Alex Rodriguez hits milestone 600th home run

Alex Rodriguez became the youngest player to hit 600 career home runs on Wednesday.

New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez has hit his 600th career home run - a two-run blast in the first inning against Toronto Blue Jays.

The homer, which landed on the net on top of monument park in Yankee Stadium, makes A-Rod the youngest and the seventh player to join the 600 club.

The milestone was a long-awaited one - with 46 at-bats between his 599th and 600th home runs.

Rodriguez now joins the elite company of Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, Willie Mays, Ken Griffey Jr. and Sammy Sosa.

Absolutely meaningless milestone for a serial PED abuser. This guy will not make the hall even if he hits 800 and deservedly so. As far as I'm concerned Roger Maris still holds the single season record at 61 and Han Aaron is the all time king at 755. A-Rod, Bonds, McGwire, Sosa, Palmiero, Clemens and the rest can go pound sand.

Droan..... first off, you didn't play real baseball. You played Little League. There are three levels of baseball when you are a youngster to choose from. For all purposes, the following examples are for a 12 year old team. First there's Little League, the lowest form of baseball there is. You can't lead off, you can't steal until the pitched ball passes home plate, bases are closer together, and the pitchers mound is closer, etc. Or you can choose Hot Stove where the bases are still close together but some of the rules differ from Little League. Or, at the same age level, you can opt for a Travel League. In that, the bases are ten feet further apart, you can steal, you can lead off, pitchers mound is further away (basically all rules are the same as the majors).

I guess what I'm getting at, had you played REAL baseball when you were a kid you might have enjoyed/appreciated it more. In fact, I would be very surprised to even see Little League still in existence 10 years from now. I could be wrong though, there are always going to be those kids who aren't good enough to play real baseball, so they will need a place to play. Little League = rec ball (not for those serious about the sport).

I forgot... In Little League the outfield fences are only 200'-225' (roughly) and for the same age group in Travel ball the fences are on average 325'. There's just no comparison. Little League is a joke (as are you Droan).

So if steroids are what hepled ARod achieve this, why aren't all time greats Manny and Papi at the top of the homerun list? You drunken foolish Sox fans need to keep your moronic comments in check. I've never witnessed so many cases of stupidity being trumped by even worse stupidity before. Has anyone done a study on the dumbest fans on earth? I'd be willing to bet Sox fans are tops on that list. Drunk fat and stupid is no way to go through life Sox fans...Buy a book on stats and take a reading lesson. The Yankees are the premier sports franchise in the world. Parallelled only by the Manchester United, which is probably the most successful sports organization in the world. Jealousy will get you nowhere. All the name calling and dirt slinging will not make up the 25 world series championship differential. You could live 25 life times and still never witness the glory that Yankee fans have experienced in the past 35 years. This is why Yankee fans are so much more civilized than Red Sox you mongrels. You don't know how to behave when you win. Yankee fans win gracefully. Red Sox fans are like hyenas around a carcass when they win.

When starting my career, If I could have taken a drug that would have made me excel as a middle manager, I would have taken it too. Times have changed and we're all a lot more enlightened. His past is his past, and he looks to be making good progress towards his future. Baseball is slow. Who cares? Get a beer and a dog and enjoy the beauty of a well imanicured infield and the trash talk between fans. Oh yeah, Go Rays.

I will be the first to admit even without roids A-wad would be a hall of famer. Isn't it a shame as far as Dominican Republic players go though A-roid is not even that bad a cheater. I don't even think he lied about his age like so many do. The new thing now that DR has better birth certificate laws is suddenly all the players were born in Haiti instead.

This is hilarious on a few points:
1-Why on earth are all you NON-baseball fans even taking time out to comment on something you DON'T EVEN CARE ABOUT!!?? Jeez don't you have better things to do? 2- For all you "Steroid Crusaders", I hope you don't care for baseball either because I hate to be the one to let you know that between 1988 through to the new millennium about 75% of players were juicing. So don't just sit back and pick and choose who you go after. Odds are that your own favorites were right there doing the juicing as well, which brings me to my last point: 3-All you "crusaders" who talk about these players today and the cheating DO realize that MANY old timers consider the players from the 60's and 70's as having grossly unfair advantages than when they played right? Oh, and guess what? Players from the 20's and 30's considered players from the 50's and 60's as terribly lame and pampered. And best of all, if any of you out there have read ANY books on baseball from it's inception straight through to the 60's would know that cheating has been a part of your sweet sweet "good old times" memories. It's a fact. The cheating that went on the first part of the 20th century would make your head spin. How do I know? I actually read! All this info is readily available! Know your facts before spewing your garbage! And lastly, let's NOT even talk about the drugs that were used from the 60's through the swingin' 80's!!! BTW- I'll take a former 'roid user any day over a blatant cheater like the Red Sox of 2003/04 with their camera's at Fenway: Yes, you can look that up as well!

John, I'll tell you why. The Yankees are an indicator species of a sort. They wouldn't exist if investors didn't take millions and millions of dollars and bring them in to existence. In general it makes people sick, or not want to watch baseball. Women's softball is more of a 'sport' than watching the Yankees play anyone. And if you add to that the pervasive, and widely accepted use of performance enhancing drugs, is it really a sport anymore when the outcome is so certain? That's why people think that it's boring... not because of the long periods of inaction when strategy is being played out. That's part of baseball. But the rest is just bought and paid for faux sportsmanship. Much like our politics today. Just like.

John John John. This jerk cheated on his wife and then – by juicing – cheated on his "sport." He's a big fat zero. Ho hum to him. Nothing special about him. What else you got? Curling anyone? Ping Pong? Poker?
