Priest accused of having 'erotic dungeon' surrenders

[Updated 12:15 p.m. ET]  A Polish-born priest accused of sexually abusing minors in his parochial residence in the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has turned himself in, state officials said Saturday.

State security officials said Marcin Michal Strachanowski, 44, surrendered to authorities Friday night in the village of Realengo.

State Civil Police had issued a "preventative arrest" warrant against Strachanowski on Thursday. The priest is accused of handcuffing a minor in 2006 and forcing him to perform sexual acts at his home in the Divino Espirito Santo church in Rio de Janeiro's west zone, the officials said.

In a press statement, the Rio de Janeiro archdiocese said it has suspended Strachanowski from his duties and that in addition to the criminal inquiry, the church has called on a ecclesiastic tribunal to oversee a canonical trial.

"The archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro laments the incident, especially for the people involved, especially for the possible victims, and clarifies that the mentioned clergyman already finds himself suspended of his parochial functions," the statement said.

According to Brazil's Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper, the priest could not be found Friday morning.

The newspaper reported that a 16-year old alleged victim told investigators that after being frequently raped by the priest, he was forced to remain silent and was threatened regularly.

Citing court statements, the newspaper reported that criminal Judge Alexandre Abrahao Dias Teixeira said police investigations revealed the profile of a man with a "compulsive attraction to having sex with adolescents" and that he had allegedly turned his parish residence into an "erotic dungeon" where he forced boys to have sex with him.

So after years of the Catholic clergy committing henious crimes against children – why have they not been shut down. No – instead the organization enjoys a tax exempt status – at least in the US they do.

RCC is 1 billion and worldwide, so it appears they are riddled with this problem but even one is a major probnlem. In fact, too many Christian churches have had a lot of problems with this but they are all independent and not unified under one head church. The stats have been done and actually there are more problems in all other Chirstian churches combined than the whole RCC and the RCC is bigger.

I agree w/ Mtka. I've always been astonished, that...when someone invents a religion, there's always a thousand or more people waiting to follow it. BIZARRE. And, Catholics get tax exempt status, when they are one of the most powerful polictical groups on earth.

      One more from Mein Kampf:

"The folkish-minded man, in particular, has the sacred duty, each in his own denomination, of making people stop just talking superficially of God's will, and actually fulfill God's will, and not let God's word be desecrated. For God's will gave men their form, their essence and their abilities. Anyone who destroys His work is declaring war on the Lord's creation, the divine will.["

Hitler was trying to kill everyone who was not "pure race" and Mein Kampf was written before the final solution where he became godless – nice try Keith – keep trying.

Tom, you sound incredibly ignorant, arrogant and self-righteous. The mere mention that you say we atheists will burn in hell because we don't believe what you do and won't read the bible, proves you are intolerant. Religion is a source of mass pain and misguidance to unfortunate human beings.

All religions are false, all prophets are false. And if it all did exist, I would rather be in hell on my own than in heaven with an intolerant spiteful piece of ignorant crap like you.

Also this comment likening atheists to Hitler is hugely offensive and hugely wrong in both logic and reasoning. I am atheist, I have Jewish friends and I love them. I have Muslim friends and I love them I have Christian, Mormon, agnostic and other atheist friends and I love them. The people I hate are people like you who tell everyone else they are wrong because they don't think like you. You Tom, are far more similar to Hitler than me or any of my friends and fellow atheists. Also you fail to know that Hitler used religion, Christian ideals, among others, to gain momentum early on in his public and political realm to insight his hate for the Jews and eventually moved towards his megalomaniacal self obsessed vision of Germany.

You are intolerant, hateful and full of yourself.

