9 killed in suspected U.S. drone strike in Pakistan

Nine people were killed Friday night when a suspected U.S. drone struck in Pakistan's North Waziristan near the border with Afghanistan, two local officials said.

The dead consisted of two children, two women and five men, Pakistani intelligence and administrative officials said.

The U.S. military routinely offers no comment on reported drone attacks. However, it is the only country operating in the region known to have the ability to launch missiles from drones, which are controlled remotely.

In War, people die. Some of those people are innocent. When the terrorists stop waging their silly, childish war on the rest of the people in this world who do not share their religious beliefs, then the killing will stop.

What amazes me the MOST is that the world's most prominent Muslim leader to this day, do not step forward and renounce the actions of terroriists. That's why this religion is WRONG. So VERY VERY WRONG. The Muslim religion is one that is filled with HATE. Muhammad believed in salvation by murder. He is greatest criminal the world has ever seen in the history of man.

@ TheDudeAbides – What amazes me is how ignorant you are. Muslim leaders the world over and the particularly in the US have been doing just that for the past 10 years. Indeed there was a well publicized case of a scholar publishing a doctrinal paper in the UK on just that subject. The problem though is that you hate Muslims because of something you've heard, and the rest you've conjured up. The religion is not so very wrong, your perception of it is. The religion is full of compassion and mercy. Did you know that at the time when Jews were persecuted by the christians of Europe they found refuge in the Muslim world? Salvation by murder has never been allowed in Islam...where do you get this're so blinded by hate you'll believe anything at this very sad.

Be Me brings up a few good points but is combining facts about history and the current fight in Afghanistan and, in the end, comes off as emotional to the point of hysteria.

I don't believe that Afghan or Pakistan ever report accurately the number of civilians killed. The numbers are rarely independently verified. They intentionally inflate the number of "civilians" and "children" killed. That is an absolute fact...verified by the sacred NYT.

Most importantly, these terrorists use their families as shields. Where is the hysteria and emotion towards them? If we blow up their home / hideout and they chose to keep their families in those homes, why are you not outraged at them? Why not point your unemployment and/or dead-end life troubles and anger at their obvious calculation to kill their own families.

Killing innocent people..." , children, the elderly, the infirm who can't run and hide, those who don't believe as they do are arbitrarily killed, just going about trying to live their lives, as difficult as it is amid the poverty and filth and disease, these terrorists use helpless children as human bombs, pregnant women as carriers of explosives, these people you refer to Haider, are the most ruthless, hateful, un-principled monsters, and they do this hiding behind false and perverted religious beliefs and to what end? To make all people live in a world dominated by fanatics without a cause except to take civilization back to the stone age of ignorance: education would destroy their empire from within, without and beneath them. Haider, go for it, just correct the subject.

I am astounded at the short-sightedness of many of the commenters here. For one thing, killing women and children does not 'wipe out future terrorists.' It MAKES terrorists. If your mother or children were killed, would you be more or less likely to devote your life to killing people from the country that sent robots into the air above your home to do the killings? Of course we have a right to defend ourselves. But the best defense is to change our policies so that we aren't hated. The US should act like a benign citizen of the planet, not an empire. Not relying on oil from the Middle East (or anywhere – we have the technology to move past oil if it's supported) would be a huge step which would allow us to do so.

Let me go back a little bit. First of all killing innocent civilians and children is not acceptable in any religion. The question is why do terrorist do what they do? Why they have so much hatred?. Is it justifiable for a super power to invade a country, just because they could. Did United Nations approve the war in Afghanistan and Iraq.? Hundred and thousands of civilians and children in Iraq and Afghanistan are killed because of a wrong war. Please tell me what is their crime. Why can't their children play in the play groud like our kids in the US. Why they are denied clean drinking water?. Why people live in fear day in and day out in these countries. Do we have the right to walk into some one home, throw them out of their own house and then start living there and not letting the landlord even come close by? Injustice may be one reason why some are turning into terrorists? As far as 9/11 is concerned , there are a lot of conspiracy theories. Please tell me who benefitted from it? If you just go by media, they are degrading muslims. You have to read and look beyond your TV. You have to analyze the problems around you and beyond. I am a peace loving person and condemn all acts of aggression, terrorism and invasion. I believe in religious pluralism. We should respect each other and should be tolerant to each other. People who are using foul language , please lets be respectful

As an American Pastor of a Christian church, i have to say it is disappointing to see the misunderstood hate that is being spewed against people against other people here. How can you desensitize yourself to the deaths of children. It is easy to sit behind a computer screen and say these things, but try putting yourself in a situation where you have to sit face to face with these children and say they don't deserve to live. In addition, it is always good to make your opinions informed. The truth is most terrorists are born after seeing images of their own families being wrongfully persecuted.

