Immigration protest set for Cubs-Diamondbacks game

The fierce debate over a new Arizona immigration law has spread to America's pastime as protesters plan to demonstrate against the city's baseball team on Thursday.

The protest will occur outside Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois, where the Arizona Diamondbacks will start a four-game series against the Chicago Cubs.

"America's favorite pastime will be hit with a reality check," the protest's organizers wrote on a Facebook page set up to publicize their rally. "Bring signs and banners to the protest."

By early Thursday morning, the Facebook group had more than 800 members.

The new Arizona law requires police to check whether a person is in the United States legally if there is a reason to suspect he or she isn't.

Critics say the law could foster racial profiling.

Along with the protest at Wrigley Field, the group said it is planning a protest march for May 1.

  2. Law Abiding Citizen

In California and all over America African Americans on a daily basis are asked if they are on Probation or Parole when they come in contact with Law Enforcement. When you go to a Foreign Country you must show your passport and have it on you at all times, so then why are these people in an uproar about laws being instituted to assure that everyone here is legally here, and not here because they broke the law to get here, and further have broken several laws for documentation to stay here which means that they have victimized an American Citizen, such as myself. The only reason there is a outcry is economics and greed by those that are profiting by this illegal action. It is shameful to me that we turn our heads when it is profitiable to a few in the state but it has a devastating effect on the community and the unemployment rate of work seeking Americans. In California almost every fast food place here has hired illegals, or showing racism by only hiring Latino persons, and no other race. These jobs aren't picking Fruit and vegetables. I have been to other countries and you must abide by their laws why can't we engforce out laws here! If so abolish all laws and lets go back to the old West!

Thank GOD someone in this country is trying to do something about this infestation! How long can WE as American's deal with our jobs disappearing and our women and daughters being violated. I live in El Paso, Tx and it is crazy here! I live next to Juarez, Mexico and it is bad I would not be surprised if six months from now our city doesn’t start to enforce a curfew, but they will never have the strength to due what Arizona is doing Because we are Mexico's Second Economy next to DRUG trafficking. Don't believe me check the FACTS!!! On top of that they don't spend time in JAIL just enough to deport them!!! They had 2 Illegal's just this week charged with SEXUAL ASSULT did they spend time in jail for that.... HELL NO they got deported to Mexico. We don't even know how many are here. If I get pulled over I am asked for I.D. why should they be any different. If I commit a crime I will sit in jail, when they commit a crime they get to go home. Don't even think I am RACIST I have two mixed children on Half Hispanic and one Half Black, I love people BUT THIS IS WRONG. YOUR NOT HERE LEGALLY NO MATTER WERE YOUR FROM GET OUT>>>> PLEASE

Give me a freaking break. A protest at a baseball game? what is with these people? They haven't even read the bill and are acting like they are all going to be arrested and deported! all you need is an ID! Hopefully the illegals are self deporting from there. If that is the case, that means the law is working already! The U.S. Citizens should be glad instead of pissed off about the law.

The newspaper, El Pais from Madrid, Spain, reported on April 28th that Mexico is hell for immigrants from the little countries from Central America. As an American, I want to fly into Mexico City, walk out of the airplane, and hail a cab. I can not do that. I have to go through their inefficient immigration. If I complained that I do not want to go through immigration, would the Mexicans around me support me or would they kick me out? They would kick me out and perhaps the next day I'd wake up with ants in my eyes.
It is time for Mexico to take care of its citizens and be responsible – peaceful invasion is not allowed, not even in China..........Mexico should make room in the US for other legal citizens from Argentina, Chile, Urugua, Brazil, Nicaragua, Costa Rica,..........etc.

The one way to end illegal immigration is to fine or jail companies that hire them. In florida many illegals take jobs that citizens won't take. Many times they are taken advantage of(yes, I know they are illegal).
I believe that a country has a right to secure its own borders. There are effective ways to do it. Racist, unconstitutional laws aren't the way to accomplish it.

    yes, basically we plundered mexico

    ---------------------

    History lesson for you libbie......

We fought wars with Mexico and we WON. if you do not like the fact that we won, move to Mexico then.

Then, the US even PAID Mexico for the territory that we won.