Ryan – thanks for clarifying how you feel about me because I echo your thoughts on how I feel about these atheists on this forum who attack religion and disrespect God and Christ. Yes, some atheists on here believe in respecting all but I am not talking about or addressing them. Specifically, there is a group of people that love to comment on stories about religion that are atheist and also liberal. I will never pass be a stupid comment made by one of these people. So all you other atheists here that do respect others – calm down. Also, Tom is a very common name and so many comments on here were not even mine. Bottomline – any person claiming that religion should be done away with and then make a blasphemous comment about God – ok , you bet – I'm intolerant of that but not hateful, many folks just do not like to hear the truth. It's funny too ho Christians get called intolerant for defending the faith when it is a certain group of atheists that seem to be intolerant.

@eduardo60. To desire to be worshiped is not imperfection at your creator. You're thinking inside the box buddy. God is not some guy down the street. And what did he lie about? He has clearly warned us regarding evil in this world. He has clearly has warned us regarding the inequalities in this world. And he has clearly told us what we need to do to gain eternal happiness. Sure it may seem unfair but this is life and this is what he has commanded of us. Listen, there are many is not countless rules and regulations created by MAN that you and I follow daily. And thank GOD many of these rules have no bearing on weather we enter heaven or hell. YET we follow them. WHY? Because we dont want to be punished OR because we want to live a good life. So why is it so hard to believe that GOD has rules TOO. Rules that are much more important than mans. Yet we ignore his rules and follow only mans. Get good grades get into college get a great job. Dont wear your uniform at work get fired. Dont pay taxes go to jail. Call someone a name get punched in the face. GET REAL. There are consequences for all our actions. Your consequences with GOD will be dealt when you close your eyes forever. I want you to think about what you said earlier about what you would say to GOD a little more. Life is too short to come to that conclusion.

Tom–Hitler was not an atheist! He was an alter boy...he hated the Jews because they killed Jesus. You just blew all your credibility! The Catholic Church used to throw birthday parties for him. You don't read the bible or history books...what do you do?

I will assume you do not read anything of substantiative value. Regardless of ho one is raised, they become thier own person. Hitler and Hirohito wanted to rule the wolrd and no religion and believed in no God. Please educate yourself.

      Hitler was not Athiest.

Hitler stated in a speech to the Stuttgart February 15, 1933: "Today they say that Christianity is in danger, that the Catholic faith is threatened. My reply to them is: for the time being, Christians and not international atheists are now standing at Germany’s fore. I am not merely talking about Christianity; I confess that I will never ally myself with the parties which aim to destroy Christianity. Fourteen years they have gone arm in arm with atheism. At no time was greater damage ever done to Christianity than in those years when the Christian parties ruled side by side with those who denied the very existence of God. Germany's entire cultural life was shattered and contaminated in this period. It shall be our task to burn out these manifestations of degeneracy in literature, theater, schools, and the press—that is, in our entire culture—and to eliminate the poison which has been permeating every facet of our lives for these past fourteen years."

NoTimeTom: Tom is an idiot. He's trying to say that hitler was an atheist to disassociate his religion fm hitler. i would say, "nice try", but it wasn't. it sucked. tom, you're an idiot, but you're an obedient idiot: you're doing JUST what your religion tells you to do. you're denying anything negative associated w/your religion and projecting those negatives on anything and anyone else, regardless of their BS. hitler was christian, albeit, a 'bad' one. he wasn't an atheist and you know it. if you need to BS to try and make your point...then your point is BS and no good.

What's up with all of the labels? It's really easy to classify people into groups when you have never met them and don't know them. The faceless groups of people that we can blame all of our problems on.

Actually Jesus came to free us from the bonds of religion. The electrical life in us is what we are. Unfortunately our bodies and mostly our minds were seeded by little snakes called sperm. This snake enters into this life chain and brings about weeds of oppression within the human race. Satan is an expert on religion. It's his nest and once we enter into this domain we become controlled to do his will. Only true salvation by the life we are can set us free. But the contaminated body and mind will have to be tossed. It can not enter the true kingdom of God.

Built-in control mechanisms, unquestionable authority. What a scam. Maybe, as a species, we'll wake up someday and smell the stink.
