Shahzad pleads guilty to Times Square charges

Faisal Shahzad, a suspect in the May 1 failed Times Square bombing attempt,
entered pleas of guilty Monday in federal court, an administration official
told CNN.

An administration official said a plea deal was negotiated beforehand, and
Shahzad entered guilty pleas to each of the 10 counts against him. This source, a White House legal source, said President Obama was made aware of the negotiations.

      Would he be guiltier if we had waterboarded him?

      Well, it actually costs you (and me) less than the death penalty due to the lengthy appeals process. Sorry to add facts to your rant.

    Wait I've seen this episode before... I think he recants later saying his rights were violated or something, and was pressured into pleading guilty. Boring reruns.

    @Steve-O
    The plea deal is standard for all criminal cases, and is used as to avoid a lengthy and costly trial. Do you know ANYTHING about legal proceedings whatsoever? This is all standard operating procedure.... Sheesh, please get a clue.

    "Gets to eat"
    Yeah...we have to feed him. Alternative? Costs more to execute someone than to imprison them, and by a pretty wide margin. Unless that has changed, I would rather throw him in supermax and forget about him then spend more money to make a martyr out of hiim.

    i swear our country used to live by a rule that went something like "The United States does NOT negotiate with terrorist."

      Actually I goes more like " The United States does NOT negotiate with terrorist demands." Funny little loophole ain't it. The US can negotiate with terrorists as long as it benefits us to use them to terrorize countries we don't like. But instead of terrorists we like to refer to them as mercenaries or contractors for hire(Blackwater, anyone?). Funny little world we live in.

  10. just curious

    @flippy: how can an execution possibly cost more than imprisoning for life?

    Before people start critisizing the plea bargain, have you asked yourself how much valuale information the authorities have receieved from the guilty man? Let's at least wait for sentencing before passing judgement on whether the guilty person is getting off lightly.
