Congressman arrested at immigration rally

Police arrested Illinois Rep. Luis Gutierrez at an immigration rally outside the White House on Saturday.
Gutierrez, a Democrat, was among a group of protesters arrested by police in front of the White House.
The protesters wore T-shirts that read, "ARREST ME NOT MY FAMILY" and "ARREST ME NOT MY FRIENDS."

What all of you fail to recognize is that people are being profiled for the color of their skin, their nationality and culture. There is no way to differentiate between an Hispanic- American and an illegal immigrant.

The only way for the law enforcement officers to tell the difference is to ask for proof of citizenship. Why should we as Hispanic-American Citizens be asked for proof of citizenship soley based on the color of our skin?

The law breaks the human and civil rights aspect of our US Constitution for those of you who fail to study History. You should know that we ALL are not from this country. No ONE is full-blooded American, other than our Native American counterparts. Educate yourselves before you post any of these comments.

The Arizona Law was revisted. Check it out.

Why are people fighting this law? Yes, the original Immigration Bill encouraged racial profiling. Originally, police were allowed to question individuals based purely on skin color. However, the bill has already been changed and questioning a person's citizenship can only occur if they are caught committing an illegal act.

You have to love when those in the ant-laws set throw out the "we're a nation of immigrants" line, while ignoring the term "legal". Just like they like to ignore that we are, indeed, a nation of laws.

If you're in a court of law and you know you're innocent, you have nothing to worry about.

Do sincerely believe that innocent people were never convicted or guilty set free?

you realize these people are protesting something that hasn't even happened? they are claiming to be psychic, predicting the future, and protesting against it. what if the bill ends up working perfectly without any problems?

I love how these self-proclaimed "non-racists" immediately call for Mr. Gutierrez deportation. He is a United States citizen and a legally elected representative, but, since he disagrees with you and his skin is a different color, you call for his deportation? Other than from racism and racist beliefs, where can a comment like that come from? It's certainly not an American sentiment. If you racists think your ignorance has so much public support, start wearing your hoods out in public.

I think we should deport people who can't write properly.

American Indians aren't native to America, they migrated here from the same place everyone else did. Some confuss Immigration with Illegal Immigration. If your in the USA Illegally then this law is for you. Go Home and protest in your own country.

The REAL issue here is this – immigration is a FEDERAL problem and neither republicans or democrats (who have promised to do something about it) have made any real attempt at reform; the reasons are simple.... most of the country wants stronger immigration rules but if they enforce stronger immigration rules they lose potential voters; those potential voters want more lax immigration rules but if they loosen immigration rules they upset the rest of the country who wanted stricter rules.

Personally I think that most of the issue is financial - people think that illegal immigrants don't pay taxes and are taking advantage of services that were designed to help citizens in need. So – allow for non-citizens to work in the US and enforce income taxation as strictly as possible even on illegal immigrants. This will reduce some of the desire to work in the US because we all know how much of our hard earned money Uncle Sam likes to pocket and it will ensure that people working in the US (regardless of status) pay their fair share of the tax burden.

CAN WE DEPORT HIM NOW? THIS ISSUE IS LAUGHABLE - THE BILL CLEARLY ONLY ALLOWS FOR IMMIGRATION QUESTIONING AFTER LEGAL CONTACT. THAT MEANS YOU HAVE TO BREAK A LAW FIRST YOU IDIOT LEFTISTS.

      Funny – LOL
being and illegal is braking the law. So if they suspect you are her illegally they can legally question you and determine if you can prove you are here legally or are breaking the law (we call these people "criminals"). So if you look like an illegal immigrant you are a suspect and can be questioned.

But it does not matter – just an interruption in your schedule. They drive you to the border. You walk or hitch a ride back home, take a greyhound bus if you like and in two days your back.

      If is annoying though.

To all of you saying "they should go to the back of the line and get legal," all I have to say is your level of ignorance is unmeasurable. The current immigration laws do not allow immigrants to apply for legal status UNLESS you have immediate relatives who sponsor you?
How are all these hard-working people going to apply for citizenship when the opportunity is not even there?
These aren't criminals, these aren't illegals, these are people looking for a better future... America have compassion and show your support for a just Immigration Reform.
