Gaza flotilla - Turkey is dispatching three planes to bring back 20 citizens injured in the raid on a flotilla carrying humanitarian goods to Gaza, according to the Turkish Prime Minister's Web site. Read the full story
Air France crash – Tuesday marks the one-year anniversary of the crash of Air France Flight 447. The Airbus A330-200 crashed into the Atlantic ocean, killing 228 people, as it headed from Brazil to France. A series of ceremonies will take place in Paris on Tuesday, and a Mass has been held in Rio de Janeiro. Read the full story
Gulf oil spill - President Barack Obama will meet Tuesday with the heads of a new commission created to investigate how to prevent future oil spills like the devastating leak from BP's Gulf of Mexico well. Read the full story
Japan whaling - Australia has asked the International Court of Justice in The Hague to weigh in on Japan's whaling activities in the Antarctic. Japan calls the move "regrettable." But Australia says it's a necessary step in order to prevent the slaughter of whales in the name of science. Read the full story
Afghanistan fighting – U.S. and Afghan troops have secured a district of Nuristan province in Afghanistan in operation to quell an uprising of insurgents, NATO and Afghan officials say.
