Drosselmeyer wins Belmont Stakes

Drosselmeyer, with veteran jockey Mike Smith aboard, won Saturday's Belmont Stakes in New York.

The horse did not qualify for the Kentucky Derby. But its owner, WinStar Farms, also owns derby winner Super Saver.

Fly Down finished second, First Dude was third.

Ice Box, the favorite at 9-5, finished sixth. Drosselmeyer went off at 13-1.

The Thoroghbred Retirement Association does an admirable job of finding homes for retired racehorses. If you are a fan of horseracinjg, you should make a donation to them. We fans of the sport need to accept responsibility for these great animals when their racing time is over. We run a boarding and training operation in Central Virginia and we have several former racehorses here that are used as pleasure horses, jumpers and eventers. If we treat the retired racers with respect, then the PETA kooks will have less to complain about (not that we'll ever shut them up completely).
