Immigration protest set for Cubs-Diamondbacks game

The fierce debate over a new Arizona immigration law has spread to America's pastime as protesters plan to demonstrate against the city's baseball team on Thursday.

The protest will occur outside Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois, where the Arizona Diamondbacks will start a four-game series against the Chicago Cubs.

"America's favorite pastime will be hit with a reality check," the protest's organizers wrote on a Facebook page set up to publicize their rally. "Bring signs and banners to the protest."

By early Thursday morning, the Facebook group had more than 800 members.

The new Arizona law requires police to check whether a person is in the United States legally if there is a reason to suspect he or she isn't.

Critics say the law could foster racial profiling.

Along with the protest at Wrigley Field, the group said it is planning a protest march for May 1.

I want to know when it became the Constitution of the World? Our constitution gives rights to American citizens, if it also applies to everyone else then being an American isn't all that special. They are illegal immigrants. not citizens. They all only have the right to be loaded onto buses and sent home to the country they truely love. If Obama would enforce this and add permanent 24 hour border patrol the unemployment rate would drop 3-4% minimum.

All the people in support of ithis law should remember that America is a country that was built by immigrants, who came to this country illegally. I am an immigrant, who came here legally and I have ensured that i have done everything by the law. My passport is a very sensitive document, and I do not think that it's fair for me to walk around with it. People are constantly trying to steal passports which is why you keep them IN A SAFE place except for when you need it. Travelling with your passport everyday just to prove that you are legal is simply not safe. People here seem to think that all immigrants in America are illegal BUT this is not the case...there are a lot more people who do things by the book and so why should we have to suffer too? Ant the funny thing is most of the people that do the dirty jobs, that you Americans do not want to do are immigrants, not only that but a lot of the people in the technology world, your doctors, lawyers are immigrants too. Immigrants actually add a lot of value to this country and the sooner you realize that, the better of you will be!

If we don't want people climbing through the window of our house, open the door. By this I mean, let's fix the immigration issue on a national level. Secure the borders and provide ways for those who are undocumented but law-abiding people good hardworking people to fairly become citizens or get a green card. Develop come kind of guest worker program for seasonal workers. As it is now, they often stay because they can't easily move back and forth across the border as they did before the mid 1960s. The federal government should share the costs of legal and illegal immigration of border states.

This is not new for us. Remember, most Irish immigrants came over during the potato famine. Most were illiterate, starving, and simply wanted a better way of life. They clearly were not documented and they were treated badly. (See the book "How the Irish Became White"). The best thing that happened to the Irish is the Italians came in the next wave and everyone was concerned about their impact. Now it's the Mexicans. Of course, Mexican immigrants will keep coming because it is a poor country and on the border. Rather than writing laws that contradict basic American values such as equality, fairness, nondiscrimination, hard work, and so on, let's fix the problem in way that reflect what a great country we really are. We've done in in the past. Let's do it again.

It is sad that all of you whining about illegals are all descendants of illegals. We tell the world that "WE" are the best and that anyone, well almost anyone can achieve their dreams here, but those freedoms and happinesses are only for the chosen few lucky enough to be born here. Or pay the price of entry. I am here of immigrant stock and I bet most of you low IQ's are too. With the exception of those we brought here on slave boats or those few who's ancestors actually were here before Jamestown. You all make me sick, I can't think of a better word. You selfish pieces of s... wait my immigrant grandmother taught me not to say bad things about others.

If the natives of America as we told them what it was called would have treated our ancestors as we now treat the rest of this world... we would still be in europe waiting for the next war of dominance to occur by other morons we believe to be civilized.

May God have mercy on your soul when he asks you how you treated his children.

The REALITY is the MEXICO shoots border crossers on its southern tier. The media doesn't tell you that. If you are illegal in Mexico, they deport you. The media doesn't tell you that. Why are we adopting an approach that is not quid-pro-quo?

By the way...why is it that almost every protester on here will get mad if someone jumps the line in front of them at Disney World, yet, have no indignation for all those who jumped the fence and the line in front of all those who wish to immigrate to the U.S. legally?

Not only is this new law a great law, but also we need to start going after American employers who hire illegals. There are still fines for knowingly hiring these people.
There are LAWS against this. In time, hopefully soon, people will realize the most effective
way to deal with the illegal immigrant problem is to go after employers who hire them and take away those jobs from Americans simply because it's cheaper and more cost effective.

Why don't the police and ICE go over to Wrigley Field and take that opportunity to round up all the illegal aliens and ship them back to Mexico? Why do they even have a voice to begin with when they aren't even citizens with the right to voice an opinion anyway? What part of ILLEGAL don't they understand? Oh yeah, I forgot, most of them don't speak English anyway....

I think there's an easy solution that would change the minds of many people who support this law. I am sure there is a large percentage of Hispanic and Black U.S. citizens amongst the ranks of every police force. They should make it a point to randomly stop any white person in Arizona and claim they "reasonably suspect" the person in question could be an illegal alien from say Canada or the UK for example. If the person is not able to provide a passport or a birth certificate right on the spot to prove they are in fact American Citizens or legal residents (a driver's license won't suffice) then the person should be immediately arrested and charged with a felony in accordance to Arizona's new law.

Well, the illegals are upset because American govt has finally found a way to cut into their wallets. This is the ONLY reason they are so mad. Period! We are finally getting the ball rolling to take back the 100's of billions the illegals are costing the citizens of this country. Arizona will be doing EXACTLY what the govt in mexico does. EXACTLY!! Crybaby, intellect lacking hypocrites. Yeah, go to mexico and walk around for 5 minutes and tell me a mexican cop doesn't start in on you. You won't be able to. But its okay for these vermin to come HERE and expect everything to be handed to them? Get real! Go home scumbags. Our economy would flourish without you. That's been proven over and over again. 100's of billions in free healthcare and you have the nerve to complain? I can't even afford health care for MY family! Free school for your thieving kids? Here in a few thousand years when you evolve enough to become as smart as the rest of the world, you will see how stupid you/re being.

What are you blabbing about, you can come to this great country from foreign lands and become a citizen LEGALLY, the problem is that there are people who by the very act of being here are breaking the law because they haven't gone through the proper channels- that's why we call them ILLEGALS

Make sure your representative knows that you support immigration Enforcement. Right now these people are "scared" of the clanging pots of the small but organized few.

If you are legal, you have nothing to hide. Racial profiling would have prevented September 11th. White Americans have certain traits that can be profiled, so do Muslims, so do Mexicans, so do French, etc..

As a whole we act a certain way, you can call it profiling or stereotyping but it is simply a fact. Quit whining about it. It is also a fact that illegal immigrants are the cancer of America. We need to do whatever is necessary to take this country back. If you want to be here, do it legally. I am sick of seeing all the illegals on the side of the road in groups waiting to be picked up for work so they can send the money back to Mexico.
