Off-duty police officer killed over parking space

An off-duty Baltimore, Maryland, police officer died late Saturday night after being attacked during an argument over a parking space.

He was out celebrating his 38th birthday, police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said.

"One suspect pulled out a blunt object and bludgeoned the officer," Guglielmi said. "Some individuals are in custody being questioned who were found at a nearby nightclub."

The off-duty detective, whose name has not yet been released, was rushed to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.

...the off duty officer should of none better then to argue with an idiot over something as trivial as a parking space....let it b a lesson to cops who think they are untouchable, with great power comes great responsibility

It's "known" not "none". And you talk about the cop thinking he is untouchable and it should be a lesson to other cops. What about the murder who killed him with a blunt object then went to a near by club right after. Sounds like the murder thought he was untouchable and not the cop.

And it's "murderer" not "murder". At least I knew I spelled it wrong.

This is a tragedy, and I'm sure the culprit will go to prison for a long time. However, this is the result of two intoxicated individuals, with too much pride to give up a parking spot. Turning the tables, if the off duty officer would have won the fight, he would have made headlines for assaulting a civilian. The moral of this story is it takes two people to brawl and one of them should have just walked away. It would have saved a life.

the poor person that killed the cop probably didnt mean to. For all we know the cop could have attacked him he grabbed something hit the cop the wrong way and killed him. We cant automaticly assume either party was guilty or innocent.

Does not take a statistician to find that cities such as Baltimore where only criminals can easily carry guns are the most violent. If more good people carried they would be in a better position to start taking our country back from these animals.

Are you kidding me? It was a cop...A COP. He almost definitely had a gun on him. That's the problem with you damn gun nuts. You all think carrying makes you invincible. That getting bashed in the back of the head by some punk in a crowd wouldn't hurt you. Your ignorance is baffling. If a trained, and probably armed, officer isn't able to disarm a guy with a club, then what makes you so qualified? You watched Blade a couple times? moron.

What? That comment is just ignorant. Because he's a cop he's automatically carrying? Read some state laws genius. You aren't allowed to carry, police officer or not, if you are drinking. Being his birthday, I'm guessing he was.

It also doesn't take a statistician to understand the ramifications of Baltimore's "demographics."

Wow roadster, way to hide that you're a closet bigot. I'm impressed, I could barely tell what a generalizing and outright rude comment that was.

This is so tragic. It's a shame that a police officer has to lose his life over a parking space. Whoever did it should be put to death the exact way he killed that police officer.

Tragic, but anyone who has spent any time in Baltimore would know to smile and let the thug have the parking space. Probably some cop talking tough and caught a major beat down. I've been in that situation. You can avoid problems and walk away.

Well said, being an officer of the law, im thinking he should have been able to handle this type situation as if he were on duty. Maybe there are to many missing links to this story thus far.

Off duty cops always try to act tough and push their way around. He was probably being arrogant since it was his birthday too. I guess he finally met his match.

This country is just sad, I just read a story not long ago that in Detroit someone shot someone else in the face over a pair of fake Oakley's worth about $8. The value of human life is dropping just as fast as the currency is, I am a law enforcement officer (not patrol) and it's situations like this that I am getting my concealed weapons permit. I'f I'm going to get killed by some moron for something idiotic then I'm taking him with me.
