A federal court in Riverside, California, ruled Thursday that the
military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy - which bars lesbians and gay men
from serving openly in the military – is unconstitutional.
Virginia A. Phillips, U.S. district judge in Southern California, has ruled
that the policy violates the Fifth and First amendments, and issued a permanent injunction barring its enforcement.

We must have forgot that on in the pledge that we say all the time we say "one nation, under GOD." If we as a nation can pass a law like this and look in the mirror and honestly say that God looks down and approves of something like this then America truly is falling apart. This is a step back for all Americans.
We've only been "Under God" since Congress added the line in 1954, and they never specified a particular god. The Flying Spaghetti Monster has no problem with gays in the military.
You need to pry your eyes away from your ancient book and look up to equality. You're just a afraid.
Finally. It took long enough.
Not only am i a gulf war veteran, but I'm also disabled. I say it's about time. A good friend of mine was kicked out for "coming out" and i couldn't believe it at the time (1988) Oh, and by the way I'm most definately straight
You don't have to BE straight to SHOOT straight! Thank God the time has finally come for equality!
I thought that this policy was put in place to protect them from thouse who can't serve with them
Travis, u got the words out of my mouth, excellent comment I totally agree with you!
Odd how many of those posting about their serving in the military with gays remind us "oh by the way I'm straigh" .
Not really. Its just more information so you can put the thougth into the proper context. Its slightly different comming from a straight person than coming from a gay person. Think about motives. -a straight person has little if anything to gain.
Hey smart people,
Do we have any real evidence that suggests our militairy is somehow diminished or at greater risk by allowing openly gay members? Or was this rule just there to make Jesus "happy" and/or to benifit all the small minds that hate things that they do not understand or are different?
reck0ner.......................go suck on this u f'ing idiot
My understanding is the policy was put into effect to protect our gay soldiers serving. At the time, the military was facing several allegations of misconduct from "straight" soldiers against soldiers who were "suspected" of being gay. The reality is....there will and has always been gay soldiers since the beginning of military history.
Seriously, is anyone suggesting this not to be true? Someone has already so elegantly stated....who cares....soldiers know which soldiers are gay already. If I had to choose between an inexperienced soldier and a experienced, gay soldier to fight beside I would pick experience every time. What anyone does in their bedroom is there business!
And there would by now be an "animal kingdom gay editionl" cable ch. so we could marvel at how gay the animals are becoming. Just as we see gay cable tv for the human species who blame genetics for the choices they made........lately.
Pres. Obama could end this with the stroke of his pen as promised. There must be a good reason why he refuses.Perhaps he was born that way? Maybe it's natural for him not to? oh wait~he has inherited the, ummmm the......... indecisive gene? Can he blame his genes? can/do you?
