First photo of Times Square bombing suspect since arrest

Faisal Shahzad was arrested in connection with an attempted bombing in Times Square.

[Updated at 10:51 a.m.] CNN's Susan Candiotti has obtained Faisal Shahzad's mugshot, which is the first new photo of the attempted Times Square bomber, since he was arrested for his association with the plot in Manhattan.

The photo was taken after Faisal Shahzad was formally placed in the custody of the U.S. Marshals on Wednesday. He’s shown wearing a grey sweatshirt — the same clothes he wore in court. Unlike earlier photos taken before he was arrested, he now has a slight beard.

[Posted at 10:40 a.m.] Attempted Times Square bombing suspect Faisal Shahzad is being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in lower Manhattan, a federal law enforcement official told CNN.

He looks a little like Eddie Munster.

I wonder if Macy Gray would agree to follow him around for the rest of his life, narrating his every action in her singing voice. That would be the ultimate punishment.

It is interesting to me that the first picture–because it showed another side of him that negated our "terrorist label," it is like we are searching for the perfect criminal picture. This is just evidence that we continue to look for racist markers of deviance in photographs, though we know that all humans are flawed, sinners. Quite frankly, there is no profile for any sinner–no matter how violent and volatile.

Wow! Reading these post I almost thought I was on Fox News. It is easy to get caught up on his race. But the main issues of this case are that he was a failed person, angry and not very bright. We need to prosecute him in a public court of law and show the world how we deal with criminals. It scares me to see so many of the people who posted on this site sound like extremist. Terrorist are extremists, we need to be moderate. Not all people with beards and dark skin are terrorists (I am a white guy, by the way). When people focus on how he looks and not why he planned the attack, we are moving away from the issue.

"I'd like to smash him in his pa-paki face. Pa-pa-pa-paki, pa-pa-pa- paki face. Pa-pa-pa-paki, pa-pa-pa-paki face."

Maybe Lady GaGa can write a song about him?
