Congressman arrested at immigration rally

Police arrested Illinois Rep. Luis Gutierrez at an immigration rally outside the White House on Saturday.
Gutierrez, a Democrat, was among a group of protesters arrested by police in front of the White House.
The protesters wore T-shirts that read, "ARREST ME NOT MY FAMILY" and "ARREST ME NOT MY FRIENDS."

I saw a video in the news where American soldiers were destroying poppy fields in Afghanistan. so, I got an idea, if we deport these people to Mexico, they will come back immediately. so it will be a waste of money and resource, but if we send these individuals to Afghanistan there is no possibility to come back; the spent money will be the same, but the result will be different. they don' t speak the language here, so which will be the difference? they have a job there to perform they are very well trained at that, and at the same time they will serve our nation! Go Arizona! And the rest of the States should do the same!

    "lawful contact"?

the violence associated with southern border traffic rivals that of a
    combat zone.

anyone quick to judge the arizona law should put away the political
chess board and pay some respect to the harshness of that reality.

they can report on the sharp edge of the law but the real story is
    lost in the weeds.

way to go congressman, you need to leave the house ,you brought shame to everone ,by your actions, what was gained ,you just show that AZ did the only thing . THIS IS ALl ABOUT VOTES, THE Dems want the votes, so they can stay in power. My question is do they want to honor people that break the law,or honor the people that go thru the legeal process to enter our country .

unfortunately, it's not so CUT AND DRY for someone who has relatives or know people that have not been as fortunate to become legal. Granted, everyone has a chance to become a legal citizen of this country, not everyone has the means to accomplish that right away, whether it be financial or other. How calm would you be knowing that someone you cared for could be arrested and deported and there's nothing you can do about it. This doesn't only affect the person, it also affects their families and friend.

i've been reading this mindless drivel and have come to this conclusion:JUST HOW STUPID CAN YOU WETBACKS BE,RAVING ABOUT SOMEONE TRAMPLING ON YOUR CIVIL RIGHTS!!UNLESS YOU ARE NATURAL OR NATURALIZED CITIZEN,YOU HAVE NO CIVIL RIGHTS.YOU ARE HERE ILLEGALLY ,SUCKING OUR COUNTRY DRY,LIVING OFF THE SWEAT OF PEOPLE WHO WORKED AND BUILT THIS COUNTRY,DEVISED WAYS OF CARING FOR OUR SICK AND ELDERLY,AND PAY TAXES TO SUPPORT THAT WAY OF LIFE.IF,IN FACT YOU CONTRIBUTE ANYTHING TO THIS END,IT IS COMPLETELY OVERSHADOWED BY WHAT YOU UNDESERVIDLEY REAP IN RETURN.SO I SAY AGAIN,YOU HAVE NO RIGHTS,NOT EVEN THE RIGHT TO BE HERE.NOW SHUT UP AND SWIM BACK WHERE YOU CAME FROM!!!!!!

I am getting tired of all the bickering by you "civil rights" activist who don't even know the rights you claim to be protecting and fighting for. If you are Illegal you are disobeying the law and should be dealt with accordingly. People always claim racusm, What the Nazi's did was racism. Arizona is simply trying to uphold the law. If you are legal you have nothing to worry about. It's simple. I have worked in foreign countries for my job and never disobeyed the immigration laws and made sure my company had all my papers in order. If you want to enjoy the rights of America you should do it the right way. My wife immigrated here and is a legal resident working towards her citizenship and she feels the same way because she is doing everything the legal way. Illegals make it harder for the immigrants who have waited years to get their citizenship. Illegal immigration is wrong no matter race, nation, or creed. It is time to stop giving handouts and start enforcing the law, I support immigration as long as it is legal and controlled. Wake up America.

All of you, get out!! My folks were here before there was a United States of America. Unfortunately, the immigration laws were a little lax and a lot of undesireables got in. So now I would like yoou all to leave.

this is the only country in the world who asks questions. try running a border anywhere else, and you will be met with gunfire. Napoleon once said any country that cannot defend its borders is doomed. this country has been invaded, and now it is time to drive out those who do not have the right to be here. remember, if you are not a citizen of this country, you have no rights in this country. Anybody in the world who wants to be here can do so. Just follow the rules and you will gain access. Its that simple. what are these people really complaining about? of course you can have a better life here, but what kind of life is it when you break multiple laws daily by simply just being here. go about things the right way and you will be rewarded with permission to stay.

@FedUpVet (#3104), shame on YOU!! This is a very Fascist bill indeed, it promotes racial profiling, and that is exactly what was done in Nazi Germany with the Nuremberg Laws. Get off the internet and go read your history books (if you even have any).

Dear Ruth, May 1st, 2010, the history of the Americas states very clearly that even the Native Americans were immigrants at one time.

This is NOT a civil rights issue. This is an issue of law. If you are illegal in the United States, you really don't have any rights, except for the right to be deported.
