[Update 8:28 p.m. ET] The plane, which was coming from Hong Kong, landed safely in Vancouver at 1:35 p.m. PT (4:35 p.m. ET), said Alisa Gloag, a spokeswoman for the Vancouver Airport Authority.
Passengers were deplaned and the aircraft was being towed to another area for inspection, said Gloag, who did not have information about how the threat was reported.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police is investigating, Gloag said.
[Posted 8:09 p.m. ET] Two CF-18 Hornets were scrambled from a Canadian military base Saturday to escort a Cathay Pacific Airways flight into Vancouver's airport, according to an official with the North American Aerospace Defense Command.
The action was taken in response to a "potential threat" to the flight, Maj. Holly Apostoliuk of NORAD told CNN.
The plane was escorted to the airport and directed to a restricted area.
No further details were immediately available.

Well, I'm not from America and we're not used to stupid stuff like that. It's only US foreign policy that puts everyone at risk for tolerating injustices around the world and creating "terrorists" who are actually fighting for those who cannot fight for themselves. It sucks and we will never get used to a world that the US has created, with its corporate greed, decadence and indifference to human suffering in the Middle East and elsewhere. Americans only have themselves to blame for such a world.
there's cf-18s in comox right now - They have been here for at least a few weeks - we can hear them flying overhead all the time. They usually come from alberta for a month or two each spring/summer for training.
I still don't see the point though. If the plane did have a bomb in it.. what could the cf-18s do? blow it up again?
I've been on that Cathay flight many times myself. Shoot it down, Chui? What a jerk! It's too bad that someone felt the need to phone in a bomb scare, but great that everything is okay.
There are no CF-18s stationed at CFB Comox, but they sometimes go there on training missions. They would have most likely come from CFB Cold Lake, which is less than 2 hours from Vancouver at not even full speed. CF-18s get scrambled more often than anyone might think – Russian bombers often skirt Canadian airspace, as a show of force.