I totally agree with you but, a slight correction in your sentence structure, Salayem, you omitted a subject:" the Muslim terrorists" (correction mine) usually target weddings AND funerals, crowded markets, schools, hospitals, convoys carrying food, fathers, husbands and brothers trying to protect their families, so while trying to kill the soldiers trying to protect these helpless civilians, they plant IEDs, timed so the ambulances and aid workers and the people trying to staunch the blood are added to the carnage. You see, salayem, in the English language, omitting a subject makes the sentence confusing to understand as to whom you are referring to as being the source of this monstrous non-human, arbitrary destruction: I do hope my slight correction clarifies the object of your hatred, or should I say self-hatred.

      Alex – from the Quran:

For the Unbelievers are unto you open enemies (4:101)

O ye who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians for friends. They are friends one to another. He among you who taketh them for friends is (one) of them. Lo! Allah guideth not wrongdoing folk. (5:51)

O ye who believe! Fight those of the disbelievers who are near to you, and let them find harshness in you, and know that Allah is with those who keep their duty. (9:123)

The true believers of Islam seek global domination. It is not about anything the USA did or did not do. It is not about Israel or the Palestinians. It is about Muhammad's teachings and the people who have been brainwashed to believe such nonsense.

If they are such wonderful compassionate people, why on earth would they choose to bring their "loved one's" into the line of fire? Can you answer that with some unrelated, bigoted quote from the Quran?

Pakistan, can you please separate your terrorists. Also, if the Lord wanted Americans and disbelievers all dead, why is he taking so long to get the job done. Trust me, that's the best line anyone ever wrote to the 17-virgin society. So, Pakistan, Iran and Iraq......again separate your terrorists......we will always be there until you do.....Always. My deepest apologies however to any innocent people killed. You big men, hiding behind your women. Wow, epitome of a coward.

Yup, it's awful that these terrorists use human shields. There's an easy solution: Don't be a human shield. These men aren't secret agents. It's not like you don't know that the man is a religious extremist. If you get in the car with a man who builds IEDs or commands Al Queda's men, you have no claim to innocence. You are being used as death deterrent. If the target is of high enough value, you and your family are going to eat it.

    Don't be a human shield.

When did the US declare war on Pakistan? Oh yeah, I forgot that US Presidents now have unlimited power to do what they want in the world, kill whomever they please and bomb indiscrimnately without authorization from anyone. And to all of you that support these actions, ever hear of the term blowback? Surely, killing innocent people has consequences.

Whatever it takes to keep the US safe. I am all for it. 70% of the terrorist attacks on the US (not to mention India) have came from Pakistan.

actually, pakistan government strongly supports these types of drone attacks privately (just google/research urself). otherwise u would have much louder complaints from islamabad. in fact, pakistan and us are partnering extensively (intel/mil) more than they publicize.

That's right. Because of 911 there will continue to be blow-backs on the terrorists wherever they hide. Even East Pakistan and Afghanistan. The problem with you Todd is you only see it one way.

then why do you kill your own innocent muslim women and children?

It certainly does TODD, this is 'blowback' for them killing 3000+ innocent Americans, among other nationalities. Is suppose you think the attempted bombing of Times Square last week was justified?

It's been made clear MANY times that these Muslim terrorists are hiding in so-called "lawless" tribal areas near Pakistan so if the Pakistanis cannot or will not enforce law on these barbarians, then the drones WILL. They supported and harbored fellow terrorists in using planes against innocent civilians in America so how fitting and just that they themselves are now being terrorized by planes tracking and then dropping Hellcat missiles from above onto their heads. Muslims DO NOT understand reason. They DO understand overwhelming force.

How exactly were the Pakistani people involved with that? Or are they retaliating for us invading Afghanistan? Action, reaction, action, reaction. The cycle will continue until an adult stands up and does the right thing.

@Todd. You moron, the Pakistanis are hiding Bid Laden in the mountains, thats what his drone attack is all about, we've been doing this Pakisan for the last couple years. This has everything to do with 911. Your niave if you dont think Pakistani Talban need to be dismanlted. If you think his effort is so misguided, why dont you blame your pal Obama for initiating it.

@Eric, do you have actionable intelligence to back that statement up? I doubt it. I doubt that you have even carried out American foreign policy at the point of a gun, either. All of you gas bags that are talking tough about killing innocent men, women and children ought to try it. It is not as easy as the movies make it out to be.

Me, I had enough of it and resigned my comission in the US Army.
