Yankees avoid elimination in AL Championship Series

The defending World Series champion New York Yankees live to fight another day.

Facing elimination in their American League Championship Series today, they beat the Texas Rangers 7-2 at Yankee Stadium and now trail in the best-of-seven series three games to two.

The Yankees got home runs from Nick Swisher, Robinson Cano and Curtis Granderson, and their ace CC Sabathia picked up the victory despite allowing 11 hits over six innings.

The series returns to Texas for game 6 on Friday night and game 7, if necessary, on Saturday night. Both games will be televised on TBS.

The Rangers need one more win to get to the first World Series in the team's 38-year history in Texas, and history is on their side.

Only 10 teams have lost a best-of-seven series after winning three of the first four games.

Why do you call it "world series" btw- its should be called "American Series" 🙂 started following Yankee games the last few months and really enjoyed doing so- Baseball is indeed a team game with a lot of scope for variation– I am a big cricket fan btw

Life long Yankees Fan (Saw Roger and Mickey) play in the first indoor baseball game in history at the Astrodome. Mantle slapped Turk Farrell's second pitch past Joe Morgan into center field . I was hooked long before that moment when my daddy took my brother and I to a game at Yankee Stadium in the late 50's. Been a Cowboys fan since the Oilers scooted out of town. Born Texan, will die a Yankees Fan.

I really hope that the Rangers can pull it out in Game 6. I have always been a Yankee hater but just the booing of A.J. Burnett in game 4 has really put it over the top for me about wanting the Yankees to lose. How the hell can you boo your team that just won the world series last season? Seriously? The Yankees have a very good team, but again I don’t think their pitching is enough so hopefully we can see a Rangers-Phillies final so at least there is one interesting team.

Obviously Chris you don't understand what it is to be a Yankees fan. We expect our team to win it all every year. Anything less is unacceptable. Games are played to be won. Anyone that tells you they're "just happy with the way their team approached the game" after a loss .... deserves NOT to have 28 World Series trophies! As for booing AJ .... that had more to do with the way he pitched this year, given his oversized contract, then it did with the way he pitched in Tuesday's game.

Chris, Mike is right, if you spend more than the GNP of a small country on your payroll, a loss is unacceptable.

GO RANGERS!!!!! It's TEXAS time! I'd root for anyone over the Yanks, like it's really hard to be the best in MLB year after year when each player gets BOUGHT OUT. "All MLB players relish the opportunity to wear the pinstripes" Umm no, they relish the opportunity to make 100 mil in one season! Let's speak the truth!
Let's go Rangers clap clap clap clap clap!!!!!!!

you are an idiot. we have the money to pay because we make the money to pay. if we did not have to give proceeds to the small and mid market teams that don't make money we would have more. You want a salary cap, I am fine with that. We will have more money because we will not have to share it with others. There are 3 to 4 profitable teams in licensing and business that keep teams like the rangers (who filed bankruptcy, still owe mickey tettleton money which is funny as hell, also owe arod and tex 37 million combined, and had to borrow money from mlb to make payroll). You just proved you know nothing about baseball.

People who say they hate the Yankees always seem to say we buy the team. Hello!!!!! Look at the Cowboys new stadium and how much money is spent there and they can't win. Winning championships is about the heart!!. How can anyone not want to cheer for men like Derek Jeter. He brings class to a game that has been beaten up by steroid abuse etc.and is an ideal role model for kids. Most of all he is a winner because he loves the game and plays with passion. May the best team win !
