Tea Partiers 'racist'? iReporters sound off

iReporters Jason Asselin, left, and Omekongo Dibinga sound off on the NAACP's recent resolution regarding Tea Partiers.

CNN.com readers and iReporters have had a passionate response to the NAACP’s resolution condemning Tea Partiers for having “racist elements.”

“We take issue with the Tea Party’s continued tolerance for bigotry and bigoted statements. The time has come for them to accept the responsibility that comes with influence and make clear there is no space for racism and anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry in their movement,” NAACP President and CEO Ben Jealous said.

iReporter Omekongo Dibinga posted a video, telling CNN, “If the Tea Party wants to become a credible organization, it has to show leadership when racist acts are committed by its members."

He went on to mention things he believes the Tea Party could do to combat racism: “The Tea Party can also partake in events that promote respect for other groups in a non-reactionary capacity, such as MLK Day events. The Party can also call out individuals by name who commit racist acts.”

Jason Asselin, who has attended some Tea Party events, disagreed, saying in his own iReport video that the resolution was not fair.

“All organizations have people among them that are there for the wrong reasons, even the Tea Party has these type of people. If people were to pay attention, they might see these people being asked to leave,” he said. “Everyone has a right to free speech but even that should have its limits.”

Commenter “SJS52987” wrote, “If the Tea Party isn't racist, how is that every time I ask one of them a legitimate policy question, they can't answer it without mentioning President Obama's race?”

“Bigolug” wrote, “I'm sure there are a few racists involved with the Tea Party, just like there are racists involved with the NAACP. To label the whole Tea Party movement as racist is just a stretch and most likely politically motivated.”

How about the names of some real racists. Jeremiah Wright, Louis Farrakon, King Shamir Shabazz, Malik Shabazz and Jesse Jackson. Admonish and denounce them, then the NCAAP may have the moral authority to judge others.

some of you that call yourselves Christians only pull scripture out of the Bible that you can twist and manipulate to support some of your twisted rasist theology..Black and White alike. Read the scripute below and try and twist this one.

    Matthew 5:43-48 (New International Version)

    Love for Enemies
43"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' 44But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

CNN – you really are trying to fan the fire with the continuation of this same topic which was already well covered yesterday, don't you think? At least yesterday many of the comments were well stated, whereas today, it has all dissolved into an all around spewfest from all sides. . . .Enough already.

The Tea Party is one of the most ignorant movements I have seen in my liftime. Come on guys are you serious? Grass roots movement my ass. The Tea Party are a bunch of racist people rallying around a so-called political movement. Come on lets me honest here, have you ever seen a black person in a Tea Party rally. Plus everyone blames Obama for the problems Bush created. The Tea Party movement are ignorant like Sarah Palin. Oh yeah...I'm Republican.

I am a republican. I am not a member of the TEA PARTY. Unfortunately for republicans, the Tea Party has hijacked our party. Instead of creating their own ticket and running on their own merits, they have hijacked the Republican party. In essence they have split the republican party, which in the end will be their downfall. Anyone who thinks that a radical agenda is good for America is an idiot. Extreme views are not good for anyone, most Americans are somewhere in the middle. Some of America's greatest presidents could not survive the TEA PARTY. Not Washington, they would point to his many failures and insist that he was ineffective as a leader. Lincoln would fail because he did not have extremist views, he did not end slavery till half way through the war. Reagan (the conservative hero) was not extreme enough, he granted amnesty to 2million illegals and failed to follow it up with tougher border security. The Tea Party wants a Zachary Taylor or an Andrew Jackson. They want things to "Go Back" to the way things were, WHEN? The 1950's? They do not understand, there is no going back.

Hey snebmiester, they didn't hijack your worthless party, you morons did it to yourselves when you sold out America to the Corporations and you were all a bunch of thieves and corrupt bums, just ask Tom Delay. What happened Einstein is that the GOOD Republicans left for a party of their own choosing. Oh, they will probably win the next election so if you don't like the 50s, too bad so sad you lost get used to it. You had your time and you screwed America, so now you should just shut your piehole and "Be Happy"!!!!

New definition of racist – politically aware, hard working, freedom loving, taxpaying, law abiding, independent American, no matter what, race, color or creed.

Every movement has their extremists. Don't kid yourself! There are members of the NAACP that are straight up racists. There are members of the Tea Party that are straight up racists. There are members of La Raza that are straight up racists. If I'm lying look up what a mayate is. There are members of the frikken Joy Luck Club that are straight up racists. Are you getting the idea yet? There are bad apples in every bunch! However that does not define the entire bunch. Do you know why the Tea Party is even called the "Tea Party" are you that dense? They opposed TAXES just like the ones England imposed way-back when... hence the name Tea Party. Liberals Tax&Spend. It's no secret. Thats the primary reason behind the inception of the... wait for it..... wait for it.... Tea Party.

Here's the azz kikker; If you white and you oppose Obama you must be a supremacist cracka. If you are black and you oppose Obama you are an Oreo. If you are latino and you oppose Obama you are a coconut. Obama is a politician. A politician that was supposed to be a uniter, that would clear the air. I have never seen more division amongst people and confusion amongst industry. Ever. I don't agree with our president. What am I? When you don't agree with our president what are you? Judge this politician named Obama by his results. Not his hopes, not his ideas, not his intentions. Performance and Results baby.. That's what I will base my next vote on. It should be what you base yours on to. Not a name not a color not a slogan not a party. If I gotta swing parties to get results then guess what kids... I'm gonna do it.
I'm a 29yr old mixed race person born right here in the USA. This is what I see around me now.

The tea baggers are just a bunch of republicans that got all dressed up for a victory party after the 08 elections and then had no where to go after the crunching defeat of John McCan't and Sarah Pain-in the you know what. They are W's "folks" and can't understand intelligent speak because they got used to W's bumpkinspeak. Now enter Sarah again with her own brand of divisive bumpkiness and these lemmings all love her for that as that's all she's got.

I think the real injustice is that Blacks have allowed the NAACP leadership to manipulate them by making them victims. Who stands to loose the most from a new political party, the NAACP. A party focused on removing Government opression of citizens and opening opportunity more effectively to all.

Hmmm. My replies are showing up at the bottom. I believe that the American public wants free services (and for them to not suck) and not pay more taxes and this is impossible. Hearts in the right place though...
