[Updated 7:50 a.m.] Gen. Stanley McChrystal has fired a press aide because of a Rolling Stone article in which McChrystal was portrayed as critical of Obama administration officials, two defense officials tell CNN.
[Originally posted 7:41 a.m.] Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the top U.S. military commander in Afghanistan, has been recalled to Washington after making controversial remarks about colleagues in a Rolling Stone article, officials said.
He was summoned to attend a meeting on Afghanistan and Pakistan in person rather than by video conference, a senior administration official said Tuesday.
"He has been recalled to Washington," another official said.
McChrystal apologized Tuesday for the profile, in which the general and his staff appear to mock top civilian officials, including Vice President Joe Biden. The article is set to appear in Friday's edition of Rolling Stone.

Third time never fails. McChrystal should not be allowed to retire. He needs to be treated as he would have treated one of his troops if this would have happened to him. He needs to be dishonorabley discharge. This is a form of mutiny. Guess this generals needs be told because evidently he doesn't already know, that he is no different than each of his troops and need to show his superiors some respect. He needs to have his stars McSlapped off of his shoulders..
THE WORD TRAITOR IS BEING OVERUSED INTENSIVELY HERE. MAKES ONE WONDER!
HAS ANYONE TRIED TO SEARCH IN THE ARCHIVES FOR THE middle NAME OF OBAMA?
THEY WILL FIND THE ANSWER.
Darel, Isn't is just infuriating that people think that everyone in the military is Republican. My son is a Marine and a Democrat, currently stationed in Afghanistan. THE PROBLEM with what the General did is that we ARE in a conflict with some tricky alliances in progress (e.g. the Kandahar offensive). I can't figure out if Gen. McCrystal is just a megalomaniac or just arrogant and stupid. NOT a good time for the lead guy to be publicly fighting his own!
Fire the General!!
