Immigration protest set for Cubs-Diamondbacks game

The fierce debate over a new Arizona immigration law has spread to America's pastime as protesters plan to demonstrate against the city's baseball team on Thursday.

The protest will occur outside Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois, where the Arizona Diamondbacks will start a four-game series against the Chicago Cubs.

"America's favorite pastime will be hit with a reality check," the protest's organizers wrote on a Facebook page set up to publicize their rally. "Bring signs and banners to the protest."

By early Thursday morning, the Facebook group had more than 800 members.

The new Arizona law requires police to check whether a person is in the United States legally if there is a reason to suspect he or she isn't.

Critics say the law could foster racial profiling.

Along with the protest at Wrigley Field, the group said it is planning a protest march for May 1.

    There is nothing wrong with this bill. If I am asked for identification by the police I should provide it. This law is no different. Everyone is saying this gives the police a right to harass and profile. You know it is a funny thing. I live in AZ and the majority of the police force is Hispanic. Why does everyone link this to being white? This is about the law and by the way before you judge us Arizonians come and live here for awhile and see just how bad things are.

    To all of the legal US Citizens who think this is a bad law, GFY!!! Illegal is illegal!! Come to our country the correct way or suffer the consequences. To ALL the government officals who don't back or enforce the LAWS, GFY and then resign and then move out of it, including BHO (has he proven his status? maybe that is why he isn't supporting it?). There should be a hotline to report illegals and there should be a reward for saving money since the illegals wont be SUCKING OFF THE GOVT.
    So the Health Care Law requires insurance and if I don't prove have it I will be fined. But we don't want to ask about legal status because we might offend? WTF

    Hopefully Immigration officals are at the protests taking video,pictures and checking id's, but I'll bet they don't.

    Maybe Ronald is right......"Burn it all"

    MLB will get this law reversed...I am african american and know how stupid AZ could get....I remember the fight over MLK day......with MLB being majority hispanic of some decent and the MLB all star game to be held there next year, this law will get reversed....

    ===============================================

    First, no MLB will not do anything. WHY???? Because the majority in the country support Arizona's law. If MLB gets involved in this–the mjority in the country will boycott MLB.

    And, in regard to MLK Day–the ONLY thing that was about–was that Arizona did not want to pay for any more state/federal holidays-no matter what the holiday. It had nothing to do with the fact that it was MLK Day.

    =============================================

    Another small thinker....Go ahead and boycott MLB who is mostly hispanic immigrants who more than likely have some family illegal....That is a major concern for MLB....and if they move the all star game another city will reap the benefits of tourism....Call it what you want from your ethnic group point of view but from MY ethnic point of view the MLK situation lost AZ a great deal of money....People want to complain about the economy but also complain about the things that could bring their city money....just shows the stupidity in this country as well as the ingnorance.

    If you don't live in Arizona, write to your congressmen, your governor and your state representatives. Tell them YOU want your own state to pass a version of AZ SB 1070.

    Racial profiling should absolutely happen. We have to make this people understand that it is not right for them to be in this country illgally. It's not fair that to people who do come to this country and go through the steps to become a citizen and pay taxes like every other american. I f people do not like it then they should leave the country. Period. This is a law peolpe and everyone must abide by the laws. If you love being here in this country you should not have a problem with. Seems to me that the people that are complaining about are people who have something to hide.

    When you have a kidnapping a day in Phoenix ( with various degrees of torture), plus drug smuggling, and out of control gang violence. Did you honestly think that citizens in Arizona weren't going to get upset? Maybe now the Mexican government will have to rewrite their how to sneak into America pamphlets to go around Arizona.
    The real fear for pro-immigration amnesty groups is that the state will have a budget surplus by not having to give these people welfare or services.
