Picasso's “Nude, Green Leaves and Bust”
A Pablo Picasso painting fetched $106.5 million at auction Tuesday, a record for any single work of art, Christie's New York announced.
The bidding for the painting – “Nude, Green Leaves and Bust” – lasted nine minutes. Eight clients competed for the painting and it was eventually sold to an unidentified telephone bidder, Christie’s said.
The previous record was an Alberto Giacometti sculpture that sold for $104.3 in February. It, too, was bought by an anonymous bidder. The auction occurred at Sotheby’s in London.

They bid on a legend not a painting. Picasso's art in my eyes is garbage, certainly not in the same class as say the late 19th century impressionists. But then again, Britney Spears is a rich woman, just goes to show people will throw enormous sums of money at anything
I actually don't like any of Picasso's paintings. I hate them, I think that even a kid can do the same... and maybe even better. But hey! I'm not the one who'll buy that so... whatever. If Daddy Yankee has money with that "so-called" music, why not Picasso?
I wish I owned it and I was at the receiving end of this $UM. I thought no one had this amount of money anymore.

Look at the work Picasso was doing when he was 12 and tell me you or your kid could do it. Picasso was painting photo-realistic pieces by the time you would have been hitting puberty. He chose to paint the way he did b/c he was tired of towing the line. Crack open a book and learn something.

Wow it is amazing the level o fstupidity I'm reading here. You are putting Picasso in context with todays art and you are ignoring what it represents. At the time cubism was breaking down conventional art and furthering human artistic expression. His art is actually quite complex if you study it, Picasso wass a classically trained artist, and a genius, he was painting better than most people would ever paint and doing it at an early age, Try looking at other periods of his art before just acting like a child and saying a kid could paint it. New ways of looking at things and this style of painting was a shock to art in the world. If you think art is just about looking at something pleasing then just buy your ducks landing on a pond and stay in your closed minded world, Try thinking in an abstract way...
This kind of spending is obscene when good people are out there suffering. Sickening.

All of you saying his work sucks are stupid. You don't know anything. He painted the one thing from different angles. Yeah, I'd like to see your "kid" or "dog" come up with something like that. Heck, I doubt they could even think to do something like that considering YOU don't even know what your looking at. I feel bad for you.
Picasso did what other artist only dream of. He created a new art form that was, and is still coppied today by thousands of artists across the world. He is virtually a god to we that know.
ive seen better pictures painted by fifth graders,but who iam i ? i couldn't afford to buy a copy of a copy.
