[Updated at 12:52 p.m.] The hostage situation at a south Florida bank is over and one man is in custody, but the bank remains an active crime scene, police say.
An individual in the bank had a "device" on them, Coral Gables Police Sgt. Janette said. The device has been removed and remains inside the bank.
"The bomb squad is currently on scene and trying to contain it and detonate it inside the bank," Frevola said.
The bank is now clear, no injuries have been reported, and Frevola said police are questioning the individual who had the device.
"There is no confirmed role of this individual," she said.
[Updated at 10:50 a.m.] Police have surrounded a south Florida bank where customers and employees are believed to be held hostage.
Video from the scene shows several officers surrounding the bank and at least one taking position behind his police cruiser, a long gun perched on the trunk.
Coral Gables police Sgt. Janette Frevola said authorities were not sure how many hostages or hostage takers were involved.
"Our crisis negotiators are on scene and we're trying to work something out," Frevola said. "As far as we know, there are no injuries."
