Pastor who planned 9/11 Quran burning arrives in NYC

The Rev. Terry Jones, the Florida pastor who has garnered worldwide attention for his plan earlier this week to burn Qurans on September 11, arrived in New York City late Friday night, according to footage provided by CNN affiliate WABC.

"I don't have anything to say right now," he told a group of reporters who followed him out of LaGuardia Airport and to a taxi cab.

K.A. Paul, an evangelist in contact with Jones, has said that there will be no burning of the book Saturday evening, as had been originally planned.

Jones has said he was scheduled to travel to New York City on Friday night for a still-unscheduled meeting with the imam in charge of the New York Islamic center planned near ground zero.

The planned meeting, Jones had said, helped persuade him to halt the planned burning.

enough. enough attention has been given to this man. he should not be considered a catalyst to further discussion.
he is taking only energy away to all those being remembered on 9/11 and the very many who are still healing. everyone needs to refocus their energy.

Who are you trying to kid? Muslims have been burning Bibles and burning down churches and in Saudi Arabia there are over 2,000,000 Christians but not one of them are allowed to build a church. If a tourist brings a Bible with them to Saudi Arabia, then the Bible is taken away from them and shredded. So don't lie and say the Muslims have not burned or destroyed Bibles.

That is great! No major religion would go for that, Christian, Muslim, or Jew. The peaceful Buddhists probably would, which is why they will inherit the Earth after the others destroy each other. It's crazy that 3 religions Based on the same beginning principles could bicker so much – it's like three sisters and one hair dryer... Anyone who's seen THAT fight knows what I'm talking about!

It is tragic that there is so much hostility over religious beliefs. While many religions have specific details that vary greatly between each other, the main idea is that we believe in a higher power. Of course, the holy book of each religion differs from one another, because the opinions and recollections of the people writing those books differed from one another. If they did not, we would all be reading copies of the same book. We are reading opinions and are continuing the same arguments that started ages ago. If you read each of these holy books and quickly summarize each one (with the exception of a few extremist opinions, and consider the varied locations of events) they all stress the same points. Personally, with as much hatred, greed and pure ignorance this world is filled with... as long as my children are praying to GOD... and they do their best to be honest and good people... It really does not matter which religion, if any... that they choose to follow. My partner was, is, and always will be—Muslim. He is devoted to his faith. With his God-given common sense, he also knows what to take seriously from it. Just as I do with the Christian faith. In fact, our children often end their evening dinner prayers with “In Jesus name we pray, Thank you God, Allah u Akbar, Amen.”

The Art of Religion... “I can go to an art gallery and observe a painting, admire the peaceful sunset, appreciate the detail in the delicate flowers, and form my opinion of the artist’s work. The person standing next to me may see an enlightening sunrise, notice the detail of the delicate leaves on a towering tree, and form their own opinion of the masterpiece and the intention of the artist that created it. We have very different interpretations, but we are both looking at the very same painting...”

Islam does not assimilate into cultures; they dominate them & eventually conquer them, rendering their traditions and social values extinct. It's the same tactics & methods Islam has used in their 1400 yr. history of infiltration, threats, violence & submission, to their never ending social demands, as they continue in their quest for world dominance. Pay less attention to what they say & more to their irrefutable actions. Islam already has a foothold here & we have terrorists living amongst us, planning their next attacks, right here on our soil, just as the hijackers did before 9/11, using our freedoms & liberties to achieve their evil agenda. There's no such thing as a "moderate" Muslim, anymore than a moderate piranha, once the feeding frenzy begins, moderates will be nowhere to be found. Just as it is now, Muslims will never stand up for America, against Islam. To do so would mean an eternity in hell, for disagreeing with or doubting Islam. Don't expect American Muslims to stand for America, above Islam, but you can be sure, if cartoons or anything considered bias against Islam is perceived, rest assured, they will come out en mass. A snake may shed its skin, but it's still a snake beneath & the nature of the beast is to strike & kill. American Muslims will betray us to Islam, when the time is right & that time is coming, as America comes to terms with who the enemy really is. Moderate or radical, Islam is the enemy of the world, themselves & any non-Muslim.

Just a FYI – there are some 15000 thousand Pakistani Muslim Soldiers who have died fighting for America in Pakistan . Your parochial mindset clearly betrays a biased mind

Lawrence E. Browne in ‘The Prospects of Islam,’ 1944

Incidentally these well-established facts dispose of the idea so widely fostered in Christian writings that the Muslims, wherever they went, forced people to accept Islam at the point of the sword.

De Lacy O'Leary in 'Islam at the Crossroads,' London, 1923.

