[Updated at 1:13 p.m.] Joran van der Sloot has been arrested and is in police custody in Santiago, Chile, an Interpol spokesperson in Santiago told CNN.
Van der Sloot, who was previously considered a suspect in the 2005 disappearance of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway in Aruba, is the main suspect in this week's slaying of 21-year-old Stephany Flores Ramirez, officials said. She was was found Wednesday in a Lima, Peru, hotel room registered to van der Sloot. Chilean police told CNN that paperwork showed that van der Sloot entered Chile on Wednesday.
Peruvian Interior Minister Octavio Salazar Miranda said Thursday that Peru has made arrangements with Interpol to extradite van der Sloot.
[Updated at 12:33 p.m.] Chilean investigators have told CNN Chile that Joran van der Sloot was spotted in Arica, Chile, near the Peruvian border and they believe he may still be there.
[Posted at 11:59 a.m.] Peruvian authorities investigating a young woman's slaying this week are working with officials from Interpol, Chile, Argentina and Colombia in the search for Joran van der Sloot, a Dutch man previously considered a suspect in the 2005 disappearance of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway, the Peruvian justice minister said Thursday.
There is "incriminating evidence" linking van der Sloot to the killing of 21-year-old Stephany Flores Ramirez, who was found with multiple stab wounds in a Lima hotel room Wednesday, Cesar Guardia Vasquez, of Chile Interpol's criminal investigations unit, said at a news conference.
The hotel room where Flores was found was registered in van der Sloot's name, he said.
A hotel guest and an employee witnessed the pair entering the hotel room together at 5 a.m. on Sunday, Guardia said.
Police have video of the previous night, May 29, of van der Sloot and Flores together at the Atlantic City Casino in Lima, he said.
According to immigration officials, van der Sloot fled to Chile over land on Monday, Guardia said.
"We have all the evidence to show that the killer is this man," the victim's father, businessman and race-car driver Ricardo Flores told CNN en Español.

Some of you apparently missed the news. Van Der Sloot admitted to killing Holloway, there is no mystery of what happened to her. He admitted she died on the beach and sent her body out in the ocean. Of course it was a hidden camera in a cab recording his confession of the story so it's not admissible in court. But there is no mystery, he did it. Hopefully he dies a horrible death.
If I remember correct the hidden camera action was adeal between with Joran and a friend of him, they made a deal and fooled Hollands dumbest tv reporter Peter R de Vries in buying there story. So if they made a lot of money with the story how do you know for sure he really confessed??

From what I hear about Peruvian prison, it wouldn't surprise me if he DID kill himself. I'm sure this will end up just like Ryan Jenkins – who murdered that model Jasmine Fiore – and then hung himself in some hotel when he realized cops were looking for him. He's obviously either a) hiding out somewhere right now, just waiting.... or b) running, from place to place... or c) already dead. I think those are the only options at this point.
Either way justice WILL be served. Whether he kills himself, whether he spends the rest of his life in a Peruvian jail, or whether the guys in the jail kill him (lol), he'll get what he deserves....

I hope they capture the SOB alive and bring him to justice. It does bother me that he would be tried in one of the most corrupt legal systems in the world (Peru) and could still pay his way out of this(the same way drug dealers and terrorist do in Peru on a regular basis). Hope this means that he can be brought to justice for the Natalie Holloway case in light of this new murder.
What I don't understand is the difference between what CNN is reporting and what is in the Latin American news. In Peru the reports say the body was found bruised and with a broken neck. CNN keeps reporting on multiple stab wounds. The coroner has rulled she was beaten to death. There are also other minor details that are inacurate that makes me think CNN does not care at all about reporting the whole truth about something like this. Is like they believe acuracy is just minor details they do not need to bether with.
What makes you think CNN is the wrong one? There have been multiple reports of a blood-spattered room, which is more on the lines of "multiple stab wounds" rather than bruises and a broken neck.
The reports coming from Peru and the interview with the coroner do not talk about a blood spattered room. I think CNN is not double checking or at least not updating as more details come to light. Just because all the other reporters are saying all kinds of things about the case doesn't mean one does not have to do good reporting.
Go to Fox and stop whinning. You guys always complain about CNN but you keep coming back and read your news from them. Oh I forgot Fox news is not a news organization. Judging that the Netherlands is both a crackhouse and a brothel that practices situational ethics and encourages "do what ever you want" I am not surprised it created Vander Sloot and the vermin that is is father. A nice Peruvian prison would serve him well. Hopefully he will be the "girlfriend" of a nice 250 pound "animal". That would be better than execution.

Glad they caught him, hope they keep him there. And the Dutch government didn't pull any favours, there was a lot of corruption going on even before the whole Joran incident in the Aruban system, but again, no evidence no justice. Besides that, I wonder if there is a corruption free system anywhere, where there's money there's power... and power brings out the worst in people it seems... And I really hope they have something like DNA this time.

I am VERY pleased that he is in custody, and of course concerned that he will be able to buy his way out of this and kill again. HOW many women has he killed and gone un-noticed – Thailand, Netherlands ???? Let's all pray he gets locked up for life and has to suffer throughout the rest of his life for what he has done !!!!
