Tea Partiers 'racist'? iReporters sound off

iReporters Jason Asselin, left, and Omekongo Dibinga sound off on the NAACP's recent resolution regarding Tea Partiers.

CNN.com readers and iReporters have had a passionate response to the NAACP’s resolution condemning Tea Partiers for having “racist elements.”

“We take issue with the Tea Party’s continued tolerance for bigotry and bigoted statements. The time has come for them to accept the responsibility that comes with influence and make clear there is no space for racism and anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry in their movement,” NAACP President and CEO Ben Jealous said.

iReporter Omekongo Dibinga posted a video, telling CNN, “If the Tea Party wants to become a credible organization, it has to show leadership when racist acts are committed by its members."

He went on to mention things he believes the Tea Party could do to combat racism: “The Tea Party can also partake in events that promote respect for other groups in a non-reactionary capacity, such as MLK Day events. The Party can also call out individuals by name who commit racist acts.”

Jason Asselin, who has attended some Tea Party events, disagreed, saying in his own iReport video that the resolution was not fair.

“All organizations have people among them that are there for the wrong reasons, even the Tea Party has these type of people. If people were to pay attention, they might see these people being asked to leave,” he said. “Everyone has a right to free speech but even that should have its limits.”

Commenter “SJS52987” wrote, “If the Tea Party isn't racist, how is that every time I ask one of them a legitimate policy question, they can't answer it without mentioning President Obama's race?”

“Bigolug” wrote, “I'm sure there are a few racists involved with the Tea Party, just like there are racists involved with the NAACP. To label the whole Tea Party movement as racist is just a stretch and most likely politically motivated.”

Find me more than 5 black people who call themselves tea partiers and the answer would be no. Good luck with that.

The Tea Party is annoying as the whiney liberals that had a problem with every move the Bush Administration made. No matter who you are, you have an issue how something is ran. Nothing is ran perfectly and never will be.

I have also thought that tea partys are more over race than the issues and I am a 47yr old caucasion male, why was it ok for the bush administration to take this country from a surplus to a major deficit by invading a country that never hit american soil, but when the obama administration spends money on US issues they have tea partys where was the tea partys when the money was flying to iraq.

Why did not the NAACP claim that the Black Panthers are a racist group? It is another blind eye to your own problems!

First off I am not for the Tea Party or any other branch of the government I pick the PERSON I feel is the right candidate (I did not vote for Obama either)....
Now to subject here.... The only TeaParty speech that I have seen was being lead by a black man and might I say a very calm, intelligent individual at that. I feel today those in the NAACP are only looking for attention and unfortunately they have been getting "bad" at what "battles" they are choosing to make public. If they want to something good then maybe they should have gone about saying something to the effect that they didn't appreciate his words as an individual NOT as a entire party.... or something to that fact.
People all to quickly jump on the "race" card when it's not race but the subject matter being discussed that needs the attention. Maybe they should have looked into the cause of the mans anger and not at what they thought he was spewing.... I admit I have not seen the person speaking that they are upset with but I don't condone much of what the Tea Party or really any of our government people are spouting lately... It's just disturbing all together at what our government is coming to and letting happen to the common man regarless of race/creed/etc.
p.s. sorry for any misspellings if you don't like them feel free to correct them....

To all the Texans saying "show me video": I don't need to show you anything. I'm one of maybe two white democrats in my Texas county. I KNOW it's racism. I've heard all the jokes. I've spoken up a couple of times, timidly, but you guys don't pull any punches with me, a sad minority here. I know you don't like a black man being in power. I've heard you. I've seen your guns. I know how angry you are. Sometimes I'm frightened.

The NAACP calling another group racist is the pot calling the kettle black.
How many times have they had demonstrations which became anti-white? Did they support the black panthers?

I believe most everyone is at least a bit racist as much as we try not to be. Blacks overuse the term which incites Whites to speak out againest them. The best thing we can do is let people speak their mind and then move on. It's just words people. Geez

It's not just a few people I've seen with racist signs at tea parties - it's quite a few. And in comments espoused on here by people who clearly are tea party sympathizers if not members, there's a lot of racist language. I don't believe that's true of all or even most of those who are part of the tea party movement. But, the hate seems to exacerbate the feelings and the vitriol expressed by those who are racists. Pretty hard to deny when you read these posts.

    @Scott

Other dictionaries (such as Random House) include:

"hatred or intolerance of another race or other races" under racism.

Where it exists, it would apply to anyone regardless of color.

You understand that you cant even run for the office of
president of the united states, unless you are approved by skull and bones
    and the world trade organization.
They have an agenda that has nothing to do with you being
    Democrat or Republican.
Your country is being controlled, because you have the largest
    military on the planet.
Wars are very profitable, but the bottom line is about control.
    You are owned.
You just dont know it yet.

Do you think that these people in control give a flying screw about you ?
    Think of yourself this way...
    Farmers control cattle.
    YOU are cattle.

You have been given the illusion that whoever sits in the white house can make a difference.
He is allowed to make policy changes (if he can get them passed)

If i own the monopoly board, i dont care about your silly country
    I OWN IT !!

The Soviet Union fell not because Ronny Raygun said tear down this wall
it fell because the world bbanks sucked billions of dollars out of the country
and most of the economy was on the military
same thing is now happening in USA.

You may know more about American politics than me,
but i have been watching global politics
that are controlled by other sources.

Why do so many countrys still have monarchies ?
Because behind closed doors they still have control.

When the British just had a crisis during elections, who solved the crisis ?
    The Queen !!

United States Of America, free country ?
Better take a look at what we signed when the war ended.
We may not fly the union jack, but we are still a subject of the British.

This one i am still looking up,
but it seems (with few exceptions)
that all of our presidents can be traced back to royalty someplace.

    Enjoy your freedom.

Look at the signs that the Tea Baggers bring to their gatherings. The evidence is there for all to see in black and white and sometimes even color. Some have racist overtones and some are blatantly racist. If you tell me you haven't seen the sign with Obama and a bone through his nose at these gatherings, you are just not paying attention.
