Holder: Feds to enforce drug laws if state legalizes pot

The federal government will continue to enforce federal marijuana laws in California even if the state legalizes pot through a ballot initiative next month, Attorney General Eric Holder said in a letter obtained Friday by CNN.

Holder said the Justice Department would continue to "vigorously enforce" the federal Controlled Substances Act "against those individuals and organizations that possess, manufacture, or distribute marijuana for recreational use, even if such activities are permitted under state law," in a letter to former administrators of the Drug Enforcement Administration.

"Regardless of the passage of this or similar legislation, the Department of Justice will remain firmly committed to enforcing the Controlled Substances ACT ("CSA") in all states," said the letter, dated Wednesday.

California's Proposition 19, which will appear on next month's ballot, would legalize recreational marijuana use in the state. Supporters say it would raise revenue and cut the costs of enforcement.

    I say we start a
Grassroot (pun intended)movement to say we hate the government for telling us how to live, let's call it the tea-party squared(or T2)
Maybe we can get donations from foreign countries to help with this grassroot movement.
I'm sure the supreme court will agree with this funding, since they(the supreme court)have already given permission for those same countries to contribute to the political process here in america!

Let me get this straight, 8 former DEA Admin. wrote letters to Holder........
What about the 800 thousand people that will vote to make it legal? I guess they don't count for nothing. The Gov. doesn't listen and never will. They have there own agenda, the people are not part of it.

No one here seems to grasp the actual problem in Amerika,
Problem: Amerika is now controlled by lawyers
define lawyer: greedy, lying, manipulating person whom normaly comes from a family of judges/district attorney/lawyer politician's.
purpose & intent: make lot's of money, design a system that puts & keeps them in power and controll of laws which make them more money.
reason for this problem: amerikans are brain washed by the system to vote for these lawyers therefore empowering lawyers to have control of the law making process.
Amerika just voted a lawyer to be president, how many congressmen, senators, representatives are lawyers?
Do the math people, figure it out, you are a bunch of sheep getting sheared and passing laws that reduce the lawyer systems income are not appreciated by the lawyer system, legalizing pot means they will lose money.

Just once I wish the Obama admin would act like the "radical" liberal progressives they're so often accused of being. It's like they're forever trying to appease the very folks who would never vote for them anyway. Just do the right thing for a change.

Eric Holder, Obama, the DEA and all you conservatives should be ashamed of yourselves! If California votes on something, its their right to get it. DEA BUTT-OUT its not democracy if you overright the people's vote!
    Peace.

If you legalize and grow weed here that will take big chunks of money out of the cartel's hands. Then by destroying the cocaine and poppy plantations you hurt the cartels finances even more. The organizations would implode because the leaders wouldn't have enough money to pay their henchmen. Then law enforcement could focus on the synthetic drug market and pretty much keep streets clean for the first time. They won't do that though. Our cops are cowboys who like having bad guys to chase.

Override. Ganja.... Stupid pot heads are their own worst enemy. If people who burned chron everyday were intelligent and hard working then pot would already be legal. Then you've got stoners trying to ride the coat tails of cancer patients who actually need the relief pot provides.

I bet half the stoners were happy a "brother" got elected, so their dreams of THC utopia could be realized. Too bad they elected a member of the 2 party monopoly that seeks total domination of their lives.

    Just Say No!
Yeah, like that really worked. The feds in U.S. are as corrupt as the ones in Mexico.
The US supports the Poppy fields in Southeast Asia as well as in Afghanistan.
The US supports the Coca fields in Columbia and Peru.
The US supports the cannabis fields in Mexico.
The feds keep supporting these growers through the DRUG WAR against US citizens.
If pot is legalized in California, or America as whole, then the feds have no way to justify the existence of many of their archaic departments.
Although I do not believe Heroin or Cocaine need to be legalized, I do not believe legalizing Pot would increase the usage of stronger drugs like heroin or cocaine.
The voice of the people should not be squashed under the thumb of derelict, non-effective enforcement of asinine laws.
