1 dead, 2 wounded in Fort Bliss shooting

The FBI is on its way to Fort Bliss in west Texas to investigate a shooting at a convenience store on the base that left a man dead  and two women wounded, according to base spokesman Dieter Jester.

The man, who authorities say shot the females, was shot and killed by law enforcement officers on the base.

It's unclear what may have been the motive for the shooting or even if
the man or his victims are in the military or are civilians.

The police officers who killed the alleged gunman responded within three to four minutes because their offices are very near the base shopping area.

Fort Bliss is close to the Mexican border near El Paso, Texas, but straddles the Texas-New Mexico border. Most of the base is located in New Mexico, but the main headquarters is in Texas.

The base is home to the First Armored Division. President Barack Obama
visited there last month to meet the troops and mark the end of the official combat mission in Iraq.

Fort Bliss is not in a dangerous area!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One story that involved with El Paso.....Hmmmm...Motive unclear, like this doesn't happen any OTHER city. I travel to El Paso about every week or every other week, the people are awesome, crime rate is very low. Believe that El Paso was listed just a month ago to be the 2nd or 3rd safest cities in the country. I have never had a bad experience.

Stop looking at google maps and thinking you know its in new mexico. ft bliss...all of it, is in texas. that whole top half that some of you are referring to (from a map)....there is nothing. and the other part is white sands missile range..not ft bliss. I have been stationed there and live on post for some time now. i can tell you positively that all of the entry/exit gates are well inside texas. and for the idiot who said its unsafe, it is one of the safest places in the entire country. this is an isolated event..which you can find almost anywhere. i guarantee you he is not from el paso, and is probably in the military or a veteran. i dont even like el paso but it is not a dangerous place...at all.

This isn't unusual at Ft Bliss these days. There was a soldier shot at the PX by the jewlery counter last year, an 18 yr old boy shot in military housing on his way to high school by a soldier who was shooting at his wife's lover, a man who took a baseball bat in the barracks and beat a soldier, a few suicides etc. I was at Ft Bliss for almost 7 years when my husband finally was able to leave that post. When I first got there in 2003 things were great. A lot of the violence comes from military spouses who cheat on their husbands whether they are state-side or deployed. As a military spouse you know that your husband isn't going to always be by your side and you chose this lifestyle so if it's not for you get out. I'm not saying that is what happened with this current shooting but to always blame PTSD is just an excuse. Soldiers are people too they do have a breaking point if a civilian husband catches his wife cheating or vice versa there is the possibilty of the same situation.
As far as talking about El Paso yes I am glad we left when bullets shot from Juarez hit the El Paso City Building there is an issue. When there are more homicides on a daily basis in one city than there are in a whole country that is in war there is an issue. The education in El Paso is AWEFUL for the most part there are a few school districts that are good. I applaud Soccorro and Ysleta. However the post schools have civilian children attending them so civilian can come and go on the military base as they please to get their kids. There was an attempted kidnapping in Lower Logan Elementary School and when the child went back into the school to tell the teacher they disregarded the information and told the kid to walk home anyway.
As a military spouse who tried to find work there it is difficult. If you have a higher education level than another person going to get a job who can speak Spanglish they will give it to the Spanglish speaking person. It took me 5 years to get a job there. I call it Spanglish not as an insult but because it's not the Spanish you are taught in high school. I know I took 4 years of it and it is useless in America. It is also a dirty city, you go "downtown" and it's like going to a ghetto. I hope I never get stationed there again. There is nothing to do with your kids without driving 8 hrs to San Antonio or to Arizona, or Albuquerque NM. It really is the "ARMPIT of AMERICA".

  9. George Vreeland Hill

GEORGE VREELAND HILL SPEAKS ABOUT GUN CONTROL:

We need to start taking a real hard look at how we control guns in this country.
There are a number of weapons available today that do not belong in people's hands.
If the number of gun related deaths keep going up, then maybe we need to take all guns out of society, except hunting rifles.
The lies of the NRA and its supporters no longer hold any weight.
The often used saying, guns don't kill people, people kill people, is wrong.
The real truth is that people use guns to kill other people, and they are doing so in record numbers.
Another argument of gun owners is that if guns were outlawed, then only criminals would have guns.
    Well, guess what?
Good citizens can have guns right now, and many do, but they are still getting shot.
If someone pulls a gun on you, it will not matter if you have one yourself.
Many police officers around the country have been killed in recent years by firearms, and no one is more well armed than police.
We saw more than thirty Virginia Tech students killed by a nut with a gun.
We have seen many shootings in high schools, churches, malls, parks, the streets, our homes, military bases and on and on.
Since arming everyone is out of the question, how can we protect ourselves from this sort of thing?
Quite simply, we can't, even with more security.
How many more innocent people have to die because the outdated Second Amendment states that people have the right to keep and bear arms?
    It does not work today.
    Read the entire 2nd.
People's right to live far outweighs the right to bear arms.
Get pistols and all other guns that are used to massacre people out of society.
If that does not stop the violence, then ban all guns (except hunting rifles), and tell the NRA to shut its stupid mouth.
In closing, I have to say that hunters must be allowed to keep their weapons including rifles, because hunting is not only a proud tradition, but a necessity as well.
    Ban all other guns.
The next child to die may be yours.
Believe me, the NRA won't care.

    George Vreeland Hill
(Look my name up because I am out to get the NRA and all gun lovers who have no answers, and I am doing so in a very legal and public way)
