are enshrined in Mexico's Ley General de Poblaci
