Washington train station evacuated

Authorities evacuated Union Station, the main train terminal in Washington, D.C., on Sunday afternoon due to a chemical odor from an equipment closet, according to a spokesman for the D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department.

The odor, described as smelling like sulfur or natural gas, was believed to come from an area where batteries and other equipment is stored, said fire department spokesman Peter Piringer.

A hazardous materials response team was on the scene, Piringer said. No injuries were reported, but authorities decided to evacuate the entire station as a precaution.

An Amtrak spokesman said all rail traffic in and out of the station was temporarily suspended due to the evacuation.  Subway service continued to operate, but trains were not stopping at Union Station, according to the Washington Metro Area Transit Authority.

Any one ever charged a car battery? It makes Sulfer DiOxide. This gas is explossive. This also stinks like rotten eggs. Proper ventalation should have prevented any gas build up. Obviously something wasnt working quite right.

Americans want it every way. We complain about paranoia, but want security so tight we make the KGB look boy scouts. We want little government and lower taxes, but want to complain when the government lets BP try to fix their own mistake. Business wants a free market and protection of government, but complains if they have to pay for it. We are a lazy, self-centered, greedy population and deserves what happens to us. As far as I'm concerned, the attack on 9-11-01 was an unqualified success and has brought us to our knees. Almost ten years later we are still scared of our shadow. We've just about surrendered all of our freedom and can't think critically enough to realize how much damage we've done to our own country. We are mad and are destroying our own country in our anger.

I always knew those station employees were terrorists, round them up, ship them out and waterboard them until they tell us where bin laden is.

You gotta watch everywhere now where theirs crowds, these terrorists main goal is to kill American citizens and they wont stop short of attacking subways, airports, sports arenas, even a busy street, we need to be as vigilent as possible right now, especially since its memorial day weekend and then around the 4th of july. This is unfortunate to be said, but its true, we need to stay vigilent as citizens in order to protect ourselves and others
