Tropical Storm Tomas is near hurricane strength as it passes near the island of Barbados in the West Indies and heads toward the northern Windward Islands on Saturday, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Tomas just missed Trinidad. It turned north headed to Barbados. We still have dark clouds. Saturday 7.15am.
God is a 'Trini' so the storm had no choice but to swing north and for that we are eternally grateful!
Ian, I'm in Barbados and we bajans say God is a Bajan However He is neither Bajan nor Trini nor lucian nor vinci. To say that the storm had no choice but to turn north and in effect devastate the rest of us is a truly insensitive statement. What I experienced the last few days was horrible and I am thanking God that no lives were lost. St Vincent and St Lucia were much more devastated than we were here in Barbados and I am hoping that you were saying prayers for us in Bim as well as for them.
