Off-duty police officer killed over parking space

An off-duty Baltimore, Maryland, police officer died late Saturday night after being attacked during an argument over a parking space.

He was out celebrating his 38th birthday, police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said.

"One suspect pulled out a blunt object and bludgeoned the officer," Guglielmi said. "Some individuals are in custody being questioned who were found at a nearby nightclub."

The off-duty detective, whose name has not yet been released, was rushed to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.

Without meaning to malign the dead,a cop has no business arguing on a night out with a civilian. I am sure though a thorough investigation would be carried out and his untimely death would be paid for. May his soul find eternal rest. Really tragic.

It's no wonder people kill other people over dumb crap like a parking spot, Prison is not a deterant anymore. Prison's now you get tv's (with free cable access), gaming systems, someone prisons have huge gym's with racket ball, ping pong, pool tables, full on sized weight rooms, chapels, mp3 players. Prison's are a community center for the moronic's who can't play nicely, they can kill someone with a slight chance they could get away with it and win, or come to prison and get literally everything handed to them. Now aday's prisons are so afraid of getting lawsuits filed against them because prisoners are such babies that they just kneel down to them. You almost can't even hold prisoners accountable for breaking the rules inside the prison anymore. Trust me I know

It's a shame anyone had to die over what appears to be a missing match. Of course, a cop whose whole professional life has been spent pushing people around, depriving them of their basic human rights, breaking the very laws he was supposed to enforce, thought he was above the law once again and probably thought he could bully someone else into submission. Oh well. If you dont have enough sense to diffuse a potentially tense situation, you have no business wearing the badge anyway. Violence and bullying are not the way to neutralize a potential confrontation.

I'm guessing a cop gave you a ticket you didn't agree with? Most of the people I know that hate cops, hate them because the cop held them accountable for they're action's. You know what the difference between you an a prisoner is? You just haven't been convicted yet.

"thought he could bully someone else into submission." what makes you think the off duty cop was being the aggressor its pretty clean the murderer was the one trying to be the bully not the cop

Hey Bob Dole why did you move away from Kansas to North Carolina? Which state do you like better? I wish you could get back into the spotlight so I could listen to Norm MacDonald impersonate you again!

There are definitely too many facts missing here to say with any certain how this happened.

I totally agree P. Clark. We don't know enough to make any assumptions here. And for the record, the comment above yours is just absurd. Leah, have a history with the police do we? I agree that SOME officers overstep their bounds, but to say with certainty that this is what this guy was doing, especially now that he has passed away from his injuries, is very disrespectful. Maybe he was trying to save the space for an elderly woman, or a pregnant female?

I agree completely with P. Clark. People are jumping to all sorts of conclusions based off of almost nothing but assumptions. I just hope CNN will give us more information in the near future and that the family of the officer is getting all the support they need.

Eventually, if you play the odds, being an arrogant @ss to the wrong psycho will get you killed. Ask yourself if it's worth it the next time you pull some dickish move - it could get you killed. In America human life is cheap and psychos are a dime a dozen.

This is so sad, but what else happend? Even most thugs wont kill unless provoked, and I must add they probably did not know it was a policeman. Nonetheless still a senseless loss of life.
