Congressman arrested at immigration rally

Police arrested Illinois Rep. Luis Gutierrez at an immigration rally outside the White House on Saturday.
Gutierrez, a Democrat, was among a group of protesters arrested by police in front of the White House.
The protesters wore T-shirts that read, "ARREST ME NOT MY FAMILY" and "ARREST ME NOT MY FRIENDS."

Regarding this Congressman's act, he certainly felt strongly about the situation, but I think again... location location location.

With the shirts being so incendiary, it was hardly surprising, whatever arose that he was arrested. But where does this go? Should a Congressman be at the head of a protest for illegal aliens or is it all so simple?

If he has time to demonstrate, then he has time to legislate. Seriously, don't jeopardize your law making with public abandon. It's a good story sure, but the better story would've been how you say, "And I feel for my fellow brethren, in the streets, protesting in the streets for a dissolution of a wrong law in another state. If they were arrested, set them free, for we have known to much hardship here, why continue it? It's time to legalize the much too known secret– illegal aliens.

Not saying it's right. Just saying it's the way of a legislator, apparently not this one, who wanted personally to practice what he preached in an asking for it manner. I mean "Arrest Me..." Really. .

No one cares that the drama queen got arrested. It's cliche.

I think this debate is distracting us from a more obvious and less divisive solution: Target illegal employers. They are the source of the problem.

Conduct audits and fine them $5000 for every illegal worker they employ. No excuses. Subcontractors included, we know that dodge. The marketplace will seal the holes in e-verify in a week.

If it's still a problem after that, we can go back at each other's throats.

Now, Rep.Gutierrez has an arrest record like 65 milllion other Americans. When immigration reform is eventually passed & illegals are put on a "path to citizenship" by paying a fine ,learning English etc., they will have NO arrest record while having commited numerous offences (income tax evasion, S.S. card fraud, failure to register for Selective Service etc.) Will Americans have the same opportunity to buy their way out of a criminal record as the illegals? Fat chance! Where will "Equal Justice Under Law" (etched in stone on the Supreme Court Building) be found?

If you've got all the detail about the dream, you know that it is only for people who entered the country 15 or less years of age, when was the last time a 15 or less years of age committed numerous offenses such as (income tax evasion, S.S. card fraud, failure to register for Selective Service etc.). They were brought here by their parents, meaning they had no say in the matter, and if they grew up willing to work hard to earn a college degree or serve for the country, why shouldn't they be given the opportunity. You say citizenship is something to be earned, in my eyes they are doing more than those who were simply born and given the privilege of being a citizen whether they serviced the country or not. They are giving back to the country, most importantly they a part of the future of this country

People we are talking about Illegal this means against the law. Why would people stand up to help something illegal? These people have lost their minds.

We should not and will not change our laws to allow mass groups of hispanics to flood our country. They have destroyed their homeland and are now trying to take over our homeland, Americans will not stand for it. If you want to be a citizen then go by it the legal way, we can't help everyone without helping our own sick and starving people. I'm tired of going to the gas station and being looked at weird b/c I speak english, I'm sick to my stomach b/c our children can't say the pledge of allegence in schools anymore or wear t-shirts that show our patriotism for this country. I'm tired of people being offended b/c we don't do things the way they do in their home country, I'm tired of waiting in long lines to get help for my family (who have lived here and paid taxes for generations), behind people that think they deserve the same benefits as American citizen. What about the kids that crossed over into Iran (BY ACCIDENT!!) they are now in jail and the mothers are fighting to get them back.. All we do is make them go back home, and that makes us racist!! Of course they would say they are trying to get us to change our laws and change our culture to suit them. What about La Raza, its a movement to retake the US and make it a part of Mexico. Why are we entertaining them? Why are we meeting their demands, they are not citizens of this country. Will any of the hispanics fight for us if we go to war with Mexico or will they bomb our schools and business from the inside? Its to scary to take that chance. We need to stand our ground and not let these illegal people change how we conduct this country, they have rights in Mexico not in the USA!!! They have abandoned their own country, why don't they make it better there? The country is only as bad as the people have made it.. Do you want the US to turn into the same system as Mexico? Then go ahead and let them all come in so they can corrupt our system as well. Oh and don't forget the drug cartells they have the same right to come to this country and complain as well!! People don't be stupid, protect your homeland at all cost, before another civil war erupts and a repeats the Alamo!