History makes it clear, however, that the legend of fanatical Muslims sweeping through the world and forcing Islam at the point of sword upon conquered races is one of the most fantastically absurd myths that historians have ever repeated.

Everything you say is true, but 'truth is lacking in the public square' and the rulers of this world [the real ones behind the scenes that pull all the global strings] are working on a time frame since 1920 and the fruit of their labors is being born for a short time to come where they will be able to conquer for a short period of time and then all hell will break loose~! Moderates with a conscience will be treated as infidels & punished even more severely. Accomplices who have helped them to achieve their goal will no longer be needed and once in total control, they wont even need the 'religious' side of islam as their political side wins out against all political systems. Allah may want to be god and has fooled billiions into thinking he's god and people are free to choose any god they want, but contrary to popular beliefs and lip service paid, there is a real God that will put His righteous foot down at the appointed time, as the battle is the Lord's and despite the evil that has infiltrated most all religions of the world today, despite all the wars, rumors or wars, natural disasters, public delusions and man's capacity for self deceit, Jesus is still the only mediator between God and man and the only hope any of us can have to make it out of this world alive~ that is to enter into eternal life – is through Jesus nor Mohammad, Krishna, Buddha or any other god, Jesus is the ONLY way, the ONLY truth and the Life. No one can come to the Father except through Him. so let not your hearts be troubled trust God, try to live peaceful with all men and prepare yourselves for whats to come. The Bible is true and is our survival handbook to make it out of this world alive~!

How dare you spew off such ignorant and biased statements about a religion you clearly have no understanding of. People like you are responsible for perpetuating the cycle of hate that has poisoned the minds of so many people. There are radicals on all sides. We are all flawed and the sooner we understand that, the sooner we can achieve true peace amongst all men. We must be the change we wish to see in the world, lest we continue a decent into chaos.

What you wrote shows your illiteracy and ignorance towards Muslim world. When a muslim see each other they say "Peace be upon you". How Islam is without peace then? I am a muslim and US Citizen and I love this country and if needed I will fight for HER. What you are doing just stereotyping Muslims because you want to do that. My suggestion would be, before you come to conclusion, make some Muslim friends (not only from Pakistan, but also from other country too) BUT before that take off stereotyping from you head. Then judge. You can do another thing. During Ramadan, go to Mosque during Magrib Prayer (sun set time) dressing as like as Muslim, and see what they do.

I respect all cultures and any statements are in general terms with the disclaimer that there are moderate voices on all sides of the argument.
Although I disagree with the idea of burning any text that any culture reveres, Americans do have the Right to Free Speech. The moment we defer our rights for fear of international repercussions, we might as well walk away from our rights. We should not defer our rights out of fear of an escalation of war efforts, we can argue that it places our troops in harms way but truly, it trivializes what they are fighting for. Furthermore, I feel that we should not be swayed by cultures that still condone stoning as a capital punishment. I realize the practice is controversial and not all agree but as recently as August 2010 a couple accused of adultery were stoned in Afghanistan.
In the end, this has gotten more attention than it deserved. Let him burn a book if he wants to, you don't have to agree or participate. It's not the first time a book has been burned over ideology and at least in this day and age there are fabulous printing presses to make more.

why is it we have to be always so politically correct? other people burn our flags and books and we say or do nothing. but, when one man wants to excerise his freedom of speech by burning something that he feels is a threat to his person, country and life he should be able to do it. what have we become as a country??? we are sheep. we do and believe everything the media and our agenda based leaders say. time to say screw you, you oppressed people of islam. you are cowards that hide in caves and are just dogs. Just because a small percentage declare that 9/11 should be a day for reflection and unity does not mean that is how most of us view it. To remember 9/11 devoid of the terrorism and politically and socially destructive goals it was motivated by is stupid and just plain wrong. The politically correct can mouth their compromising rhetoric all day, but it will not stop the rest of us from seeing 9/11 for what it was: a bloody, unforgivable terrorist attack by Islamic radicals that should be remembered with hatred and resistance. This hatred and resistance should be forged into political, financial, and military action that will cripple and destroy the origins of that ideology.

There is a 42-page analysis warns of the growing threat of homegrown terrorism and the role played by U.S. citizens and residents within al Qaeda and allied organizations. It describes an increasingly wide range of "U.S.-based jihadist militants" who do not fit "any particular ethnic, economic, educational, or social profile."
"Al Qaeda or its allies continue to have the capacity to kill dozens, or even hundreds of Americans, in a single attack," the report concludes. And al Qaeda leaders still "hope to inflict mass casualty attacks in the United States."
The report, states that al Qaeda's ideological influence has increased among other jihadist organizations in South Asia and in countries such as Somalia and Yemen
