Obama: Oil in Gulf is an 'unprecedented environmental disaster'

President Barack Obama said Tuesday that the Gulf oil spill "is an unprecedented environmental disaster" that will be met with an "unprecedented response."

"This is an assault on our shores and we're going to fight back with everything we've got," he said during a visit with military personnel at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida.

The administration "will do whatever it takes for as long as it takes" to deal with the spill, he promised.

Obama repeated a pledge to force BP to provide economic compensation for the economic damage caused by the spill.

If you want BP to pay for it then do this. Make every BP gas station have gas for $1 a gallon, that way the money goes straight to the people not the president's pocket. Gov. Huckabee said it best "We had Ronald Reagan who was an actor that became president, now we have a president who wants to be an actor." I'm even in the Navy and I know that this is not how a leader should be.

how is minimizing gas for a dollar fighting back is that going to clean up this big mess, HELL NO!!So stop bashing the president for this mess!! Reagan didn't have the mess Pres.Obama has to clean up! Yes, I agree there should be some kind of reprimand, but Pres.Obama did not cause this whole mess! Let's start holding those accountable that are responsiable for this CRAP!!!

The mistake we citizens make is trusting our government to protect us from such things. I think this disaster should remind us that the people in government are a bunch of lying, money grubbing, egotistical do nothings. They no longer put our country or our best interest first (or second or third). I'm sick of it myself. I no longer have ANY confidence in ANYONE in government. I love this country and would defend it with my life, but something has to change.
