5.3 magnitude earthquake hits off coast of Oregon

The United States Geological Survey recorded a earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 off the coast of Oregon at 9:12 a.m. Wednesday, about 80 miles west-northwest of Barview, Oregon, and 197 miles southwest of Portland, Oregon.

The earthquake was about 6.2 miles (10 km) deep, making it a relatively shallow earthquake.

Lise Harwin, communications director for the Oregon Trail Chapter of the Red Cross, said the initial impact of the earthquake seemed minor. She said her agency has not been contacted for assistance.

No tsunami warning has been issued.

If the democrats and republicans only lived in the southern states...... they would realize that we need this!

I am a WHITE southern woman BOB...who does still live in the south...and I see NO problems with the immigrants who live here. They are willing to do jobs that traditional americans (black and white) wont do...they have GREAT work ethic...and they have a very deep seated appreciation for education. If they were not willing to work for low wages in the nursery & agriculture industries...you and I would be paying thru the nose at the grocery store! Only problem I see is frequent DUIs committed by immigrant men. But statistically speaking...far more whites are charged with DUIs...so to say that is uniquely an illegal immigration problem is a lie. I am so sick of the made up stories & fake 'cost of illegal immigration figures' that the racist white right wingers love to spout. And for the record...my hispanic friends who are American citizens are NOT angry at the illegal immigrants....that is an outrageous, made up, lie!

Search hard and deep to find a poll conducted yesterday by CNN that concluded 65% of hispanics are in favor of Arizona's new immigration law. I am sure if it had yielded opposite results it would have been front page today.

YES!! A LOT of hard working, rule abiding, LEGAL, tax paying hispanic citizens are indeed angry that their ethnic "brethren" with no papers are making it hard on the rest of them. They to want to know : "What the heck makes you so special?" The ones that are PROUD to call themselves Americans are disgusted by them.

You can't find it because, like many Beck/Limbaugh/Boortz claims, it just dooesn't exist.

I assume you are "mis-remembering" the story from July 29: "CNN Poll: Should illegal immigrants be allowed to stay?" In that poll, 71% of Hispanics oppose the new Arizona law. So, in fact, it did yield the opposite results from what you claim, yet it was "suppressed." Where does that leave your right-wing paranoia?

Of course, this is ridiculously off topic, but that's Glenn Beck for you.

Oh yeah, God has a lot to do with the shifting of tectonic plates.

God created man, created the earth, the heavens... but somehow, he has no say or control over tectonic plates (which are part of the earth he created by the way)... that's taking power away from God and saying He's helpless to control something like an earthquake.

that is a misunderstanding of God.

Is Eric kidding? Seriously...you think there is a god micromanaging all this? If so, I just remember that he told me you're supposed to write me a really big check without questioning why...

Eric has just demonstrated why there is no arguing or reasoning with the hyper-religious. They accept everything based on faith. Faith is something you accept without proof or fact. Argument and or discussion ends there.

@eric- Actually, the heavens created the earth, the earth created man, and man, in pre-historic times created god in a lame and unscientific attempt to explain man's existence. Anything less is a misunderstanding of the origin of god...and how powerless he really is....

Eric; God, or, god, is hopeless as it/he/she is and has been unable to 'create' peace on earth, elevate suffering and so forth.

God was created in mans image. And we did not do so well.

    • The Lord Say you gotta rise uppa!!!

Why is God a him?? Actually, God doesn't speak and never has and that is why religious people are insane!

I am sure you have heard God though...in my heart...in my soul. PSYCHO!!!

If God exists why would God hide??? Seriously, the controller of all things and God is too scared to show us. Makes absolutely zero sense you non-thinking morons. Want to hear something crazy. The time it took for me to write this sentence an infinte number of "earthquakes" have happened thoughout our universe and most likely the multiverse that is the true reality. Science is bad we all know.

      Some facts:

Earth is not even the center of our solar system. We float around that relatively small thing called the sun. We are not even in the cetner of our own galaxy. We float through space at about 66% near the edge of our Galaxy. The objects in our galaxy like the planets in our very very very very tiny solar system all move around a super massive black hole. Our SUN WILL EXPLODE. IT will engulf the earth first. God can not stop that :) It happens all the time. Idiots..you guys really think that not only earth BUT YOU ARE THE CENTER of everything. We are but nothing. Deal with it! Revel in the fact that you can think!! Use your friggin brains!!! GOD DOES NOT EXIST. Or at least your white, old, wise, flowing robe version. What does exist? TIME, ENERGY, SPACE, GRAVITY and possibly an infinite number of universes. Our entire universe is most likely just a tiny spec of nothing in the infinite space time. A tiny little bubble among a ocean of bubbles!!!

ARGHH>..He is making me think. My head is going to explode. Help me God!!!!

Virtually nothing changed from the previous administration to this administration, but suddenly illiegal immigration is in crisis? Really? What changed? Nothing!

And Why do democrats always point to Bush and Hurricane Katrina and omit Obama's miserable handling of the oil spill? It works both ways and way too many people refuse to see both sides of the issue in both parties

I have a plan. Bring all the troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan. Close all our bases around the world. Put all the troops on the border. Save tons on money. We need to get out the wars with countries that will be in the same mess ten years from now. Let them eat each other for all I care.

Wait wait, So are you implying because less people have died that its ok to excuse the current administrations response to the oil spill? Less people may have died but more people are affected by this situation. The economic impact for the whole gulf coast has been tremendous for certain industries. To say that it's ok to rank the different govt responses based on number of people dead and not number of people affected is extremely biased. Im not saying either is in the right but it’s extremely short sighted to pin point one response and completely over look the other.

Also remember there are psycological implications, not just monetary implications, for the loss of jobs. CNN did a story a few weeks ago on suicides from the loss of jobs because of the oil spill.

When is congress going to fix this huge problem and stop ducking the issue year after year.
Secondly how do illegal aliens have any rights in this country at all?? what about people in
other countries that love this country and want to come here as a citizen but have to wait 5-8
years to get in???? What do we tell them?? Lastly how does the rights of illegals override the
rights of fellow Americans and tax paying Americans??? Isn't this totally wrong and backwards.
Why would the AZ governor and voters and police be wrong in protecting the tax paying citizens
of AZ??? If you were in AZ and had a family member who was killed by drug violence or affected
by some other crime by ILLLEGALS wouldn't you do the same or should we continue to look the other
way. Finally what about the federal crack down on companies hiring illegals and then prosecuted for
that crime??? Who and where are the complaints against that atrocity????? Nowhere!!!

The bible timeline is now known. End of time being May 21, 2011

Read 'We are almost there' available by family radio. That is when the big earthquake will strike.
Read it to see all the proof the bible has always had but only now are the seals opened by our Lord Jesus Christ.
Just as Jonah told the ninevites and Sodom was told they would be destroyed. We to are now being told we will be destroyed. The churches have all lost their way and teach their way to get into heaven instead of realizing there really is nothing you can do to save yourself so cry out to Jesus and ask/beg him that you to might be saved. Peace.

Earthquakes and disasters where non were before, yeah, something's happening. Prepare for it, cause when it happens, people are gonna go nuts. People who would never hurt or steal are going to be pushed to their limits, and the already criminals are only gonna get worse. Start buying AR's, AK's, shotguns & handguns, and lots of ammo.
