Congressman arrested at immigration rally

Police arrested Illinois Rep. Luis Gutierrez at an immigration rally outside the White House on Saturday.
Gutierrez, a Democrat, was among a group of protesters arrested by police in front of the White House.
The protesters wore T-shirts that read, "ARREST ME NOT MY FAMILY" and "ARREST ME NOT MY FRIENDS."

    The process of becoming a LEGAL citizen of The United States of America isn't supposed to be easy. Its hard. The more work you put in to becoming something the more you appreciate what you've accomplished and who you've become. If America were to allow citizenship to everybody and their brother who felt like they "deserved" to live in the greatest nation in history, there is no way in hell our economy would survive. Our nation, the one EVERY LEGAL CITIZEN takes pride in being a part of, would cease to exist. If you are proud to be in America, proud to be and American, you should respect the laws that have been put in place to protect it by the people who work so hard to make it so great. If you can't respect that, you don't deserve to be here.

    People who say that the Constitution is only for "citizens" need to go back and read it again.

    "No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."

    Take not of the "any person within its jurisdiction" part. It doesn't apply specifically to citizens, it's for ANY PERSON.

    Each and EVERY state has the right to enforce thier own laws, regardless of what the refer too. I am proud of AZ and thier struggle to fight these illegal invasions. To all of those who are against immigration enforcement, maybe we can send you down south so you can help your fellow commrades.

    Leo, you are not stopped by the police and asked to show your papers. The changes they just made to the law today help, but it doesn't change the fact that the proper way to go about this is to target employers, who are screwing americans out of jobs by hiring illegal immigrants.

    Again as someone stated we are a country of immigrants, I am second generation American, but my grandparents came here legally. Americans are asked everyday for ID when we travel, drive, enroll in schools, sports, the list goes on. These illegals are offended, first they are criminals, when they enter this country illegally. They won't learn the language, but expect us to change signs, telephone answering, everything to spanish. Other legal immigrants, came here worked hard, no signs in Italian, French, Polish, etc. many are still waiting for years to get here. They are parasites,

    Arrest this illegals and return them where they belong. They are the reason why the States are in hardship. they are collecting and using the facilities in the US that should be for the citizens. legalize the ones with work permit . throw out the illegals they are a menace to our ways of living.

    Don't elect this politicians who supports illegals.

    Hurray Arizona , just keep your stand, we support you. Hope other States follow your leads.

    Thanks Informed! COMMENT #145 The truth is a lot of people is ignorant on the immigration issue and all they can say is: "Take the illegals out."
    What these people don't know is that, without illegals, the USA would collapse to its own system.
    Did you people know that a comprehensive immigration reform would generate 1.5 TRILLION in revenue over the next 10 years? That's more than enough to get out of this recession.

    If you look at the actual legal citizens of Arizona , a majority approve the law that got signed. Your tax dollers are supprting the illegals that come here, so either support the law or dont bitch when your taxes go up!!

    Bull exhaust! Of the over 7 hundred thousand people who became U.S. citizens last year (2009), Mexico as a nation was the leading source (#1) of immigrants at 111,630, followed by India at 52,889.

    For comparison only 17,576 South Koreans became U.S. citizens last year.

    An additional 61,674 came from South America (less than came from Europe and Asia but more than came from Africa or the Oceania) .

    I don't care if a person immigrates to this country by the legal means. However if you come here illegally and I don't care from what origin you are you should be sent back.. You have had every chance to come here legally but you chose not to. While you where here you had kids well you put yourself into that position. There are many US citizens who are of need of aid wheter it is financial or health that are denied because of one reason or another. While illegal immigrents seem to get free aid cause they have learn to use the the system. This new Arizona law it may have some bd points in it but then it has some good points. People should be mad at the Federal government for not doing its job with immigration issue. Arizona had to do something. Would one rather have the national guard man our boarders instead or build a wall. It's time for the legal citizens to take back this country of ours. If you want to immigrate go through the proper channels or just plain go back to where you come from.
