Congressman arrested at immigration rally

Police arrested Illinois Rep. Luis Gutierrez at an immigration rally outside the White House on Saturday.
Gutierrez, a Democrat, was among a group of protesters arrested by police in front of the White House.
The protesters wore T-shirts that read, "ARREST ME NOT MY FAMILY" and "ARREST ME NOT MY FRIENDS."

I am completely entertained by all of the protesting going on over the Immigration Law in Arizona.

Illegal immigration is precisely that, ILLEGAL!

So just to put another log on the fire, my solution to this ILLEGAL immigration issue is simple.

    Familiar with Check-Point Charlie?

    No?

My solution is build a wall, a big one. Let the Military handle this situation and make the southern border of the United States exactly the same as the Berlin Wall. With the associated laws adjusted accordingly too. If you are caught jumping that wall, lethal force will be authorized. No more deportation, no more jail time.

I have no issue with LEGAL immigration and even issued work visas. But its the ILLEGAL part that I have issue with.

For those that are already here, you will be granted amnesty, however your citizenship paperwork must be filed by a certain date or you will be deported, then subject to the same rule.

This may sound brutal, but the simple fact is other countries are serious about their immigration laws, and handle illegal immigration with a fairly firm hand. I encourage the USA to handle this problem likewise.

I am not racist, just being fair to the people whom already live here and work in this country, regardless of the country they are from. Its not fair that the folks who work, live and/or who were born here should have their tax dollars diverted to handle the illegals that are here tapping the system when they have no right to it in the first place.

Folks are claiming race as an issue?

That is not how I see it at all. I see it as a problem for the entire country as a whole, and all of the people who live and work here, period.

It doesn't say why he was arrested...just because he was protesting? Why publish this without any relevant details?

I am ashamed of all the anti-immigrant rhetoric I keep reading in all of these blogs. You obviously don't read or do research. These immigrants contribute greatly to our economy and they pay taxes and contribute to social security but may never claim a single penny of it.

Stop listening to the garbage you get from fox news' agenda. It is all flawed and instills fear and spread lies. Do your research. Don't be ignorant. If these people were really really messing this country and there was legitimate research that showed that, they would not be here. If there was not a market of strong demand for cheap labor in this country, these people could not find a job and hence would not be here in the first place. 12 million people are here because the job market needs them. Otherwise they would have left already becaue they could not find a job.

You anti-immigrants sound very ignorant and basically you all repeat the same sh** over and over. The republican party is a filled with a bunch of lairs that instill fears and hatred.

You should all be concerned with how many jobs we have lost by cheap labor thirsty companies shipping our manufacturing jobs, as well as other jobs to China, India and other countries. Who is fueling China's Economy?

Our focus needs to be adjusted. What is damaging the middle class is our shipping of jobs oversees. We need cheap labor in this country or it will be shipped outside. Deport all these 12 million people and you will see what happens. These people spend billions of dollars in our local economy, send money back home that eventually comes back to us because those countries buy American products. WAKE UP AMERICA. I NEED TO SEE MADE IN AMERICA rise to the top now...instead of made in china. Look at everything you are wearing....where is the MADE IN AMERICA!!!!!!! WHERE!!!!!

Listen to Bill Clinton's discussion that over the last 20 years or so our economy has been fuels by financial products and borrowed money while losing our manufacturing jobs oversees. If we don't produce and export we don't get money and don't have jobs. Stop targeting groups. That is Un-American. Instead target what the REAL problem is. You all sound like a bunch of ignorant racists.

I f the illegals are so willing to protest for the right to stay here, recieve the help of the government and protest so loudly the why cant they do it in thier own country? If Mexico and the Mexican way of life are so grand then stay there and protest your own government and get your own government to pay you to have babies and not work. Stay out of the schools and hospitals here. Stop bleeding our country dry. AND FORGET LA RAZA!

Seriously, people, what is wrong with cracking down on illegal activity? If you are in a country illegally, expect to get booted out.

Why would you wear a t-shirt saying 'arrest me' if you didn't want to be taken at your word? And... are you TELLING us you have friends & family here illegally? That might be the next thing police investigate.

Come on this is no different than me living in South Korea at the moment and having to carry ID on me where ever I go.
I fear not, because I have nothing to fear!

The tone of these comments is so disturbing. A law is being passed that allows law enforcement to harass people based on appearance. Surely you all understand why respecting that everyone is innocent until proven guilty is a basic civil right.

Should the police question every man in your town after a rape?
Should every NRA member be questioned after a shooting?
Should everybody driving a car be pulled over after a hit and run?
Should I conclude that all US citizens are ignorant and angry after reading these comments?

You know you take away human rights? Divide and conquer.
One day they will come for you and nobody will be left to stand up for your rights.

Please, please, please, take the time to learn more about issues and don't just follow the special interest groups that fit your reflex thinking. You live in a country that showed the world what freedom could mean and it is slipping away from you because you are too lazy to really learn- educate yourself – you are letting fear and desperation open a pandora's box.

I can't believe some of the comments. Our national debt is 12.9 trillion dollars now and in 10 years will be 23 trillion. There will be only enough money to pay for social security, medicare, medicaid and interest on the debt.We will not have enough money to pay for our miltary.Illegals suck up so many resources compared to what they contribute to society. The educational system and hospitalization of these illegals is causing the border states to close hospitals and cut back on educational programs.I'm not sure why that have bilingual education. It has been proven to be a waste of money but the teachers union loves additional programs that are worthless. When this country defaults on it's debt to china, japan and mid east countries the united states will have to cutback on food stamps, section 8 housing and free medical care for illegals because you'll need it for the legals.By the way Obamas aunt is still in Massachusetts with free housing, free medical care and food stamps and she was to go back to africa in January since she is illegal. She showed up with 3 lawyers in January to keep her in the country.I wonder who paid for the lawyers????

If you are illegal and love America this much and don't want to leave...just go become legal, then you won't have any problems.
Also, why are they in front of the White House? Don't they know that the Federal Government opposes this law just as much as they do?

Also, to the people saying "we are all immigrants", umm no.
My whole family was born here and are legal and we pay our taxes. There's a difference between immigration and illegal immigration.
