A federal judge ordered that the U.S. military stop enforcing the don't ask, don't tell policy on Tuesday.
Judge Virginia Phillips ordered the military "immediately to suspend and discontinue any investigation, or discharge, separation, or other proceeding, that may have been commenced under the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"."
The judge had previously ruled that the policy regarding gays serving in the military violated service members Fifth Amendment rights but delayed issuing the injunction.

Just becuase something makes You uncomfortable, should not be a valid reason to disenfranchise a group of people putting their lives on the line, for a country that frankly, is beginning to make me sick! ...and is no bastion of freedom.

To all of you who are unable to comprehend how a judge ordered the military to do something because you think the military is independent of all laws or something, wake up! The military is controlled by the Department of Defense, a *federal executive department*! The US military is ultimately controlled by civilians, plain and simple. Not to mention the fact that the Commander-in-Chief himself has expressed his eagerness to get rid of DADT.
I'll accept gays in my military when I see one have a baby out the same place they like to stick it.

Whoever thinks that this doesn't count because the judge is not a military judge has a terribly flawed understanding of functions and powers of the U.S. government. The military is not autonomous.
For those of you who expressing concerns about disrupting the culture of the military in a negative fashion, your fears are completely unfounded. The majority of the militaries of the developed nations of the world allow gay people to serve openly and it works just fine.
To the rest of you who oppose this ruling, quit it with your pre-civil rights era bigotry.
If gays want to serve our country and go get killed in Iraq, I'm all for it. Just because they have a genetic disorder shouldn't prevent them dying for our country.

Idiot, look at other civilized countries who already allow gays and lesbians to serve openly in their military! They're getting along JUST FINE. Not to mention that millions of soldiers in the US armed forces already know that they are serving with gays and lesbians, and the majority of them have NO problem with it. The US is the only member of NATO which does not allow its gay and lesbian service members to serve openly. Seems to me there should be a bigot test before allowing anyone to serve.
DADT is in place for the same reason that women don't serve on the front line. There can't be romantic relationships while lives are at stake. Two people who are romantically involved can't be impartial when it comes to life and death situations. Next thing you know, openly gay members of the military won't be allowed to serve on the front line.

Gay men and women have the same rights as any one else. Gay men can marry any women and gay women can marry any men. Straight people also have to marry the opposites. Being gay is not the same as being black or femaile. I would not want to share a restroom with a gay man or gay woman,nor would most women want a gay man or woman to share a restroom with them. I don't have a problem with gays serving openly. My problem is that the judges in this country are now making laws from the bench. Activist judges have no place serving on the bench.
