Ozzy Osbourne on genome testing, Neanderthal lineage

In July, rocker Ozzy Osbourne became one of few to submit his blood to have his full genome sequenced and analyzed.

The results are in, and it turns out his genome reveals some Neanderthal lineage, according to Scientific American.

Osbourne and his wife, Sharon, are expected to discuss the testing and its results Friday at the TEDMED 2010 scientific conference in San Diego, California.

In a Sunday Times of London column (registration required), the former Black Sabbath front man said he was reluctant to submitting to the test at first. He eventually gave in to his curiosity over how he had managed to survive years of hard living and substance abuse.

"Given the swimming pools of booze I've guzzled over the years—not to mention all of the cocaine, morphine, sleeping pills, cough syrup, LSD, Rohypnol... there's really no plausible medical reason why I should still be alive," he wrote.

"Maybe my DNA could say why."

Besides, Ozzy just rocks. His solo stuff has a touch of pop sensibility to it in contrast to the ground breaking stuff from Sabbath's early years, but it's still great heavy metal, and he worked hard for the success he's had like any street kid from Birmingham- and partied as hard as any street kid from Birmingham would too.

I wonder if Neanderthal cooked animals before biting their heads off? I'm willing to bet I could understand the grunting of a neanderthal more than I could understand Ozzy.

I can unequivocally assure all of you that the Neanderthal shown above could easily pass for the gentleman that mowed my lawn this morning. His name is Jesus de Labaca. I would ask him if he's related to the more famous Jesus but why mix in additional bedevilment to the aready befuddled creationists? That would be mean.

Im just happy to know that all of this is the silly imaginings of men and that in reality we all come from a loving Heavenly Father and not from a microscopic organism or from apes or whatever. It is only man's attempt to deny their creator that leads them to make people believe in cavemen in the first place.

    • OZZY!!

have you left the church in the fifty years? There is far less proof that a "Heavenly Father" exsists/ed then the scientific study of humans evolving from some type "caveman". Just because a single book says that there is a superior being(per religion) doesn't mean it is the truth. If we followed that logic then two or three thousands years from now then everyone will be thinking that Harry Potter or the Lord of the Rings actually are real. The bible is an interesting read from Two Thousand years ago but so was "I AM OZZY" but at least ninety percent of Ozzies book was what actually happening in his life!!

Truly we are doomed if, in any way, this spirited banter and exchange actually represents and accurate sampling of our collective median level of intelligence and reason.. Neanderthals indeed.. Ozzy said it best in "Revelation Mother Earth" off of Blizzard of Oz..
