Kentucky teen crowned Miss World

Alexandria Mills waves after her win.

An American teenager is now Miss World 2010. Alexandria Mills, 18, is from Louisville, Kentucky. She won the international pageant Saturday in Sanya, China.

"It's a cliche but this really is a dream come true," she said, crying. "I can't believe it's happening ot me. My time has come. I'm loving it!"

Mills beat out 115 other young women in the 60th annual competition. As the final duty in her reign, Miss World 2009 Kaiane Aldorino of Gibraltar removed the multi-colored crown from her head and gently placed it on Mills. The first runner-up was from Botswana, the second runner-up was from Venezuela.

I am not a white girl but I have no inhibition in saying how pretty this girl is! You probably like the looks of an unhealthy 500 pounder. Hers is clean beauty, not seductive and complicated person look. Miss World contestants need to have some brains too and that's another reason why she is there.

Definitely a beauty, and I'm sure has a beautiful heart, however, not seeing her as #1 worldwide. Sorry.

its not just beuty that counts in these peagents. Its the whole package. They get marks for Interview skills, stage presence, ability to answer those notorious trick questions, and lots of other skills.

That's the prettiest we have to offer? Since beauty contests are based on shallow outer features, you'd think they would choose a beautiful person instead of an average girl.

@ME – I have been through the pagaenting processes. It's a whole lot more that putting on a pretty face and walking about onstage. You should take a look at the things the Miss USA pageant women have to prepare for before you open your yap. It all gets even harder when you get to Miss Universe and Miss World.

Hey CNN, you should spell it 'cliché', not 'cliche'. That way, it is obvious how it is to be pronounced!

I can't believe these posts... Seriously, you're judging this beautiful young woman – who should be proud and happy right now – and everyone is insulting her beauty, rating her by number??? Such a sad, awful, mean thing to do. Why are you judging and being angry – imagine your daughter/friend/girlfriend/sister working hard and winning this and seeing these horrible judgemental posts...
Alexandria – you should be very proud of your accomplishment. You are obviously a beautiful, bright young woman who worked hard to reach her goal and I wish you all the best in everything you do.
And to everyone else, try supporting and encouraging the young women you know and maybe this world would be a better place...

yea you are right that is horrible!! This girl definitely should be proud and her parents too! how would you like it if one of you guys won something and i said " nah they suck they are dumb stupid they didn't deserve it." etc you guys should be ashamed of yourselves!!

Your post makes no sense. She's in a beauty contest the object of which is to quantify, compare and rate her beauty. It is the absolute perfect and if I give your thoughts any credence at all, only place where it's not only acceptable but expected. If someone doesn't want their looks compared and rated then one should not be in a beauty pageant. So enough with you people telling us to stop talking about how plain she is. That's the whole point of it all.

Someone needs to explain to me how an 18 yr. old girl can be the most beautiful woman in the world. This contest has no credibility at all. Bunch of pedo's.

18 is old enough to consider her a woman. in some cultures, coming of age happens much earlier.

You're about as far off as you can get...but that's expected. We are talking about the MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMAN IN THE WORLD right? Maybe she would make a better high school prom queen.

Dunno, but I think she looks noraml. But in comparisson to the other ladies who look old, and simply stretched faces and noticeble wrinkles, she does look young. Maybe that's why she won. I would've chosen her over Miss Norway. You can call others pedos, but I'm female and straight!
Cultural factors, exposure to society, etc, are factored in you know.

But Congrats to Miss Kentucky girl!

I agree. Beauty is only skin deep. I'm not really against pageants as long as the criteria by which contestants are judged involve more than just beauty. As long as the winner is a good public speaker and represents and promotes good values, then I'd be happy to have someone beautiful trying to get positive messages out. People with good public images (and that includes looks) are more likely to be influential anyway. And I don't understand people who are picking on her looks. The name of the pageant is Miss World, not Miss Hottest Girl in the Universe.

It may be more than looks, but LOOKS do count. She's one of the plainest contestants I've seen. She just probably doesn't have on as much make up as most of them wear. Who knows what they look like under makeup.
