Official: 'Too early' to call Times Square a terror incident

It is too early to tell whether the incident in New York's Times Square was a terror incident involving al Qaeda or another terror network, a federal official briefed on the situation told CNN early Sunday.

The investigation by the New York police "just started," the official said.

The official cautioned that connecting any dots this soon will get "way ahead" of the investigation.

But based on the preliminary investigation, the official downplayed the impact of the car bomb, saying, "if it was real, it didn't work."

A second federal official also said there are no clear indicators that this is international terrorism.

All can rest assured that Janet Napolitano is on the case.

While I didn't care for his style, I suspect Joseph has the right idea. The bomb was intended to wreak havoc outside Viacom in retribution for South Park Muhammad. Apparently, you're not suppose to depict the Islamic Invisible Sky Wizard in any form. Comedy Central was threatened by a group of American Islamic zealots soon after the episode aired. If I remember correctly, they were based in Brooklyn. This was too amateurish to be an al Qaeda attack. When the FBI makes a bust, don't be surprised if it's in Flatbush.

It is Islamic terrorism. The more our government appeases these aggressors the more they will come at us. They take comfort from the coward above, Jonas Nielsen, who would throw Israel under a bus to save his own skin. Cowards die 1000 deaths, brave men die but once. Time to confront these Islamic imperialists head on.

I think this is just a test. A planned exercise to simulate response efforts in the event of a terrorist threat. If they told everyone it was a test, the authorities would not have been able to handle the threat as if it were real.

I too was surprised with they took so long to consider the Fort Hood massacre terrorism. Home grown or not, when one sets out to destroy innocent human lives and mass destruction based on their own agenda, it's "terrorism". The dictionary defines Terrorism as: "The unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or governments, often for ideological or political reasons." It's easy to speculate and be Monday morning quarter backs and criticize, but I have to say how proud I am of that street vendor, witnesses and the combined efforts of our police, state and federal investigators that this man was caught before he had the chance to leave the country. Foiled again Terrorists! Proud to be an American!!

If now the american people do not wake up to the fact that the terrorists are walking among us on our soil than ther is nothing that will keep us safe any more. We can not live in fear so we need to become vigilanties and protectors of our homeland counttry and people. We can not expect our soldiers only to this dirty job for us but we need as a country united (all Americans) to serve our country the service it requires to keep it safe. This is a melting pot and freedom of rights but when it boils down to anyone with the intentions or tries to destroy the perfect harmony of this country should be stripped off all rights and served judment accordingly and swiftly. But please without any intrusion from any AMERICAN CITIZEN to find loop holes to save the criminal. All foreign countries claim they have citizens rights but as we all know there is no such thing and judgement is passed based on what they want to( an eye for an eye) so why not here specially for traitors of this country.
