Pakistani scientist gets 86 years for attempted murder

Pakistani scientist Aafia Siddiqui was sentenced to 86 years for attempted murder and other charges by a federal judge in New York for attempting to kill several U.S. military officers while she was being interrogated in Afghanistan.

Siddiqui was found guilty in February on seven counts, including attempted murder.

In 2008, she fired a rifle at two FBI special agents, a U.S. Army warrant officer, an Army captain and military interpreters when they entered a room where she was being held. She did not hit anyone, but was injured when the warrant officer returned fire.

Afghan police had arrested her outside the Ghazni governor's compound after finding her with bomb-making instructions, excerpts from the "Anarchist's Arsenal," papers with descriptions of U.S. landmarks and substances sealed in bottles and glass jars, according to a September 2008 indictment.

The indictment said Siddiqui had "handwritten notes that referred to a 'mass casualty attack'" listing several locations in the United States, and "construction of 'dirty bombs.'"

The notes also "discussed various ways to attack 'enemies,' including by destroying reconnaissance drones, using underwater bombs, and using gliders," the indictment said.

Will her prison sentence be another "recruiting bonanza"? For that reason alone we should set her free. Can't have the sensitive people upset ....again.

  7. Be fair

It is easier to bend over backwards in the name of PC and not call her a terrorist or jihadist than upset the Muslim world. The rioting has already started. When will we ever learn? Peace!

And this woman is currently how old? Let's say 30. And let's say she lives to 80. The taxpayer has to fork out 50 years to keep her alive in prison, for say $50k a year, which is a grand total of $2.5 million. Am I the only one asking the stupidity of this? I think I prefer China's solution: take her out to the field, shoot her, and send her family an invoice for the bullet fee.

  10. Proud Pakistani Muslim

Some of the people here are so hateful just because she (Aafia) is a Muslim woman. I feel that Most Americans will not shed a tear if an innocent Muslim is killed but they expect Muslims to care about them. Hate brings more hate and only few people have the ability to rise above their weakness and reject hateful ideas. If you wish peace then start from yourself and do not lend yourself to hateful emotions. Jury members failed to rise above their prejudice and handed a verdict which is surprising even for the hateful people. This reminds me of courts setup by Nazis to punish Jews for no reason in Nazi Germany. But this is happening in 21st century United States which was supposed to be that shining city on the hill.

hey proud pakistani muslim.....where did you get the idea she's an innocent muslim woman????....she tried to kill several people and had plans to kill alot more....just goes to show that the muslim world is in complete denial....I'm a police officer and I've seen people get a much more harsher sentence for doing alot less....In my opinion....she didn't get what she deserves....should have been the death penalty...