I actually wish I were a Hispanic US citizen in Arizona. Then I would look for opportunities for a cop to "resonably suspect" I am an illegal immigrant and I would definitely not be carrying my birth certificate or passport. Before you know it I'd be riding this case all the wqy to the US Supreme Court. I would feel sorry for the police officer who is being put in a dangerous predicament between enforcing the new law and violating citizens' civil rights.

How nice of them to gather in one place to commit an offense to be checked to see if they are "undocumented."

When will people stop and understand the meaning of "illegal" and that if you aid and abet an illegal act you have committed a crime and should be arrested and/or removed from PUBLIC OFFICE for not fulfilling your oath to uphold the United States of America's Continuation.

If this passes in Texas I'm sure I'll be one of those checked because of my coloring – but I am an American Indian / Pacific Islander and my family came legally and have worked hard for where they are. They did not come for a free ticket to paradise.

I hope that they round up all those who are not AMERICAN and send them home – I'm tired of my tax dollars being used for illegal purposes.

"llegals are simply that – illegal. If I went to a foriegn country I would be expected to have my documentation with me – passport – visa – whatever. So why are people so upset about a law that is already a law. If employeers wnat illeagls to work for them get them work visas – isn't that how it's supposed to work. Or – here's a novel idea – hire a few Americans."

Once again someone misses the point. This law gives law enforcement the right to ask ANYONE who they suspect of being illegal for their papers. Meaning Law abiding legal residents of Mexican, Honduran, Puerto Rican, Native American, or anyone who happens to be dark. It doesn’t matter if they are a Medal of Honor winner they have to produce papers proving that they belong here. That is the issue. Do you think Canadians or Swedes or Britain’s are going to be subject to this because they can be illegal also. If you do you are living in another world.

I don't get it. American citizens protest the health care bill and they are called red neck gun carrying hillbilly terrorists and yet illegals stage a protest and it's OK, let's support them. What a joke!!! The real truth is the Federal Government doesn't want to lose the Latinos vote so they won't do anything about the issue. KUDDOS to Arizona for taking control of their own border. I have no problem with Mexican or any other ethnic group immigrating to the US as long as they do so legally. It's the illegals that put the drain on the social systems that cost HARDWORKING TAX PAYING AMERICANS so much money.
I live in a small Northeast city and guess what, 2 years ago when immigration laws were an issue for the election we had an influx of Hispanics from the southwest and now we're having problems with Mexican Gangs taking over neighborhoods and tagging every flat wall in sight.

Everyone who comes to this country illegally, IS AFTER SOMETHING...My GD tax money! It appears to me that most of those here concerned about the plight of the illegals are already sucking on the governments socialist teat. Keep sucking people, you have just about sucked the cow dry. Then what are you going to cry about?

CAPNMIKE SUMMED IT UP LIKE HE WAS READING MY MIND. Sick and tired of being the doormat and the 'CandyMan' for the illegals. I would like to ask President Obama to step down for all the lies he's telling the American people regarding his take on Immigration Reform.... and to please take all his crooked cronies with him!!! Stop stealing from those of us who work hard everyday to give to those ignorant, uneducated, violent hispanics who have no regard for the American way of life. They want to form their own "little Mexico" INSIDE our great country and we are giving them the full speed ahead. You bleeding hearts and liberals, please , please stop being patsies and panty waists for the ILLEGAL OCCUPANTS of our nation.

I'm a nurse. They barely get through registration process when they enter the hospital and they're asking for free car seats, free subsidies to help get a place to live, free help with gas/light bills, WIC, Medicaid. And you know what? They get it and it's written off as CHARITY/ Just pisses me off!!! They KNOW what to ask for. All programs WE have paid into all our lives. They just walk over like skilled thieves~~~~~~~AND TAKE IT ALL FROM US!!

I want to see REAL border protection--the kind that says AMERICANs MEAN BUSINESS!!! ILLEGAL ALIENS KEEP OUT!! ILLEGALS STAY OUT!! Replace them with some REAL MEN who believe in giving anyone who attempts to cross our borders illegally~~~be they men, women or children..... a 'hot velocity lead implant'. And those that are already here I say: "Pack your donkey,(Leave our tax funded anuuities and programs you've been sucking up and abusing behind --and head yo' ass back across the border, because YOU ARE NOT WELCOMED HERE!!"

    A M E N!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
