Two fatally shot at Tennessee post office, police say

[Updated at 12:02 p.m.] A Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office dispatcher tells CNN that two women, both postal workers, were killed in the Henning shooting.

[Updated at 11:30 a.m.] Two people were killed Monday at the post office in Henning, Tennessee, the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office said.

Local and state police are on the scene with the FBI.

The sheriff's office would not confirm there was a shooting, but CNN affiliate WMC-TV in Memphis reported two female victims were killed in a shooting that was reported to police about 9 a.m.

Henning is located about 50 miles northeast of Memphis.

Remember the 2nd Amendment doesn't say "adults" it says "the people". Thus we should sue our school districts because they won't let our children exercise their 2nd Amendment rights! It doesn't say citizens either! Guns for illegal aliens!

No it says "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed". If you aren't the modern equivalent – the national guard – then you have no right to own a gun.

Oh my goodness, gun bannning, gun control, gun anything has nothing to do with the topic at hand. Oh yeah, guns were used in the commitment of this felony, but the important issue here is the loss of two precious lives. Rest in peace . . . thoughts and prayers to the family and loved ones of these two women. And also to their fellow employees who will have to deal with this on a daily basis as they come to work every day and do their jobs. To all those posting such "negative" thoughts, please consider this . . . your loved ones are alive and well and you will see them tonight. Be grateful and thankful for that. Life is WAY TOO SHORT to malign others misfortunes through no fault of their own save showing up to do their job.

The shooter must've gotten tired of standing in line for 52 minutes while one window was open.

And then the worker at the open window had to go on lunch in the middle of the transaction, so the customer had to go to the back of the line.

I will agree somewhat that people kill people, not guns. But, I think guns make killing someone too easy. If you remove guns, then yes, people will still find something else to replace them to kill people, like knives, bats, etc. But, killing someone by hand with a knife or brick or whatever is much more personal and difficult to do. Plus, it cannot be done from a distance. I think if we removed guns...all guns, we would see a reduction in killings. The key would be removing all guns, so that criminals would not have access to them.

Didn't the killer realize that post offices are "gun free zones" under penalty of federal law?
I guess killers don't really care about rules and regulations.
Even off-duty cops or citizens with a state-issued pistol carry permit can't take a gun to a federal facility.
So much for the idea that gun control keeps people safe.

    • You dumb dummies!

Do you understand 2 women died: somebody's mother, somebody's wife employed to service the community...this could happen to anyone who has contact with the public. What about the perky, ponytail cashier in a grocery store killed for cash? These robbers betrayed trust of these employees serving the community and they betray the trust of the community by not permitting citizens to conduct their day-to-day affairs peacefully and safely! You all should be outraged that love ones are at risk! Express sympathy people!

Not about guns its about people and lack of upbringing, hope, common sense, love and respect, and good jobs that have been sent to other countries. Talking about gun rights is narrow vision of what America faces every day we fail to pull it together.

When you allow every idiot in the country to have a gun then idiots own guns. Why do we have driving tests? Because you have to prove you are capable of driving a car. Otherwise, said idiots will own 3500 lb bumper cars. Guns don't kill people – people owning guns kill people.

Never thought I would agree with someone named George Busch. You are however correct! In almost all states you have to go to some form of school/receive training before you can get a license to cut hair but can receive a gun after only a fairly flimsy background check. Some areas do not even require that!

Why do we always need to conduct instant analysis? Why do the deaths of two people have to serve as planks for political discussion two hours later? Could we at least wait until the families have laid their loved ones to rest? We seem to be a rotating flock of vultures (I do not exempt myself). Our deepest sympathies to these fellow Tennesseans. May God comfort them in every way.
