The L.A. Times and KTLA are naming the suspect as Lonnie David Franklin Jr, 51. Aerial footage showed police searching cars in the garage of Franklin's home in south Los Angeles.
Nicknamed for taking long breaks in between attacks, the killer is believed to be responsible for at least 11 deaths since 1985 in south Los Angeles. The killer targets black women, some working as prostitutes, using the same small caliber weapon.

Officials struggled to find new leads partially because the changing makeup of the neighborhood where the crimes were committed makes it unlikely that any possible witnesses are still around. The killer left behind DNA and fingerprints that police were unable to match to a name.
In May, new composite sketches went up on billboards across Los Angeles as police intensified their hunt for the serial killer.

Wow how ignorant! there have been many black serial killers. Look up Terry Blair. In many cases the serial killer kills within their own race because it is a comfort zone. so if you are looking at a string in one race you are likely to find that it is a memeber of that race comitting the crime.

He actaully is black people... although who knows if this commentor knew that before their post. But he is black.
It doesn't say the killer was black, but the composite sketch is of a black man.
It may not say in this article that the killer is black, but if you knew anything about the case you would see that there is a surviving victim, WHICH they linked to the other cases, and SHE said HE WAS A BLACK MAN. I guess she is ignorant and racist for calling him black.
Don't you remember Wayne Williams, the Atlanta, GA serial killer? One reason it took SO long to catch him was because there had never before been a black serial killer in America. The black community couldn't or wouldn't believe a black man would be murdering black kids. Hence, the black community thought it was racially motivated and almo led to many riots. If people only knew how common serial murder is in CA. LOL If you go up hiking in the San Gabriels in the campgrounds up there, you can find signs of them everywhere. I think the only reason law enforcement doesn't say anything about it is because they're probably still looking for all of them and don't want to compromise their cases by leaking it to the media.
